Non-lethal 'bounty hunting' for Jedi/Force-Users

By Guest, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'd like to explore more options for PCs who accept paid commissions (read: bounties) for non-lethal capturing/interrogating or otherwise uncovering Jedi and other Force-users. PCs need not be actual 'Bounty Hunters" as a career choice, but play as said hunters.

For example, an Ithorian bellows. While this may not be the optimal way to approach a Force-user, the bellows cannot be reflected or parried. Likewise, some sonic weapons follow suit as lightsaber-proof weapons, and weapons that can be non-lethal. Sure, nets and gases can work, too, but how does this come to fruition to match possible careers that emphasize non-lethal combat or investigation about Jedi/Force-using lore? A Duros Navigator with Seek Force Powers could fly the party's ship and help track the elusive, enigmatic target.

I also like the conflicted talents for the Executioner and Warden, who suggest how important having a Force-user mentor/trainer can be to avoid slipping (further?) into the Dark Side. With two Conflict-talented careers in two Force and Destiny sourcebooks, I wonder if the trend will continue: a slightly-Dark Sided PC career with associated Conflicted talents.

Am I on the right track by using non-lethal weapons? An Ithorian (Ranged-Heavy) Executioner has access to a lot of good sonic weapons when its target is a Force-user, or can otherwise fill its role within the party as a primary ranged combatant. What other careers (primarily Force-using ones) would match well with the intended goals of said party? Thanks in advance!

If you are talking about hunting Jedi, stun weapons work reasonably well. Yes, they can be reflected, but it still causes strain to the target when they do it. So in that manner, stun works better than lethal against Jedi, since reflect allows you to substitute strain for some health. And if you want to go crazy, mod a stun weapon to go autofire.

Wardens are strain damage and movement debuff oriented

Main weapon skill is brawl, which can be used to cause strain dmg, or prevent movement by using knockdown

Grapple allows for restricted movement by causing you to take 2 maneuvers to break away

Scathing tirade can be used for group strain damage

No escape causes your opponent to lose their free maneuver(and when combined with grapple makes sure they cannot break off except when using certain abilities letting them jump or break off, like the one that allows you to break off as an incidental), keyed to coercion checks like the one you make with scathing tirade, or fear checks like the ones caused by......

Fearsome, another ability that cause strain damage amongst other things

Baleful gaze and overbalance can cause your opponent to lose their action.

If you can pick up crippling blow (aggressor has as well as one if the bounty hunter specs), this can cause any movement to cause even more strain.

The bellow can be subject to Reflect in this system. However, it can't be thrown back at you with Reflect (Improved) and it also has the option of doing a lesser amount of Blast damage (which cannot be reduced with Reflect).

Thanks so far- these replies are great and inspiring.

So, an Ithorian Warden may be the best single option, plus like-minded equipment? I like the idea of inflicting Strain damage, since this seems linked to a lot of lightsaber-using careers and may minimize its effectiveness.

Talking with someone else, droid tech built minions offer another to preoccupy the Force-user without fully engaging the party. Sure, droids may be mere minions, but they are also immune to Force-powered mind-effects, further limiting the Force-user's response.

Don’t forget glop grenades and other area-effect weapons that can cause stun damage or otherwise hinder their movement.

Don’t forget bolas that can also hinder their movement.

And slug throwers could be used to do stun damage, under the right circumstances.

Stokhli sticks and SSB Static Pistols are Active stun weapons, and would bypass Soak. Stokhli sticks have the advantage of firing a liquid “net” that hardens around the target, and thus I don’t think they’d be able to reflect it.

There’s lots of anti-Jedi technologies that could be used. ;)

Pressure point talent.... It's a *****.

For strain damage... the model 77 with smart traq ammunition and a good, long, obstructed path between you and the Jedi.

yeah by far prssure point is the strongest non lethal take down in the game it ignores armor, but it kinda sucks if you get dis armed =)

That’s what Wookiees are best at — dis arming people. ;)

Now, if you’re a Wookiee Marauder that has that talent, that’s a whole different kettle of scalefish. ;)
