Back from the Dead quest (encounter 1). Did Allies counts as a hero for fatigue tokens?

By Skiffling, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Heroes condition for winning this encounter is: "If there are ever fatigues tokens in the heroes' play area equal to number of heroes - heroes win"

My question is - Ally count as a hero for this requirement too? If we have 4 heroes + 1 ally in play, do heroes need 4 or they need 5 fatigue tokens to win?

I'm pretty sure that the number of heroes is always the number of players, just as you adjust the monster group limit depending on the number of heroes. I think it is worded like that because one player can play multiple heroes.

The ally only counts as a hero, meaning all the OL cards and moster actions which target heroes can target the ally as well.

Thank you, that's sounds logical . May be you can help me with (encounter 2) too? Overgrowth. There is some triggers when heroes move through it. They need test attributes, and if fails there is bonuses for overlord winning . Ally test it too or only heroes?

No

I don't have my rulebook at hand, but I would guess that the answer is yes. According to Zaltyre's glossary:

"Ally2: Allies are special figures the hero control during certain quests. Allies may perform two actions during their

activation, which takes place before or after any hero turn. Notably, an Ally’s turn does not occur during any player’s

turn.

»An ally is treated as a hero figure.

»Allies may perform Attack, Move, Open/Close Door, Revive actions, or Special actions (including Ally

actions or quest special actions referencing allies.) They are subject to the same 1 attack per activation limit as

monsters."

This means that the ally is threated as a hero (and must hence pass any attribute test just as a hero), but he is not a hero in the sense that he would add to the number of players or heroes. This number is after all used for scaling (monster limit, number of tokens one side has to collect, etc.).

Chaoticus,

While what you stated is correct, the relevant section is later, when talking about figures treated as heroes (the term "hero"). It's all about context. If a hero or monster ability, an attack, or an overlord card targeting a hero says "hero", it means "heroes, allies, familiars treated as figures, villager tokens treated as heroes...etc). If quest rules, plot cards, travel cards, or anything else says, "hero", it only means the 2-4 heroes of the main party.

So, in the special rules, it says "if a hero move through" and it only means the actual main heroes. Familiars like the reanimate or wolf, or allies are exempt from those rules.

Ah, that was new to me. Since the ally has stats as well, I thought it makes sense to require the skill test as well.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you everyone for replies.

By the way, what about Hulldyr? He is token right?

1. No LoS blocking?

2. Players can stand on it?

3. He spends 2 mp to enter space with water?
