A couple of good shots of the U-Wing

By Audio Weasel, in X-Wing

The U-Wing will be a perfect addition to the X-Wing ground game - Atmospheric Battlegrounds! With Chicken Walkers, AT-ATs, cloud cars, and snowspeeders! Lets do it! Turret pack blister pack, shield generator blister pack! AT-AT's come with an attachment that fits into 2 docking clamps on the gozanti so you can add huge ships if you want for thematic luster! Land a GR-75 directly on the ground as an objective! Defend the Transport until it gets loaded!

Man that would be awesome!

Perhaps you think you are being treated.... unfairly?

Well you can have a magnetic field keep in the air but it's a blaster not a cannon so it won't really hurt a fighter.

But yeah another rebel whale isn't something to get excited over sadly.

Really? Because, Poe's x-wing was damaged by stormtroopers firing their F-11D blasters.

It was on the ground with no shields, and got shot right in the area with no armor. Probably did not do enough damage to truly kill it, but shorted out something that would have taken a few min for fix/reroute that Poe did not have.

starwars goes back and forward with how strong shields are, its kinda annoying.

On one note, ship shields can be so potent its a waste of time to try and punch it. On the other, a handgun can punch it. Wat? Even in the modern day no vehicle mounted gun is equivalent to a one-man gun. They are always either full auto or high caliber or both.

granted, that scene it wasnt flying but its not the first time a personal rifle has damaged a ship

I realize its a mistake to try to infuse any reality into starwars, but to me, some thought about real world use makes the whole thing more real. Consider the dropship from aliens, for instance. that thing looks and feels real, in part because of it's design, weathering, etc. It feels Authentic, much like the ships in a new hope and ESB. Weathered, they look like they can do what they do.

I think a ship designed as a landing craft ought to have a good view of the ground, this is why black hawks and hueys (and Chinooks, etc) have chin bubbles.

I think a tie phantom or YT-1300 like cockpit that protrudes out over the front of the ship but is low slung makes sense, with good visibility of the ground (which is often uneven). Then Id put a turret just above and behind the cockpit, so that when this thing touches down, that gunner can see everything out front, can attack and shoot down on enemies in cover, and lay down cover fire for the troops that are getting off.

A craft designed to insert troops into hostile territory needs to be able to give (and take) a beating. It's also really helpful to be able to see the ground

So it suffered a Crit in x-wing terms. As Artoo was also hit by a vehicle weapon, and not disintegrated, the comparison doesn't work. Vehicle and personal weapons don't seem that different. Game wise, it makes either viable for inflicting damage.

Now, the only stipulation I would put on it, as a handheld weapon gunner, would be range. Maybe rangw one at most, or touching bases.

That's how a 2-die attack looks like when not absorbed by shields and/or armour:

In Episode I the difference between blasters and fighter grade cannons is shown very clearly as well, with droidekas, untouchable for handheld weapons, being massacred by a N-1 fighter and later said N-1's shield straight off bouncing incoming blaster fire.
