Info from the GenCon demo

By Aahzmandius_Karrde, in Star Wars: Destiny

Enjoyed the video, the game looks great fun. Things that your opponent does affects your turn and you have to play on the fly.

Overall the game looked like on of those "Simple to play and hard to master."

there is an additional place for a second Fin dice in the Rey starter .

Why would they put an additional unique in the starter deck?

I may buy a second Rey set to get the second Finn die, could benefit from a second card of some singles too. I also think getting a second Kylo deck might be an idea for a second stormtrooper and second's of singles. You could play Rey 2 die and Finn 2 die versus kylo 2 die and 2 stormstroopers, that's 28 points vs 27 points, and 2 30 card decks.

Because you can have one or two dice for him. Depending on how many points you spend.

Yeah if you got a friend and both are happy with just picking one side it makes a lot of sense to buy 2 of the same starter.

Rey wastes 2 dice and 5 cards while Kylo wastes up to 2/4 dice and 5/7 cards (depending on how the distribution of Mindprobe and Force Throw is)

If anyone else can fill the blanks

Rey deck: Unpredictable

Kylo deck: Aim, Dodge.

The thing that bugs me about the dice distribution is that you hqve no chance of pulling Finn in the boosters. In most CCGs, you may have only 1 or 2 cards of a given name in the starter deck, but you can get those extra copies through booster packs or by buying the starter again. In the LCG, you have to buy multiple core sets, but I always felt that this was a fair trade for not being random. In Destiny, we're getting hit with both random distribution and short-changed fixed distribution at the same time. I suppose it's fine if you aren't going to run Finn, but for me, Finn was the whole reason I wanted the Hero deck. Wish I didn't need two copies of the starter.

You can see the cards that guys drew in the video:

Rey deck: Unpredictable

Kylo deck: Aim, Dodge.

Cool thanks mate.

Do you know about the distribution of Mindprobe/Force Throw in Kylo's deck? Is it one of each or 2 Mind Probes?

Btw can you tell me where in the video you could see Aim in Kylo's deck and Unpredictable in Rey's deck? I was able to spot Dodge and the extra PotDS and Awakening myself.

You buy two starters and got 2x Finn. Where is the problem?

The real problem is when you buy some booster and get e.g. Jedi robes. Now nobody wants that card, because almost everyone have it, you just spent money for nothing. The same for staff, BB-8, grenades and FO stormtrooper and TIE. That's nonsense.

Do you know about the distribution of Mindprobe/Force Throw in Kylo's deck? Is it one of each or 2 Mind Probes?

No, I just watched video with a lot of pause :)

At first I also thought there is another copy of PotDS, but that's probably because of SalvageYard Starship Graveyard ability. Not sure, I don't want to watch it once again. :)

Starship Graveyard is not in play. They use Frozen Wastes.

Yeah i watch the video with 0.25 speed and a lot of pause my self. Could see all but 1 card on the hero side myself. Only missing Unpredictable.

Villain side is much tougher because he did not draw all the cards i think.

They use Frozen Wastes.

Unpredictable 30:39. Title is not clear, but it's the only matching option.

They use Frozen Wastes.

Right! Silly me. In that case Kylo deck has 2x PotDS.

Unpredictable 30:39. Title is not clear, but it's the only matching option.

How could i miss that. Was right infront of me ^^ Must have confused it with Draw Attention.

Ok found Aim in the Kylo deck at 36:26

We've already seen two promos 3 months before the game drops. It's certainly possible we get a Finn promo (either with a die, or JUST the die) when the game launches.

Thanks again to Darksbane for posting the rules. Here they are in text:

Dice and Card Game

In Star Wars: Destiny , you and your opponent take control of your favorite Star Wars characters and battle each other for the fate of the galaxy. During the game, characters use lightsabers, blasters, and more in the form of dice. These powerful heroes and villains fight until only one team is left standing.

This rulesheet will teach you how to play the game. You can also find a tutorial video and an exampleof play at FantasyFlightGames .com/SWDestiny

Setup

Each player brings their own deck to the game. This starter set includes one deck that should be played against another starter. Both you and your opponent follow these steps to set up the game.

  1. find your character cards and place them in front of you, alon with their dice. When using this starter, your characters are Kylo Ren and First Order Stormtrooper and you have 2 Kylo dice and 1 Stormtrooper die. (If your opponent has the Rey starter set, they will use Rey with 2 dice and Finn with 1 die). Set aside the rest of your dice for later.
  2. Set your battlefield card (the Frozen Wastes) and your reference card aside faceup. Then shuffle your remaining 20 cards to form your deck. Draw 5 cards from your deck to form your hand. If you do not like any of these cards, you may shuffle any number of them back into your deck, and then redraw until you have 5 cards in hand.
  3. Sort the various game tokens (damage, shields, and resourses) into piles near the play area. Then gain 2 resources and place them in front of you.
  4. Roll your character dice and add up the values (the white numbers) rolled. If there is a tie, roll again. The player with the hiest total chooses which battlefield to fight on. The player whose battlefield is being used controls the battlefield and places it next to their deck. the player whose battlefield is not being used removes their battlefield from the game and gives 2 shields to their characters , distributed as they wish. After rolling, place all character dice on their matching cards.
Important! Ready and Exausted

Cards can be either ready (upright) or exausted (sideways). Whenever a card is played, it begins ready. When an ability or rule requires you to exaust a card, turn ir sideways. A exausted card cannot be exausted again.

Gameplay

In Star Wars: Destin , you and your opponent alternate taking turns. The player who controls the battlefield takes the first turn. During your turn, you may take one action . Almost everything you can do in the game is an action, from playing cards to rolling dice.

The differnt actions are listed below and described in detail later.

  • Play a card from you hand
  • Activate a character or support
  • Resolve your dice
  • Discard a card to reroll your dice
  • Use a card action
  • Claim the battlefield

If you do not want to take an action, you may pass. When both players pass consecutively, there is an upkeep phase to prepare for the next game round.

Important! Colors and Spotting

Each card belong to one of four colors, as seen on the card.

  • Blue: Blue represents the Force.
  • Red: Red represents Command.
  • Yellow: Yellow represents Rogue.
  • Gray: Gray represents everything else.

To use some cards, you must spot a character of a specific color. This means that you must have at least one of those characters in play.

Important! Resources & Costs

You must spend resources equal to the cost of a card in order to play it. The cost is marked at the top left of each card. You gain two resourses each upkeep phase and can gain additional resources by rolling the resource symbol on your dice.

Actions Play a Card From Your Hand

There are three types of cards you can play: events, upgrades, and supports. The card type is listed above the card's ability. To play a card, spend resources equal to its cost.

  • Playing an Event : Follow the card's instructions and the discard it to your discard pile. The discard pile is a faceup pile near your deck where you place your discarded cards.
  • Playing an upgrade : Attach the card to one of your characters be placing it below that character. Upgrades have repeatable effects and stay in play. Most upgrades come with an extra die, and, like characters, have the six sides of their die referenced on the left side of the card. When you play an upgrade that has a die, take the matching die from your set aside dice and place it on the character.

A character cannot have more than three upgrades . When you play an upgrade, you can choose to replace an upgrade that is already attached to that character. To do so, you only spend resources equal to the difference in cost between the two upgrades. Discard the upgrade you are replacing.

  • Playing a Support : Place the card on the table in front of you, next to your characters (but not attached to them). Supports have repeatable effects and stay in play. Some supports also have a die that comes with them; take the matching die and place it on that card.
Activate a Character or Support

Activating a character or support is how you roll its dice. To activate a character or support, it must be ready. Exaust that card and roll all of its dice. Put these dice in front of your characters. These dice are now in your dice pool and can be used on a future turn (see "Resolve our Dice" below). Characters always roll their character dice and thir upgrade dice when activated. Supports only roll their own dice into the dice pool when activated.

Resolve Your Dice

This action if how you use the dice in your dice pool. You may resolve any number of dice in your pool that have the same symbol , one at a time. After you resolve a die, it returns to the card that it came from.

Example: You tolled dice showing melee damage and range damage. For your next action you can resolve any number of the dice showing melee damage or any number of the dice showing ranged damage, but not both. Each differnt symbol represents its own action.

Each die symbol has a differnt effect. These effects are described blow. The side of the die usually has a value (the shite number) above its symbol that tells you how powerful it is. For example, 2 [MD] means you can deal 2 damage to a character, and 2 means you can give a character 2 shields.

Die Symbols
  • [MD] Melee Damage : Deal that much damage to any character.
  • [RD] Ranged Damage : Deal that much damage to any character.
  • Shield : Give any character that many shields (place shield tokens on it). A character connot have more than 3 shields .
  • [R] Resource : Gain that many resources.
  • [Dr] Disrupt : Your opponent loses that many resources.
  • [Dc] Discard : Discard that many random cards from your opponent's hand.
  • [F] Focus : Turn that many other dice in your pool to the side(s) of your choice.
  • [sp] Special : Trigger the special ability marked by a [sp] on that die's card. Specials never have a value.
  • [-] Blank : No effect. Blanks never have a value.
Modifiers and Resource Costs

Some dice hace one or more blue sides with a plus (+) before the value. Sides with a plus can only be resolved at the same time as another die in your pool that shows the same symbol without a plus. While resolving, the plus value is added to the other die to create a new value.

Example you roll a +2[RD] symbol. You also roll a 1[RD] , so you can resolve the +2[RD] along with the 1[RD] for 3 ranged damage dealt to any on character. If you had not rolles the 1[RD] you could not have resolved the +2[RD] die.

Some die sides have a small resource icon [R] in a yellow box. To resolve the symbol on that side, you must first pay that many resources.

Example: You roll a 3[MD] symbol that also has a small 1[R] at the bottom. In order to deal 3 damage, you must spend 1 resource.

Damage, Shields, and Defeated Characters

Damage from a die, or a die resolved with modifies, must be dealt to a single character. When a character is dealt damage, track that damage using damage tokens. (Damage tokens come in quantities of 1s and 3s.) If the character has any shields, block 1 damage for each shield on the character. After a shiled blocks damage, remove the shield token from the character.

When a character has damage on it equal to its health, it is defeated . Remove all of its dice from the game (both its character dice and its upgrades), discard all upgrades attached to it, and remove the character card from the game. The character can no longer be activated, be the target of effects, or be spotted to play cards.

Discard a Card to Reroll Your Dice

Discard a card of your choice from your hand to reroll one or more dice in your pool. You must choose all the dice you want to reroll before rerolling.

Use a Card Action

Some support, upgrade, and character cards have special actions listed on them. These actions are preceded bt the word " Action " in bold. To resolve this action, follow the card's instructions.

Claim the Battlefield

Only one player can claim the battlefield each round. When you claim the battlefield, you may immediately use its " Claim " ability. If you did not control it, take control of it be moving it next to your deck.

For the rest of this roud, you automatically pass all of your future actions. Your opponent continues taking actions until they pass, but they cannot claim the battlefield this round.

Important! Passing

If you do not want to take an action, you may pass. You do nothing, but retain the option to take an action after your opponent. After both players pass consecutively, procees to the upkeep phase.

Game Terms

There are a few important game terms that appear on cards. After reading this section, you'll be ready to play your first game! You can find more game terms and frewquently asked questions in the rules reference document on our website.

  • After... Use these abilities after something finishes occuring.
  • Before... Use these abilities immediately before something occurs.
  • Unblockable. Whenever damage is "unblockable" if cannot be blocked by shields (and thus does not remove any shields).
  • Unique. Unique cards have an asterisk (*) next to their title. You cannot have more than one copy of a unique card in play at a time.
  • Remove. When a die is removed, it is returned to tha character or support card it came from without being resolved. You can only remove dice that are in a player's dice pool.
Keywords

Keywords are shorthand for abilities that appear on multiple cards. Follow these rules when using those cards.

  • Guardian. Before one of your characters with Guardian activates, you may beal it damage equal to the value of a die showing damage ([MD] or {RD] in your opponent's pool. The remove that die showing the damage.
  • Redeploy. This keyword only appears on upgrades. After the attached character is defeated, you may immediately move this upgrade to any of your other charactes. The upgrade die moves to the new character card, even if it was in your dice pool.
  • Ambush. After playing a card with Ambush, you may immediately take one additional action.
Subtypes

Some cards have subtypes listed above the card;s ability, such as "Vehicle" or "Weapon." Subtypes have no inherent rules associated with them, but other cards (such as Finn) may reference them.

Customization

Although this starter deck provides a fun experiance, the game becomes more exiciting if you customize your deck using other cards and dice (sold seperately). Customizing alows you to choose your favorite charactes, upgrades, events, supports, and battlefield. Then you can test this combination of dice and cards against an opponent!

When customizing, each player needs a team of characters, a 30-card deck, 1 battlefield, and all dice corresponding to the chosen cards.

Building Your Team

You can choose up to 30 points of characters for your team. A character's point value is in the lower left corner of the card. To the right of this number is a box that reads "Hero" or "Villain." You must select either all hero characters or all villain charactersl you cannot mix the two.

You can have characters of the same color or differnt colors on your team.

You can select only one copy of each unique (*) character, but any number of copies of non-unique characters. Non-unique characters always use one die. Unique characters have two different point calues, seperated by a backslash (/). You may choose either the smaller point value to use one of that character's dice, or the larger value to use two of that character's dice.

Building Your Deck

the starter deck in this box has 20 cards, but a standard deck is exactly 30 cards. You can choose any cards to place in your deck with the following restrictings:

  • You cannot include more than two copies of the same card.
  • Each card is hero, villain, or neutral, as shown on the bottom of the cars. If you selected hero characters, you cannot have villain cards in your deck, and vice versa. Neutral cards can be included in any deck.
  • Blue, REd, and Yellow cards can only be included if you havw a character on your team of the matching color. Gray cards can be included in any deck.
  • You deck can contain events, upgrades, and support cards. Character cards and battlefields cannot be placed in your deck and do not count toward your 30 card limit.
Selecting a Battlefield

In addition to characters and a deck, you select 1 battlefield. Each player brings a battlefield to the game, and one of the players' battlefields will be used for each game.

Looking at the rules and demo, this is starting to look like an amazing game.

I'm also pretty sure to be among the first buyers but FFg doesn't seem to have us having a quite summer with the announcement of Rune Wars : the miniatures game that looks also interesting... oh and not to forget the forthcoming Chtuluh coop lcg... well... : "Wallet, it was nice to know you but today I have to give you away to kind peoples who will make me happy by trading me beautiful boxes (nearly) full of (supposed) good stuff in exchange of you and all your content... see ya, baby !" :P

What I saw was him drawing 5 cards on each of the first 4 turns, and he drew one last card on turn 5. That comes to 21 cards drawn. It is not a criticism, but it would mean there is an additional place for a second Fin dice in the Rey starter . I don't mind a mistake being made, and I admit I may have miscounted the draw, but if we allow for this mistake, it clears up some of the confusion we have seen trying to figure out if we need to buy a second starter.

It does not matter if the die is a Finn die or a F-11D. We are missing 2 dice anyway.

In your example we are missing a F-11D and either Mindprobe or Force Throw.

In mine we are missing Finn and either Mindprobe or Force Throw.

But i would argue it would make a lot of sense to have the F-11D in the rey starter to showcase Finn's ability. And we can use all 9 dice in the starter game instead of having one team with 9 and the other with 8.

It should be noted I was wrong. He kept one card in his hand at the end of round 3.

I've updated my spreadsheet with cards posted by TeamCovenant:

Please share any things you find here.

Rey's Staff is clearly visible at 2:30.

Yeah i watch the video with 0.25 speed and a lot of pause my self.

Just download the full video at max resolution (plenty of free webtools to do that, I use clipconverter.cc) and use a video player of your choice. Much, much more efficient, with plenty of things you cannot do on YT website, like go back one frame etc.

14:02 let the wookie win, missing info on the spreadsheet.

Also i noticed that you've been doing partial info on some of them, I noticed if you look close at the teaser video you can see some more of poe dice as well as the speeders dice as it rolls. in case you want to add them

Everything but the cost, sigh.

Cost is 2R via Team Covenant FB page

The 30 card deck and 2 copies of each stuff in this vame and AH, makes me think they are looking more at HearthStone than at Magic lately.

We see a few glimpses of Poe's die in the game trailer. He is Red, has 3RD/1R, 1 Dr, and Sp.

It would seem that getting both starter sets will net you a playset of all the grey rarity "starter" cards without needing to buy the same box twice - nice if they're in fact cards that are unique to the boxes and not available in boosters. If nothing else, it shows that some thought went into setting up the distribution of cards, which makes me more optimistic on the quality of the Awakenings set as a whole.

With the set list it seems like we might have to buy a starter twice. I fear that there will not be enough Finn dice in the Rey starter.

There are 7 starter rarity cards that come with dice. So that would be 14 dice in total. From TeamCovenent pictures we already know that FO Trooper, Jedi Robes, BB-8 and Infantry grenades are in the starters. Thats 4 more dice so we are at 18.

But from the packeging we know that Kylo comes with a FO TIE.

Suddenly we are at 19 dice but we are only supposed to get 18. Now i have to heck if any dice got a deck limitation of only 1.

Is it me or does BB-8 have a rare symbol, even though it was included in the Rey starter? Along with the First Order TIE Fighter, Immobilize, First Order Stormtrooper, Immobilize, Jedi Robes, Rey's Staff, and I'm sure a couple more maybe? Are rares that I can pull in boosters included in the Starter Decks? Starter decks that by all indications I'll probably be picking up two of each? Making any of these rares useless when I pull them in a booster, and nigh untradable?

I demo'd the game several times at Gencon, and played each of the cards I listed at one point or another.

If so, not good.
