GenCon Updates Thread

By shmitty, in Star Wars: Armada

So nothing new announced at gencon? I've seen heaps of picks of other products but nothing about gencon.

Really disappointed with the idiots derailing this thread too. It's just poor form considering how many people have highlighted the issue.

My understanding is that the FFG announcements panel isn't until tomorrow morning.

More pics and updates, please!

Won game 3 as well. Ended up in 3rd for today and made the cut.

Pics and more info later when I get back to the hotel.

Congrats, man. Keep it up!

Nice work...good luck moving forward.

Congrats man! Thanks for keeping us updated!

We had a good crew of forum personalities make the cut. I ended up fifth today. Everyone is great and really friendly. I think the armada community is one of the best overall communities that I've seen in gaming. Great times!

Please get me a phase 2 book!

Great write up.

thanks for taking the time to do a writeup!

all the best for the cut, shmitty!

Looks like rebels are making a good showing ?

Gouging is a bit of a strong term to use, especially on a luxury product. It's not like buying plastic spaceships is fundamental to your ability to live/work/pay your bills. It would be nice if the card was more readily available, I agree. But on the flip side, you can proxy to your heart's content in casual play, FFG is a business that wants sell product (again, a luxury product), and frankly, if you look at X-Wing (and Armada actually), they've usually been pretty good about identifying cards that get a lot of play and eventually getting more of them into circulation (Xi7 & Leading Shots, for Armada examples). I agree, it would've been nice if a card like that, which seems strong, would've at least been in two of the expansions, but if it does prove strong, more will eventually be made available.

You mean a hobby? right, luxury products are high end sports cars, yachts, $20,000 watches, stuff like that.

And I am so sick and tired of the lame ass argument, "it is not fundamental to your ability to live/work/paybills." total and utter strawman.

When you create a rule system that requires multiple copies of the same cards to play in a competition, you create demand, for your supply, they know this, we know this. Getting pissed about it, is fine, and no plastic models are not luxury items, you know they are made out of oil right? something that is at a historic low in price.

Hand painted by someone like Vykes, I could maybe, just maybe buy into "luxury" products. they are in fact mass produced in china for pennies, and vastly and I mean vastly inflated in price for us the buyer.

Telling it like it is.

Though a little self-privilege check on these un-neccesseties comes off nicely as reflective.

I, to this day, still have no intel officers. My firing teams run on hamster powered abacuses.

That's it, I demand a Hamster Powered Abacuses card in Wave 5.

Why would you let an odd number through the cut?

There is another flight of opening rounds today I believe.

Top 8 of each day. Then a few more tied with the 8th place scorer to create a pool between 16-24.

That's a good question of an odd number on Saturday. I'd have to ask.

Makes a bit more sense with the two qualifying groups. Still would be weird to have byes when they have control over picking the number of players. Nobody actually wants byes, they are just an unfortunate result of odd numbers.

Yes, but if you have two people tied on points, you probably want to completely cut someone randomly even less than you want byes...

Hopefully we get an odd number out of today and it's a non-issue, but if the choice is "bug off and go home" vs. "sorry one guy gets a bye", I do think the bye is the lesser of the two evils.

An unfortunate feature of swiss pairings, though. I would rather they let someone at least make the cut and play once than just get sent home.

Round 2 of the tournament is going well, but the news of the hour is Wave 5. Here are some pics from the FFG display cases.

Looks like there's still room in that case for a Super Star Destroyer!!!!!!

Barely enough Internet to post, but Cactus wins round 1 7-4.

Nothing about the Corellian conflict?

Nothing about the Corellian conflict?

I have a bunch to share about that soon.

In the meantime, here's some Wave 5 notes: link.

And here is info about the Corellian Conflict!
