54NCH32 Fleetworks

Okay.........................I will be really impressed when you pull out your SSD I know you have stuffed in your back pocket. :D Thosed ships do lookk awesome.........I still have to start painting on my base . But have my Vigil , and Venator completed, along with a 4th set of rebel fighters. So I think what you have done is awesome.

Cheers dude. Been meaning to ask, hows goes "The Beast"?

So there is base coat of light gray on it, the model took almost 1/2 of a regular spray can to cover. I have the cards finished, now need a base for it, then on to detail painting.............With two kids and school right now I think I will be just turning 90 years old when it is officially done. I usually have to squeeze in 10 minutes here and there while doing laundry etc to get things done, or after 10:00pm here when I "go" to bed for an hour. When I put the three sections together it is about 11 inches square. So it is a big model, but then repair facilities are not small either.

Nice pic of Arrowhead and Trident on the table tonight. Being run as Warlord and Admiral Kon's Vic-II by my mate, against my Rebels.

A poor pick by him (Most wanted with 2 Vics) saw my Ackbar/CR90s/BCC/10 Squad list rip Arrowhead apart for double points on round 5 (IG-88 had just taken out Jan to break Intel in the pic below).

A very squadron led battle, well paced, and really got my Y-wings hitting hard (I love Transport BCC), was great fun.

Very nice! Well done, especially working with the yellow! I like the mercs and very fond of the colored stripes on the TIE hatches. I'll be "borrowing" that idea. Wish I was at home to work mine.

Thanks, I did the hatches on Mauler a while back, but they really stand out in the yellow. Quick and easy too, think it adds a nice touch :)

Well I'm lucky enough to have some time off today (after a very long, stressful work week) so I decided to paint a raider, finally picked a design last night.

Only 2 more to go, argh! Forgot to add some light blue for the bridge window, so about to do that now.

You somehow made the imperial raider look appealing!

Cheers, Yeah, they are a little plain fresh out of the box. Think I may spend this arvo prepping the next two

That raider is very sharp. The yellow and black definitely add to the design.

All the Raiders done, tested a simple tri-insignia one of them, will use this to denote Admiral if on board.

So, I have completed the final victory VSD Reliant . The emblem didn't come out as symmetrical as I'd hoped, but still happy with it, and glad to have all 3 finally done. Just the ISD to go now!

Haven't had a chance to do some decent pics yet, but I decided to run all 3 this evening against my mate, so took a couple of shots while the board was out

Not great light and using my iphone, but here's a couple of shots. Will take some better pics soon.

Thought I'd throw in some Raiders as well:

Well the "beast" is almost done...............and it is a big model..........Oh well a month+ worth of work will make it worth it. I have all the weathering done, decals on now, painting in the lights..............and I am definitely not the steady hand sort like you chaps. But I think you will like it. Then I will have to slowly uncross my eyes from all the small detail work, and take a break for a touch. My second problem is photography................I definitely need a Photography for Dummies Book, because taking pictures for me is like roller skating on a frozen ice rink. I just point and shoot and hope the **** thing works.............I will include my painting of my Vigil, Venator and an entire Rebel fighter Wing.

Absolute basics:

Assuming your subject matter is "kinda dark":

1) White Background. Get a bigass piece of paper. Set part of it udner the model and have the paper curve up behind it.

2) Light. Light should be from above and from the side, if possible. Saves you having to use Flash.

3) Camera. If you have a camera, set it for macro, and let it do its work... Because there's a **** TON of tiny details, but for absolute basic, let it do its work. The only way you need to Support that, is by supporting it . Don't hold it. Put it on a block, or a book, or a tripod. Anything to stop it from wobblin'.

At which point, now you can go further :D

Oh yeah, I've got access to decent kit, tripods and have a few backdrops printed for when I shoot them properly, the last lot were just quick and dirty iphone shots during a game, (also didn't have access to the decent camera at the time - it was at work), was just eager to take a snap of the vics.

Late afternoon in my kitchen seems to have the best light in my house, so I have to catch it when I can (I never use a flash, will always find good light when shooting properly) was going to try this weekend, but I forgot to take the camera from work! doh!

Cool, cool, sorry, I misread thinking you were asking for advice, when really, you're more prepared than I am :D

Ha, no worries. Yeah, they were just "holy c**p that looks cool, must take photo now" shots :D

Yo yo, had a bit of spare time this arvo, while waiting for my xbox to install Deus Ex, so I grabbed my iphone and the missus's camera tripod and took some shots in the kitchen while the % of install ticked far too slowly for my liking. Also dug out my pre-vis stuff to post alongside, now that they are all complete.

Here's my initial pre-vis that I used to design the emblems and fleet markings:

PRE-VIS_zpsobusujlh.jpg

It was nice to be able to get the feel of the fleet before pulling the trigger on it. I initially planned double yellow stripes on the VSD's, but I figured scale might have been an issue, the ISD has a larger playarea for it's emblem, so may still use it there. The ISD is not a final design, well, it may well be in the end, I haven't decided yet!

All 3 Victory's finally painted:

Arrowhead:

Reliant:
3-RELIANT_zpspjvrnb2t.jpg

Trident:
2-TRIDENT_zpsuc51q10r.jpg

Overall, pretty pleased how they look, Trident 's Emblem being my favourite. Wished for a bit more symmetry on the Reliant' s.
Glad to finally have them all done. ISD is next, not sure when, but will take my time with it.

Also thought I'd throw in a group shot, including Demolisher who started this whole mad paintfest.

Will try and get all in one at some point and hope to profile the Raiders and Glad as well, like I did above for the Vic's. But, I'm gonna need bigger than my A3 backdrop!

I really like this fleet :) great work!

Thanks Cheesy!

The "beast is done".......................now going to read my photography for half blind, old farts book :) Then post some pictures.

Nice, all you really need is a corner of the house with decent light, and something to steady your camera (or a rock steady hand). And hell, if the light is good enough, even an Iphone will do the job. The post above was all shot on my old Iphone 4S (albeit with a bit of boost and colour correction in Photoshop).

I look forward to seeing it :)

I can't believe I missed this first time around!

Something about your fleet reminds me of Roy Fokker's VF-0S, in as positive a way as possible:

vf-0s-fighter.gif

Nice, Yeah, Black/White/Yellow (or Orange) has always been a favourite colour scheme of mine (much to the chagrin of my graphic design tutors back in my college days, ha!).

Really pleased how it all came out, only the ISD and another Glad to go (although I'm at a loss what to do with the glad other than an alternative emblem, as this all started because I wanted Demo to look unique, and it all just kind of spiraled a bit.)

But no regrets at all! Now I'm just waiting for Wave 5, bring it on!

That is one of the best fleets I've seen in a while 54nch32. Really simple, but phenomenally effective, I love it!

Thanks Herod :D
