U-wing details just in time for Wave 10 Announcement...

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

So the Star Wars show gave us some more specs on the U-wing

Anyone else pretty certain we will see this ship for Rebels in Wave 10, which seems likely to be announced at Gencon?

If the wings are open on the model, that will be a biiiig blister.

That's what she said...

So based on the size, do we think we'll get our first cross-faction release and have a 'Rogue One' set that is the U-Wing and the TIE Striker?

The wings now make a bit more sense. A super "swing-wing" design.

Love that it is definitely the SW equivalent to a 'Huey'; but at the same time, can't see the point of the swing wings. Think it would have been better if it they were fixed forward.

If we do see it in game; I'm hoping that's the configuration it comes in.

Someone snag a gif of both wing configurations, stat!

The "front" setting is to make it more compact, the "back" setting to make it look cool.

With the wings out you may have better roll control and in an atmosphere they could provide more surface area than if they are tucked in along the body. If you assume the engines have "air intakes" I'd also guess that having the wings out would interfere with that less.

In X-Wing I certainly hope they would be set forward as well if for no reason other than to reduce the size of the footprint it leaves. Despite this I think it may look better with the wings back.

Based off what they said I think the U-wing has the wings swept forward while in gunship mode, and the wings swept back in flight mode. I wonder if FFG will try to release it with movable wings, or if they will go with one version over the other.

thats hot

It should be a medium base tbh

I don't know. I kind of like the wings forward look more than the swept version. With them aft they make it too airplaney looking for my taste. Regardless, I like the ship.

I really doubt we'll see the swept back version in game. Too damned big. It'd make the K-Wing look stubby.

That looks so much better.

Kinda seems like it'd be pretty easy to make those wings pivot like that. Easier than the Lambda's, anyway. And we'll probably get swing-wings for the same reason...impossible to ship the Lambda in any kind of reasonable package size WITHOUT moving wings, which I think looks to be the case, here.

With the wings 'forward', this shouldn't really be any longer than the K-Wing is 'wide', so would fit in that blister size okay.

Yes, but it's not as big as the concept art. Here is my render :)

As always thanks Mel.

I'm hoping for a situation like the Lambda, where the wings can be folded in or out.

I'm also hoping for a 0-point "Swing Wing" dual upgrade title that will change the statline and available actions depending on which side is up.

I'm guessing a slightly better dial than the Lambda, with comparable stats- it is after all a troop transport/gunboat similar to the Lambda. Maybe one more agility and more shields than hull?

Pretty dang sweet.

The ugly y-wing/x-wing-Ugly suddenly doesn't look horrible when the wings swing back like that!

I hope they make it like Mel's or with moving wings.

Solid. I'm super excited for the U-wing (and some new X-wings). I really don't care when they release it as long as the pilots have real names.

Names like Ben Smith and Sally Brown? :)
