The Last StarViper

By RogerWilco15, in X-Wing

I prefer the rumour that claims a 3-ship* Scum Aces and a no-small-included Huge Pack.

* = and since I've already started inflicting my personal opinion on you - I'd like to see a TPV scheme Scyk, a Black Sun K-fighter and a Vigo variant SV with the red BS icon (although, I've only just realised the contradiction of a high ranking Black Sun member using a red sun on their ship... but wouldn't expect 2 BS in the same pack anyway... unless it was a BS themed box, but then no TPV :( )

Wow. That's a lot of BS.

But seriously, those repaints would be so good!

"MOST WANTED II"

I would love to see the Scum Aces Expansion box be more like Most Wanted- with added cards, tokens & dials for certain existing ships (but no re-purpose stuff). It could come with 2 ship models (StarViper, Scyk) then add game gear for the Kihraxz and even a few new pilots for the Z-95 or other Scum ships. Of course there would be a bunch of awesome Illicits, Mods and Titles too.

Then Jabba's Yacht could have deployment rules for docking Z-95's, and FFG doesn't need to include any Headhunter models... 'cause everyone and their sister has half a dozen anyway.

I have been rooting for a scum triples aces box [syck, starviper, kihraxz] but your idea is better.

Best name someone mentioned was " MOST VILLAINOUS "

Really? Nobody has come up with a better name? "Hunters for Hire"? "Infamous Pirates"? ...Okay, this is a lot harder than I thought.

Wanted: Dead or Alive

Fluttersby - modification 0 points - Starviper only

- At the start of your combat phase you may exclaim in a loud voice "It's beautiful!". If you do, all ships within range 3 of this ship lose all Focus tokens and cannot modify dice for this round. Then spread your wings and spin around like you just don't care.

Most Wanted II: Wretched Hive

Again with the Starviper bashing... <_<

The Starviper is the best pure fighter in the game. We don't know what the dial looks like on the Fang yet, but I'm guessing it won't have a 1 straight. Might not even have 1 banks. It has the T-roll rather than the S-turns, this much we've seen. That 1 shield makes a big difference too. Despite what the preview article says, the Fang is shaping up to be an interceptor type ship.

The Starviper IS NOT an interceptor. From the day it came out many have tried to place it in that roll. It does not have the PS or the greens. It does have an amazing dial. I would argue the best in the game. The only red are those S-turns!

I personally love the PS 1 Black Sun Enforcers that many have called DOA. Because they move first they are great blockers and force the action where you want it to be. I like to fly two of them along with Kath. Kath tends to get the early attention and my Starvipers are foolishly ignored. Once these guys get the upper hand on you (positioning wise) they keep it! The Starvipers ensure that the enemy ships fly where I want them too, or they get blocked and shot without tokens for defense. I set up lose/lose situations.

While I would love to add a System slot to all Starvipers, I just don't agree with the popular thought that they are underpowered or overcost. If they cost 23 points and had a System slot, more players would use this amazing ship. Try this at home. You'll soon see that this set up is far overpowered!

Speaking as a huge starviper fan, Ill take a 23 point ps1 fang with title and autothrusters, or even naked at 20 points, or even a 23 point concord dawn ace plus a couple points of upgrades over a ps1 starviper anyday. For that matter, why take a 25 point starviper when I could spend the same 25 points to buy a shield upgrade and title on the ps1 fang? Unless the dial is terrivle its bwtter in every way. How again do you think the starviper isnt overcosted for the generics?

And the only red on the starviper being the sloopps sounds great, until you realize that its because it has no kturn. And theres plenty of times youd REALLY rather kturn instead of slooping

There is no better pure fighter in the game.

I really wasn't thinking of a good name, just saying I would like it have pilots for ships not in the box.

"Scum Aces" seems the best but I like "Wretched Hive".

Rejected names: Villain Veterans, Heroes of the Villainy, More Scum, Big ol' Box of Scum, Pirates of Naboo....

How about,

"Outer Rim Pirates"

or

"Outer Rim Mercenaries"

but not

"Outer Rim Smugglers"

Aces of Infamy

It's not over cost because of the dial. White one turns and green 1 banks and straight is brutal. It will survive the first pass and then sick to you like glue (especially because it has boost ans barrel roll).

There is no better pure fighter in the game.

I never said anything about how good of a fighter it is. Like I said, I love the starviper, it's a great ship. But it's absolutely overcosted. White 1 turns and green 1 banks and straight don't make up for the extra points you have to spend on it. The TIE Defender is a fantastic fighter, but still never saw use since it was also too expensive.

Eh

The fangs not a dedicated jouster no matter what the article says

And the starviper isn't a dedicated arc dodgers no matter who tries to square peg ptl into the round insert of that dial

So...no they don't overlap even a little bit

Unless you're talking generics but viper generics made themselves obsolete on release

wait....wouldn't that make them overlap more not less?

An often overlooked issue that plagues the Viper is that Scum have the best crew slots in the game presently and the Viper can't take crew.

When Wave 9 drops you are going to have the rarely used Fire-spray 31, the paired Aggressors, Dengar/Manaroo, Double Jumps and HWK, Triple Jumps, Ketsu and Aggressor, Dengar and Kestu. . . See where I am going with this?

All but one of them can sport crew and are generally considered the most competitive options.

I mean, think about it, Guri starts off at 30 points, you add in an EPT, AT and then the title for the System slot and before you know it, you are pushing 40 + points, and all that can easily get rekt by most of the above due to damage, crew, abilities, etc.

Now, all that being said, I am trying to get good at Guri, Torkil, Palob and two Pirates list. I think it has mixed tools and can compete around the mid tables.

Also Wanted: Just not as much

Comes with the Scyk and Star Viper but no re-fits or fixes, just new pilots with mid PS and meh abilities.

Casual gamers will be like, "yay, more stuff for epic!!!"

Competitive folks with continue to ignore the Scyk and Star Viper as per SOP.

Heh, that's a depressing thought. But the Defender patch made them quite competitive. Charderaan refit did make A-wings at least seen occasionally. Advanceds are seen from time to time. Only X-wings have they failed to fix repeatedly.

That is a curious list... How do you spend your 7 remaining points on upgrades?

I've been really enjoying Guri as a part of a Mindlink list. Starvipers are spendy but the investment is worth it with the right amount of support.

38: Guri, Mindlink, Virago, Sensor Jammer, Autothrusters

30: Palob, Mindlink, TLT, Intel Agent, Cloaking Device

32: Manaroo, Mindlink, Unhinged Astro, K4 Droid

Total: 100

Palob steals focus tokens which powers up the sensor jammer. His intel agent allows Guri to make better use of her barrel roll/boost as well as allow him to make smart decisions about when to cloak. The cloaking device works efficiently because I can cloak and get focus on the same turn. Then Manaroo passes free target locks and more focus to whomever needs it most.

With all 3 of their abilities occurring simultaneously, you can choose the order to resolve them, which is some nice flexibility. The stress sharing downside to the Mindlink isn't so bad in this list. Jump masters and HWKs don't often need to do red maneuvers so it's only the occasional sloop from Guri that can cause problems. But then manaroo is always doing green moves anyway, and Palob can just do a green move after the sloop to clear it.

I ended up dropping a Pirate for more upgrades across the board. I noticed that when I used it last time, it was an Epic game. . ha!

However:

Guri - Mindlink - Autothrusters - Title - Fire Control

Black Sun Headhunter

Palob with Mindlink - Blaster Turret and title

Mux with Dorsal Turret and Zuckuss

That is 100 points and quite fun.
