New Beasts of the Koronus Expanse= Crownes Basilisk

By player359820, in Rogue Trader

"The tales of the exploits of Rogue Trader Arcturio Crowne are too many to tell here; suffice it to say he and the crew of the Sterling Hart mapped many a world, burned many a heretic, and put many strange and wondrous Xenos to the power-sword. However, the primary passion of Crowne was blood sports, and when his dynastic profits were great enough, he built a vast arena on his favorite holding Crownes Elysium. Here he gathered the deadliest beasts from across the known galaxy to battle each other, gladiators, and even Crowne himself.

"When Gasparigos Terpid, a vassal of Crowne, discovered the planet Laxus V in the Foundling Worlds, he new he had discovered a beast which would please his lord. The first expeditions to the surface of Laxus V were exterminated shortly after arrival. Upon investigation, and the loss of over 500 men, the culprit was discovered to be a bizaare monster, with the power to tap into the warp. Non-psychic crew were driven mad if they gazed upon it, and were then sliced to ribbons. It was cunning, cruel, and efficient. Only when Terpids Navigator and Astropath joined the expedition was it possible to capture one. Due to its ability to drive men mad, Terpid named it "Crowne's Basilisk.

"The Basilisk was transported in a heavily warded chamber, and monitored by Terpids Psker Marianna Gort. the creature reached out to Gort, and soon had her as its thrall. Upon arrival, Crowne was impressed. The monster was everything he wanted and more. He scheduled a massive spectacle to be held, where the Basilisk would be unveiled. Crowne himself, with a hardened band, would fight the Basilisk before the public. Nobles, the Governor, and other high officials came to watch what would be a fabulous show.

"Gort, now a thrall of the Basilisk, was tasked to ward the arena and Crowne's band of fighters. Needless to say, all of the wards were temporary. Minutes into the hunt scene, the wards collapsed. Within 5 minutes, the crowds went mad, and set upon each other like wild animals. Crowne was last seen tearing his own eyes out with his bare hands. Thousands died, and psykers fighting the Basilisk were cut to shreds.

"The Inqusition virus bombed Crownes Elysium, and changed its name to Crowne's Folly. It is suspected that the Basilisk died, but no man has set foot on Crowne's Folly since that day over 150 years ago. Crowne's Folly is fabled to hold riches beyond the imagination guarded by a monster which can drive men mad.

Here are the stats for Crownes Basilisk. A few remain on Laxus V. Depending on how deadly you want it to be, I have added several powers which you may use.

WS=48

BS= 25

S= 40

T= 35

AG= 50(10)

INT= 35

PER= 50

WP= 50

FEL= 12

TRAITS= BRUTAL CHARGE, DARK SIGHT, FEAR 4, FROM BEYOND, MULTIPLE ARMS, NATURAL WEAPONS 1D10+3, QUADRUPED, SIZE= HULKING, UNNATURAL AGILITY, ARMOR 4 TO ALL LOCATIONS, +30 TO CONCEALMENT, WARP EYE 4

More info on Crowne's Basilisk:

The Warp Eye 4 is basically the same as The Lidless Stare Navigator Power, with a resistance difficulty of +40. Psykers suffer this power at +20. A character has a 10% chance of becoming a thrall to the Basilisk from the attack.

The Basilisk's scales are multihued, and have a cloaking ability. The Basilisk is also able to perform micro-jumps of a few seconds, more like a stutter, making it very difficult to hit.

The Basilisk has 2 arms with razor sharp claws, and may do a similar attack with the tip of its tail, which uses the BS with a short range.

I was actually hoping that someone would give critique or advice on this construction.

well i tried it with some powers and i think we would do better against it later but it killed us (All but out navigator who ran away after it ripped our RT me in half. I got brave and charged it) it was actually fun though we are trying to take it down again tommorow but we are doing a hunt senario just us and the beast. We didnt use all the powers but we are going to try tommorow.

the fear was good by the way and the thrall ability awsome we think that with the back ground the beast should be a bit more powerful with its attacks but the abilities are great i actually felt afraid when it took my body guard as a thrall. Anyway as crazy as it sounds im going to try and jump on its back and blast it with a melta pistol in its head so wish me the best of luck and good hunting.

I am glad you are having fun with it. The Crowne backstory I actually ran. Everyone died. The problem with the creature is it might be too powerful. When I designed it, I was trying for a Xeno's race randomly, and some of these poppwed up. The Basilisk was once a normal race, but the emergence of the Navigator gene was too much for them to handle, and they all became tainted by the warp powers to an extreme. A Basilisk will attack and fight to the death any other Basilisk, so they are not reproducing. The few that remain are thousands of years old. They move so fast and "blink" that they can only be seen with psker powers. I pictured them as 3 meter long, 4 legged serpent thin creatures with two or four arms. They are multi-colored, and they have twelve eyes arranged down a horse shaped head. The mouth opens vertically. The warp eye is large and diamond shaped just above the mouth. They are covered in scales which are long and tattered, almost appearing as feathers.
