I am in the top 10 so if I scored 8-9 points I could in theory make it into the top 7 without needing the 8th slot

No, I want to see you score 507....(this would ultimately mean you'd also most likely have a 10-0, I just think scoring 507 would be epic. :-)

Onca v. CaribbeanNinja set for this Sunday at 9:30 AM GMT.

Doobleg vs Maturin

Doobleg wins 10-0, mov 356 (432 to 76)

The mission was Precision Strike, and Doobleg was first player.

An awesome game against a great player, this was as fun as it promised to be. Full write-up tomorrow, but for now I'd like to thank Maturin for such a great match. :D

---------

Even on points, I won the roll-off and chose first player (Maturin would've taken second player had he won, so this worked out for everyone). I chose Precision Strike as the lesser of three evils.

We were tied on deployment drops, and with most of the rocks surrounding the station in the middle of the map, we set up mostly opposite each other to the left and centre, with me approaching from the top. I fanned my three corvettes out to give myself options and side-arc coverage, sending Jaina's Light right and Ackbar's Trumpet wide left, while my battle cruiser (Endeavour) came in slow and straight with my fighters. Maturin sent his own fighters forward screened by the station, with his assault frigate (Gallant Haven) charging forward on the left and Yavaris slowly creeping up the middle, Bright Hope bringing up the rear. Maturin's corvette (Tanive IV) went right to head off Jaina's Light, and my last corvette, Mothma's Floom, stayed close to Endeavour.

Round 2, and things got real bloody real quick. Ackbar's Trumpet fired three reds into Gallant Haven's flank at long range. The assault frigate, in response, ordered his squadrons into the fray, savaging my YT-2400s and A-Wings. Speed three meant his maneuvering options were limited, so Gallant collided with Mothma's Floom, but still found himself within front arc and medium range of Endeavour, which unleashed two attacks that devastated the frigate. A double-arc shot from Ackbar's Trumpet put Gallant Haven to bed, TRCs on both shots ensuring the kill.

Yavaris wasn't happy, moving forward with Fighter Co-ordination Team to shove Wedge and others into range for a double-tap. My fighters were in trouble, but then Jaina's Light fired at Yavaris' exposed flank. Tantive IV had a side-arc shot at Jaina's, dropping two shields, and then charged forward to threaten Endeavour's flank at close range.

Round 3, and the bloodbath continues in earnest. Endeavour has an obstructed shot at Yavaris' other flank, and manages to drop the Neb to one hull. Rather than use his Concentrate Fire order, he instead saves it for Tantive, firing out the side and stripping two arcs worth of shields and scoring the hull. Maturin prepares Yavaris for action, but then Endeavour uses its stored Nav token to go to speed 3, ramming the Neb-B and taking it down. Tantive and the fighters all take shots at the battle cruiser, stripping shields from the flank and rear, while Bright Hope moves up the left side of the conflict at speed, harried by my other corvettes and taking a single damage to the right shield.Jaina's Light takes a long-range shot at Tantive, forcing the loss of shields and the redirect token, and comes back around to give chase.

This is where we paused last week, and we picked up the action last night.

Round 4, and I start with a CF shot from Mothma's Floom to the rear of Bright Hope. Accuracy means no scatter, and I manage to land a crit. Maturin flips it, and it's the worst possible result: Comm Noise. I slow the ship down to speed 2, and I turn Ackbar's Trumpet to give chase. Meanwhile, Maturin's squadrons mop up the last of my fighters, and finds himself with three solid bomber shots at Jaina's Light. Unfortunately, Bomber Command Centre is having a really, really off day, and two black dice turn up blank (even with re-rolls). Keyan lands two hits to the flank, but really his should have been the icing on the damage cake, rather than the only hit to actually really land.

Confident that Bright Hope can hold it together, Maturin turned him back in towards his fighters, giving him the best chance of keeping his rear out of arc. Tantive IV headed out and around, trying to actually come back towards the conflict. Endeavour, however, was speed three train to nowhere, and took no further part in the battle.

Round 5, and because Ackbar's Trumpet and Jaina's Light had Bright Hope boxed in, Precision Strike really started to pay off for me. I already had five victory tokens, and while the scatter made damaging the transport nearly impossible, I was able to flip his crit back up twice a round. On the first shot, I'd change his order to Concentrate Fire, and on the next shot I'd slow him down again. He wasn't going anywhere fast, and while I wasn't able to damage him, the points were stacking up in my favour. The fighters set themselves up to test a shield-less Jaina's Light in the final round, and Tantive IV came back in to try his luck.

Round 6, and Ackbar's Trumpet sounded first. He had Bright Hope's rear in his cross-hairs, but three reds and a blue with a CF re-roll failed to find the mark. Still, flipping the crit meant another useless CF order for the final turn. The other arc saw a long-range shot at a shield-less Tantive on three hull. Four reds, and I roll two blanks, a crit, and an accuracy - no chance of a kill, but TRC meant I could flip the crit to get another victory token. Bright Hope then activated, using his Squadron token from turn one to launch Wedge at Jaina's Light. Alas, Bomber Command guy failed again, and double blank was a sorry end to Wedge's game.

Jaina's Light had one final shot on Bright Hope - three reds and a blue, with CF order to come. Hits and crits abound, but the scatter is still in play. I add a blue dice, aaaaand ACCURACY!!! Bright Hope and the plucky General Madine go down in a blaze of glory!

And that was that. I ended up scoring ten victory tokens for the game, which bumped the final score up to 10-0. Maturin played a hell of game with his squadrons, totally owning my fighters. The crit scored on Bright Hope may have been the unluckiest result Maturin had in the entire game - without it, those squadrons would have spent the last two rounds turning Jaina's Light into swiss cheese (and really, had BCC been on point, my corvette would've been in a world of hurt).

Thanks again for the game, dude! :D

The Miferr vs ItzSteve battle is complete! Miferr wins 325-34, for a 291 MOV (9-1).

ItzSteve had Mon Karren, Liberty, and Bright Hope, plus Jan, Tycho, and 4 A-wings. I had Avenger, Interdictor, Suppressor, and another Gozanti with Isard aboard, plus Howlrunner, a TIE Advanced, and 4 TIE Interceptors.

I had the initiative bid and chose to go second. ItzSteve picked Advanced Gunnery, a bold pick with Avenger on the board.

It ended up being a brawl in the center of the table, and whoever lost ships first would probably lose the battle. That ended up being ItzSteve, because Avenger pounded Bright Hope first, then was able to take out Liberty before it could do enough damage to my ships. With just Mon Karren left, ItzSteve did a great job to get her out of the battle before she was lost, too.

The squadron battle was interesting with pretty evenly matched squads. He had the first player advantage, but I was able to use slicer tools to even things out, and with some incredible blue dice rolls (things like 5 hits) I was able to whittle his squads down to just Tycho. He took out the Advanced and a couple of Interceptors. The squads for both sides were hovering around the station, which made them all last way longer. :)

A great game, and ItzSteve was a good sport...the battle was pretty much decided by round 4 but he stuck it out and was able to pull MK out of the mess. Looking forward to playing again!

Onca vs Caribbean Ninja

Onca went 2nd, objective: Dangerous territory

Quite an exciting match, the kraken went straight for the interdictor with his squid-ey pals. A final adar boosted tycho killed it, before letting me pew out a vsd on the last turn.

Onca wins 7-3; 274-207; MoV = 67

A great game to Onca. Good luck in the next round!

My TBs were really working and I had the exact positioning I wanted. Adar + Tycho were total MVPs. They polished off my only destroyed ships. Interdictor and a VSD. I'll post a logfile I saved in the middle of turn 1. This game really showcases what flotillas can do to a match. I look forward to the next event! Thanks Doobs so much for putting this one together.

(The points are 274-207 MOV is 67)

FYI Doobleg, GodofCheese and I are having a hard time getting this one scheduled. Time zone issues loom large since we're on opposite sides of the planet. Still trying tho!!! (besides I'm just eager in game in general)

Crap we totally forgot to count the 2 dead A-wings.

Score should be 274-207: 67 MOV

Just wanted to give doobleg a shoutout for a fun fun game. And for organizing of course!

He is a pleasure to play against, and a master of maneuvering. Great write up too.

And yes, BCC was my swear word of the week...

Gowtah (GK) vs. Matt Antilles

He was 1st, we played my PS.

8-2 MoV 201 to Matt.

Tricky matchup - and skilled proponent. He had initiative, 6 activations and 2 TRC30s. Hard to defend against. He also had MM, who really, really soaked a lot of bomber damage. Matt also didn't do a lot of mistakes.

In the end I got some Awings, a flotilla and his TRC90, he got most of may fleet save a bunch of squads and my flagship flotilla (go Dodonna!). I got 0 tokens, he got 6 - what little damage I did I had to keep as damage.

(Nebs are still crap, and should all burn!)

This brings a tear to my eye. Wasnt long ago that The good Doctor, Matt Antilles was a new kid on vassal who didnt know his TRC from APT. And now here he is, making the cut.

So I no-showed for the Ard/Emfrank game yesterday--just totally spaced it. We're going to see if we can get it rescheduled, but if not, I'll concede the game because it was entirely my fault.

Also, super sorry Frank, I feel pretty bad about it. :(

Ahem...

Doobleg July 4th: With all of the known quantities in this tournament in regards to players we expect to do well, I think Matt Antilles is gonna be the proverbial dark horse. ;)

Called it!

Everything is proceeding as you have foreseen.

Yeah, confirmed we're not going to be able to get it rescheduled, so go ahead and post it as a concession from me.

I feel pretty awful as well. Life has a terrible habit of getting in the way of my armada time. I was supposed to play Malucca but my schedule has been a disaster. So I gotta chalk this own up as a concession from me. Maybe Emfrank can get a game in with Malucca before wednesday for that shot at the wild card?

Rekkon defeats thecactusman17 playing Most Wanted, 420:119. Unfortunately we both forgot to log it, because it was pretty interesting. He was first; I chose Interdictor and Devastator as objective ships.

Devastator rushed into the center of my Interdictor phalanx, but we were slow to trade fire with so much of his stuff starting at speed 0. With Interdictor the least attractive target (and Demolisher coming up the opposite side), Devastator started chewing on the two Combat Refits. Critically, he never got any extra dice because I gave up an attack against the ISD in the first exchange (and declined my Intel Officer), preventing the loss of any defense tokens. Motti was then surrounded by Interdictors, most of whom had him double arced, and all those attacks got an extra blue die. After triggering all of never my last game, Ion Cannon Batteries rode to the rescue, stripping at least two Repair tokens (fed by the Gozantis), and dealing extra shield damage. By the end of the second exchange, Devastator was dead by exactly enough damage, though the two Combat Refits were hurting. Demolisher went first and blew one away; the other landed a hull hit and overlapped a Gozanti. Tractor Beams and G8 prevented it from escaping. G8 also prevented a Demolisher Engine Tech to black range on the Interdictor. In the last turn Tarkin gave my remaining ships Concentrate Fire tokens which, with the help of Ion Batteries again, allowed just enough damage for a kill on Demolisher (who would have survived had he not gone for a greedy ram). Gozanti was overlapped to death, leaving just the Vector to flee the field untouched with the Cactus fighter complement. Tarkin for the win (how often do you get to say that?).

Very good game. The point spread does not reveal just how close it was because had Devastator not died, it would have Yamato Cannoned a second Interdictor with 12 dice. At that point the Gozanti and Demolisher survive, though it was probably unlikely for the latter to finish off Interdictor before the end of turn 6. Had that happened, I would have had 305 to his 238.

Devastator continues to have an interesting effect on games. I played this one much more conservatively than I typically do, and probably c\w\should have ended up in range even faster had I not been preoccupied with thoughts of Konstantine's effect, which was of course not present. The massed Interdictor fleet definitely presented some unique challenges to maneuvering into and around it, and I was pleased to see that the damage output of the Combat refit was far more effective that I had initially suspected. That said, had this not been a Most Wanted match there is a strong likelihood that I would have eliminated at least two Interdictors simply by getting an extra activation.

Nice.

I'll give that one to the alcohol.

Maybe Emfrank can get a game in with Malucca before wednesday for that shot at the wild card?

Good idea! I've emailed them both, asking if they'd like the chance. :)

(I've tried setting other players up this round in a similar fashion... not much success so far, tho)

The score for our game was 309 - 108. Good game Green Knight! You kept me on my toes the whole time.

Gink, I think you're numerous beatings on Vassal are what helped shape my Mc30s into the pitbulls they've become :)
