Similar to the LotR LCG?

Like these? :)

Oh! I just realised... Im gonna have to buy some new binders and sleeves and a carrycase and playmats and....

I hope it's not overly complicated. I never got into Call of Cthulhu or Android because of the overwhelming complexity. I like complicated games but I also like games I can play with my mundane (non gamer) friends.

Netrunner is not complicated in itself. I learned the rules quicker than LOTR because I find Netrunner more polished in terms of rules writing (in my own opinion).

The thing is, I have had many many difficulties to play Arkham Horror , I played it alone and with a friend and I never found it exciting. Maybe this was because I own the game in French and that Edge (the editor who translates FFg games) has made a terrible job at translating the rules, making them as obscure as Hell... who knows. So I never made step into any of the others "Cthulhu Myth"games. I am still heavily interested by this game. More, I think than I was some days ago with Star Wars Destiny... let's see...

But let me ask a question : I have LOTR : LCG, but never did it further than the main box campaign 'cause I'm so bad at this game (I checked the links mentioned above and maybe my play will feel better) but still : when you play a campaign, you play multiple scenarios (like all the Black Forest scenarios) that form the campaign, but can you then export your character to the next campaign with its built deck or do we have to restart from scratch every campaign we play ?

Interesting observations all. I feel like the Warhammer Quest Adventure Card Game has similarities to a LoTR LCG saga campaign, minus deckbuilding and controlling only one hero instead of three. The crux of both games is using limited actions to both progress the quest and survive combat. This game seems to be keeping the one hero aspect of WH, adding deckbuilding back in, and adding in even more RPG elements.

This sounds very cool, definitely will check it out. Makes me jealous that this cooperative RPG/LCG hybrid isn't available in the licenses I like more (LoTR/Star Wars), though! I would love to control and level up just one hero in Lord of the Rings or Star Wars (although I know a lot of people love the Cthulhu mythos, too).

I'm going to be honest as much as I'd love a Star Wars Solo/Coop LCG; I kind of hope they don't do one. The only reason I MIGHT be able to avoid this is because it isn't Star Wars. I already fully collect X-Wing, Armada, LotR, GOT LCG, and Eldritch Horror (meaning at least one of everything). Outside of those I have portions of Imperial Assault, Netrunner, Star Wars LCG, and Descent. I don't think it is an unreasonable request that they allow me to keep some of my money, you know for emergencies and stuff. I don't see how I could reasonably be expected to just ignore it if they release a Star Wars solo LCG; I'm finding it difficult enough to stay away from this.

Frankly, lack of impulse control is the problem of the buyer and FFG can't be held responsible for anyone going destitute because they "can't stay away".

I hope it's not overly complicated. I never got into Call of Cthulhu or Android because of the overwhelming complexity. I like complicated games but I also like games I can play with my mundane (non gamer) friends.

If Call of Cthulhu and Netrunner are too complex for your group, then they are not good candidates for LCGs. Personally I don't consider either one to be complicated, but if your friends do then they will probably consider Arkham Horror to be of similar complexity.

You don't have to play campaign in normal LOTR - I never have. But there are also the saga scenarios which try to follow the books and in those most players are playing campaign because the quests are designed that way.

This looks pretty awesome! Man, ffg has really been working on some sweet stuff these past few months...

Classes look similar to Guild Wars 2 classes, so I'm definitely hooked! Should be easy to introduce to my guild. Blue for guardians, purple for mesmer, green for necro, yellow for engineer and 1 other color

Oh boy, ... after MoM2, now this. FFG knows how to lure me in these times... Well, I am in for sure.

Hmm, I was planning to buy Warhammer Quest in a few weeks, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just wait for this one instead.

Well, it's a coop game so that even if there are more complex aspects, being on the same team with your friends, you can help them through the denizens of wording and complex actions. I'm not expecting an overcomplicated game, but it's an LCG, so, it'll be depth enough to have quite a few nuances

They are going to be pretty different, so first of all you should ask yourself what do you want/expect from the game.

There are a lot of rumors about GW not renewing the license to FFG for Warhammer products (we haven't seen announcements for Conquest in ages for instance) so, possibly WHQuest could be a dead end. Wait for GenCon and see if there's some official statement at regard (I'm confident some will ask Chris in the Q&A time after the InFlight report)

I'm kinda given up on WACG. So much time passed and despite success the game had, no expansion was ever announced.

You talk about Warhammer Conquest, don't you ? Then, what do you call exactly an announcement ? because the latest new is from July 26th and the third cycle is not yet fully released. Now, if you talk about big expansion boxes, that's basically right that no further announcement has been made for further products...even if the Necrons'expansion has been released only in May...

None of the GW licensed games have had anything new announced so most suspect the license is ending.

the only one that was kinda promising to me but was eventually discontinued is Diskwars... I found the game interesting and had bought two copies of each expansion box to be able to align the troops I wanted but then... As for Warhammer Invasion, this game has lived and it was a fun one tough it was full of strange rules the later LCG didn't retake. And for the rest, I don't know, Conquest was interesting but didn't got me in like Invasion.

to be back to the original topic : I hope the character we chose will be able to cross many campaigns with the same deck, built scenario after scenario but this a complete dream, I guess.

This would probably throw off the balance as well as being kind of counter to theme. Generally speaking, if you bump against the mythos and just die, you're one of the lucky ones.

There's really no way of knowing right now. All we have on that is the paragraph from the announcement:

"While you won't start your campaign with these [upper level] cards, you can spend experience to buy them and upgrade your deck between adventures, replacing other cards and 'leveling-up' your investigator. This ability to advance your character throughout a campaign is yet another way that Arkham Horror: The Card Game opens a portal between the realms of card gaming and roleplay."

It's not clear from that whether you start just the Core Set campaign without "upper level" cards in your deck, or whether you would start all campaigns without them (it's an LCG, so it's probably safe to assume there will be other campaigns in the future). Perhaps future campaign setup instructions will specifically allow "leveled up" decks from previous campaigns, or will give each investigator a certain amount of experience and allow you to upgrade your "base" deck before the beginning of the first adventure in the campaign. It really is far too early to tell.

The question that comes to my mind, though, is that in addition to "leveling up" your deck and thus carrying good things into the next adventure in the campaign, will it be possible to carry bad things into the next adventure in the campaign, too? For example, the announcement article talks about "basic" weaknesses that are incorporated into your deck. Is it possible to accumulate weaknesses into your deck, even as you "level up" your deck? And the card image for "Cover Up" mentions "mental trauma." What the heck is that?

Anyway, I mention this because if it is possible for you to "export your character to the next campaign with its built deck" instead of starting from scratch for the next campaign, I would expect you would have to export any bad the game makes you accumulate along with the good it clearly lets you accumulate.

I doubt that it's a complete dream, but I also doubt it would be as simple as keeping the higher level cards you earned in the previous campaign.

But again, it is just waaaay too early to know anything at this point, one way or the other. All we can do is speculate.

Just like the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, this game will make your investigator go mad. If you don't come out of an adventure with a higher level of paranoia, a fear of snakes and all things aquatic, stroking a decomposing bunny for comfort because it's your only friend, are you really playing Call of Cthulhu correctly?

There are only 4 packs in the queue. This should be the time for the next deluxe to be announced. And there are rumors (heard in too many different places) about GW not renewing the license to FFG. Hopefully it's just rumors and we'll have some good news at GenCon
