I like this topic, I really love the StarViper, but it is so expensive. I think the Fang will take over the Interceptor role for Scum, I just wish I could fit in a Viper too. Also having the Unique title makes it not worthwhile to run more than one. I would love it if they would release pilot sets so that each ship has at least 6-8 pilots to choose from.

Sensor+lone Wolf+Autothruster Guri is still substantially tougher than a Fang.

Yeah I've been finding this surprisingly effective given her PS of 5.

blocks aces, shoots before generics, doesn't care if generics block her because that's a free focus and her defense mods are intact actionless

Thats doesnt fix the starviper. That fixes Talonbane Cobra. The rest of the starviper pilots remain just as broken.

39 points of beauty. I once had her solo quad TLTs they could not touch her. in the end game she really shines against any opponent

I have been running Guri with Stygium Particle Accelerator and Cloaking Device with SJ and LW. As long as you don't burn out the cloak too early you can get those free evades that are often better than Autothrusters. I haven't dared bring it to a tournament yet but it's my favourite "fun" ship right now.

Also; Guri has had a little resurgence round here as of late with Dengar/Guri builds doing well and I've had good results with Guri in a mindlink list. Still; it does seem to be only Guri that's viable and the Fang may well push her further towards oblivion. No doubt we'll have another band aid fix in a box that you only really want to get your vipers out again at some point...

The next Epic ship is supposed to be for Scum and the Starviper is supposed to be in it with some fixes.(rumored)

The Starviper is the best pure fighter in the game. We don't know what the dial looks like on the Fang yet, but I'm guessing it won't have a 1 straight. Might not even have 1 banks. It has the T-roll rather than the S-turns, this much we've seen. That 1 shield makes a big difference too. Despite what the preview article says, the Fang is shaping up to be an interceptor type ship.

The Starviper IS NOT an interceptor. From the day it came out many have tried to place it in that roll. It does not have the PS or the greens. It does have an amazing dial. I would argue the best in the game. The only red are those S-turns!

I personally love the PS 1 Black Sun Enforcers that many have called DOA. Because they move first they are great blockers and force the action where you want it to be. I like to fly two of them along with Kath. Kath tends to get the early attention and my Starvipers are foolishly ignored. Once these guys get the upper hand on you (positioning wise) they keep it! The Starvipers ensure that the enemy ships fly where I want them too, or they get blocked and shot without tokens for defense. I set up lose/lose situations.

While I would love to add a System slot to all Starvipers, I just don't agree with the popular thought that they are underpowered or overcost. If they cost 23 points and had a System slot, more players would use this amazing ship. Try this at home. You'll soon see that this set up is far overpowered!

Question: If I already Liked someone else's suggestion for MW/Aces package and it differs from this, do I have to unLike it in order to Like this?

I concur with the point that Most Wanted has been done. If it were to go MW again, do we have to say the previous set was Almost Most Wanted? Less Wanted but Still Wanted? And Aces ... well, do Scum really do that comparison thing?

How about Most Scummy or Most Villainous? Scum of the Black Sun?

Another thing: almost everyone has more SVs than they can use because of Autothrusters, so why not a Aces/Veterans pack along the lines of cards that fix the SV, plus some pilots, a Kihraxz and Scyk, with appropriate fixes and a Scum-painted Firespray with better fixes, for those who want a purer Scum.

Oh, yeah! Focusing on the actual topic ... I fly Guri and it's taken some time to get flying her right. With Predator and AT, I've had fun with her. Will be doing Attani ML with an Aggressor and Palob soon.

A 'Quite Popular' box with a Khiraxz, M3A and a Starviper would tie everything up nicely.

I would love to see the Scum Aces Expansion box be more like Most Wanted- with added cards, tokens & dials for certain existing ships (but no re-purpose stuff). It could come with 2 ship models (StarViper, Scyk) then add game gear for the Kihraxz and even a few new pilots for the Z-95 or other Scum ships. Of course there would be a bunch of awesome Illicits, Mods and Titles too.

Then Jabba's Yacht could have deployment rules for docking Z-95's, and FFG doesn't need to include any Headhunter models... 'cause everyone and their sister has half a dozen anyway.

I have been rooting for a scum triples aces box [syck, starviper, kihraxz] but your idea is better.

Speaking as a huge starviper fan, Ill take a 23 point ps1 fang with title and autothrusters, or even naked at 20 points, or even a 23 point concord dawn ace plus a couple points of upgrades over a ps1 starviper anyday. For that matter, why take a 25 point starviper when I could spend the same 25 points to buy a shield upgrade and title on the ps1 fang? Unless the dial is terrivle its bwtter in every way. How again do you think the starviper isnt overcosted for the generics?

And the only red on the starviper being the sloopps sounds great, until you realize that its because it has no kturn. And theres plenty of times youd REALLY rather kturn instead of slooping

Starvipers have easy ways to be fixed. Unlike the Syck. I'm not worried yet.

However, I've not been happy with the recent design team. Their ideas don't seem to be well balanced and they're increasing within-ship synergy too much. Also too wordy.

Easiest Starviper fix atm for generics and uniques:

At the start of the round, you may recover 1 shield, up to your shield value.

Id totally use that on guri or xizor, but doesnt help the already-way-overpriced generics

Yes it does. With AT you get a 28 point shield regenerating ship that isn't that easy to deal with. Since its a generic, likely it will block to get into the action, then be behind them as turn to engage your other more scary threats.

It'll also be good vs turrets.

Though sadly, the 20 point concord with AT is likely to be better than everything else. Including the khiraxz.

We all know it to be true: The StarViper has never really been a top choice for Scum lists due to its high cost and not-green-enough dial. Occasionally Xizor is used in a swarm type list, but really needs a list built around him to use his ability effectively. The generics are nowhere to be seen with their excessive cost and the ship's unique title. That has left Guri as the popular choice if you were going to fly the StarViper. But now we have the Fang Fighter that seems to come in and successfully beat out the StarViper in every category. Vipers have a shield and unique systems slot, but the Fang pilots have higher PS, a non-unique title, and are supposed to have a greener dial. The real kicker is the cost comparison. The most expensive of the Fangs come in around the low to mid-30s. A popular Fenn build that has been going around comes in at 34. Guri is 38 at least, usually, and sometimes gets up to the low 40s. The abilities are comparable but the cost and PS difference is substantial. So I'm wondering if there is anything you would take a StarViper for instead of a Fang Fighter? Are StarVipers now completely obsolete, pending a fix? Have we seen the last StarViper in a semi-serious setting? Please share your thoughts.

So stuff 1 Shield Upgrade on them, which will bring them approximately in line, and that brings their PS1 up to 28 points with a very similar stat line and similar dial compared to the defenders at 28 points (some might argue a better dial).

But why is the X7 better? The only thing left to compare difference is the free evade over 3 speed moves. Guess I'm not sure I necessarily see that as completely overpriced that many people think it is. The PS is too low IMHO though, should be higher, and Xizor's ability is kinda crappy. Maybe that's why people don't like them. Not like anyone flies some of the named pilots for defenders either.

So youre making an already too expensive ship even more expensive. And shield regen with a single shield is worse than being able to get an evade token. And as you pointed out yourself, the fang shows how overcosted the starviper is. Outside of the dial, add a shield upgrade to the ps1 fang and you have the same exact stats and ps as the starviper for 1 point less. And shields are worth less when built in than they are built in than they are from the upgrade. Which points to the ps1 viper being probably at least 2 points too expensive
