Battle presence and strain

By Ridge363, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

If a hero, say biv, has strain equal to his endurance can can he exit a space adjacent to Boba fett and take damage. This came up in a campaign the other night and we decided that he can't. I disagreed but could find anything to back it up

The RRG says the following, but doesn't answer my question

• A hero cannot choose to suffer C if the amount of C he has

suffered would exceed his Endurance. This includes suffering C

to gain movement points or using abilities with a C cos

Suffering strain from Bleeding isn't voluntarily suffering strain, and I would say Battle Presence is not either.

The strain is a punishment, it does not allow the hero any benefit (such as activating an ability), nor can the Hero choose to suffer it or not when he leaves the space. Just like with Bleeding, the effect is not directly chosen by the hero, it is a consequence of exiting a space.

If you require that a hero avoids all indirect sources of suffering strain, does the hero also need to run away from Trandoshan Hunters, so their Relentless cannot give the hero strain?

Nothing prevents a hero from spending movement points to move away from Boba.

Then, when they exit a space adjacent to Boba, they suffer a strain. If their strain is maxed, they take damage instead.

If you use an ability that costs strain, you're spending strain for that ability voluntarily.

If you use strain to move, you're paying that strain cost voluntarily.

In the above case you're simply using movement points,THEN Fett's ability is causing you strain involuntarily.

So short answer, (and as mentioned above) yes you can choose to move and take the strain, which converts into damage.
