Hey guys! I was recently (ie. 2 minutes ago) lurking in the X Wing forum, and saw a post that looked very interesting. In short, players selected a box that contained certain expansions, and were forced to make a squad consisting of only those expansions.

I am proposing a side event while this current tourney is going on, to happen after the cut, to be open to all players. Lists will be 200 points, but ships/squads will be random. You only have control over your faction.

For example, say Lyraeus chose his faction as rebels. I would post a number of rebel expansions, from which he, and only he, would need to build a valid 200 point list from.

I'm looking for at least 10 participants. I will not be participating. All expansions through wave 4 and any campaign squads/ objectives spoiled by August 10 will be legal, provided that they are in Vassal.

Could be fun, but I feel like the pool of product is limited enough that getting a real diverse list of randomly chosen product pools is going to be a little tough. Hardest part of this tournament would be building the upgrade cards. For instance if you drew rebels and didn't get an MC-30, to survive without any TRC's.

Thats the whole point though, so we are forced to try new combinations.

Nobody is saying this idea is fair, but should be fun.

3x3 table? What objectives? These 200pt games always seem to come with special objectives.

Yes, 3x3. For now, it will be standard objectives, but most likely for the ones that award points, point values will be halved. So contested outpost becomes 10 points instead of 20.

What if say, my box was only three Imperial Raiders? That wouldn't be close to the 200 points. So, you'd have to put at least a token effort into making sure the ships add up well together, and at that point, isn't it fairly close to you making lists for people to duke it out with?

Or, do you select say 4 random different expansions and they can use as many or as few of those 4 as they'd like?

I'll be throwing out randomizations that won't meet the 200 point mark. There may be a chance that it won't meet 200 in any configuration, in which case you'll receive a new randomization.

RULES!! (Because I totally didn't forget)

Standard list building rules apply (must have commander, flagship, etc).

Lists will be 200 points.

Any objectives which award points will have their point totals halved (rounded down).

All randomizations will include at least one cross-faction ship for access to upgrades.

Any randomizations which can not reach 200 points in any configuration will be thrown out and a new randomization will be given.

Games will be played on a 3x3 playing field.

It will be a three round Swiss using the new tourney regs.

Notes:

Some randomizations will include large amounts of squads and low ships, an even mix, or all ships. You MUST use your given randomization unless it is impossible to build to 200 points. I will do my best to weed out any that are obviously not able to make 200 points. Bids for initiative are allowed and encouraged if you so choose.

How are commanders chosen? Are we only allowed those in the packs we get?

Only use the cards in your expansions, so yes, onlybcommanders in your expansion.

I'd rather do a 200 with a more "standard" set of builds/rules. Kinda was planning on running it after the current vassal tournament is done. :-/

Crazy thought, run multiple vassal tourneys at once! Weve got too many people in the current one, a few smaller onces at once might not be a bad idea.

We need a vassal sub forum....
