Let's get technical...

By Cpt Barbarossa, in X-Wing

Started looking at underused cards, namely R4B11. Basically a stress-free Zuckuss, which sounds cool, bur it comes at a price...a TL.

However, when reading the card, it doesn't ''techincally'' specify that the TL must come from the attacking ship. I quote : ''if you have a target lock on the defender...''. A detail-focused person such as myself would argue that the tl could therefore come from any friendly ship. Am I wrong? Cmon, shoot me down... :)

YOU is always the the ship the upgrade is on.

It all depends on whether the ''you'' is the player or the pilot. Is there a general rule for this matter?

Answer came before i could even click post! Bravo, thanks for the answer

It's on the first page of the Rules Reference that comes in the TFA core set (and is freely available through the website).

Nothing refers to the player in this game with regarding to upgrades, they ALL specify that ship as "you" and only refer to other ships as "other friendly/enemy ship" - this is why Vessery's ability specifically says a red targetlock on the defender to acquire one, because thats the only way for the wording to work and allow you to get his ability off of someone else's targetlock.

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah shoulda read the rules for that, but figured i'd ask you learned folk first...the answer is always faster :)

Thanks anyway

a detail-focused person such as yourself should read the rulebooks before making assumptions.

Excellent response, thank you. You're right I'll think twice before posting here.

Ignore the snark. Some people can't be nice AND helpful at the same time.

Meh. Don't brag about something (detail oriented person) and then immediately show that you're not what you claimed. If he had just asked a question, he wouldn't have gotten any snark.

Or just be a nice person and let it slide.

I dunno, attempted " technically... it says this... " Rules-lawyer types really piss me off, so I think knocking such people down a peg or two is justified.

Simply asking a question and misinterpreting a rule? That's fair. Being a bellwhacker about it? Not so much.

Fly casual. And be polite when helping someone understand the rules. I've had the luxury of playing this game shortly after it was released, so I've had plenty of "dumb" questions asked of how to play this game. I could either be jackass and give them snark, or be decent and give them a helpful answer. I'd rather be helpful than snarky.

How do you denote a target lock on a player? I for one use a marker pen or a laser pointer.
