U-wing details just in time for Wave 10 Announcement...

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

I'm with those hoping for swinging wings on the model.

Not that I'm likely to get it.

Yeah, and definetively, it needs a large stand...

U-Wing might be part of Wave 9.

I really don't care when they release it as long as the pilots have real names.

Names like Ben Smith and Sally Brown? :)

Haha. Anything's better than Red Ace Super Star.

Its still..... odd.... but the moveable wings are better for the eyes.

Really hoope the wings are moveable.

Needs medium base.

There is no medium base. But there are a few ships that should have got one because they are to big for small bases but to small for large bases: K-Wing, TIE Punisher, Aggressor, G-1A.

Something the game has needed for about a year now...

looks huge. like almost ghost size. large base for sure is my guess.

I'm guessing a slightly better dial than the Lambda, with comparable stats- it is after all a troop transport/gunboat similar to the Lambda. Maybe one more agility and more shields than hull?

The lambda is more of an official transport, the Sentinel is more of a Imperial troop transport, though I might just be saying that because I want one in the game.

In X-Wing I certainly hope they would be set forward as well if for no reason other than to reduce the size of the footprint it leaves. Despite this I think it may look better with the wings back.

That and that fact that, when the wings are swept back it, you know, doesn't form a U anymore.

Backwards wings remind me of one thing and one thing only.

While the swing wings would be great, I would think the biggest problem would be getting the engines to pivot so that they always stay in alignment as the swing takes place...conventional swing-wing fighters have their engines in the fuselage [at least, I can't think of any at the moment with wing mounted...anyone ?]

...I'd think the gearing/ratchet mechanism to achieve that might be quite complicated & tricky to engineer in a small miniature...and if you just had the engine pods loose and had to re-position them manually, that'd be a bit naff and also prone to getting loose over time.

I'd be happy with them staying as a U, and maybe it could use a base like the Senators Shuttle from the original core, which is 'small' width, but kinda 'medium' length...

EDIT: My Bad...just looked closer at the GIF frames and realised it looks like the engines are actually mounted on stubs at the rear fuselage, that the wings close up to...so, yes, having the swing wings would be great!

Really not bad for an off the cuff guess. I would add a turret slot instead of the extra torpedo to mimic the door gunner aspect. Or maybe a mechanic so that it can fire off everywhere except the rear arc.

With the wings closed, does anyone else think it looks like a big Snow speeder?

lots of troops pile out of that think so i see the rebel shuttle being a possibility ...... lots of crew

I don't think you want to open the doors in the vacuum of space

Details, details...
