Similar to the LotR LCG?

to be back to the original topic : I hope the character we chose will be able to cross many campaigns with the same deck, built scenario after scenario but this a complete dream, I guess.

I don't see this coming: you can't balance a campaign for both levelled up characters and people starting with new decks, and this problem in balance would become bigger and bigger the more campaigns you pass

And it's the cthulhu mythos. You don't get to level 20, you stop the big evil, once or twice if you're Lucky. But sooner or later your sanity is gonna unravel and teh monsters will catch up with you...

Agree with Julia - likely all campaigns will be designed as if all characters have no experience. Of course, you don't need to play this way, and in fact if a scenario is too hard I can see a rule being added "For an easier play through, give you character X experience at the start of the campaign".

Some good points, thematically a long time experience Mythos character is either dead or insane, so short campaigns awesome, long campaigns not so much.

Gosh Im hyped for this!!

I have an Arkham Horror boardgame running on my table upstairs and need to get to it later :) I need wine, dark lighting candles, eerie music Yeah!!... Oh, my boy will burn the house down with candles and Im off booze until weekends... Hmm just boardgame maybe

For me, the perfect way is gonna be "character progresses until the end of campaign, at the start of each campaign players create new decks with unexperienced characters".

And the card image for "Cover Up" mentions "mental trauma." What the heck is that?

Just like the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, this game will make your investigator go mad. If you don't come out of an adventure with a higher level of paranoia, a fear of snakes and all things aquatic, stroking a decomposing bunny for comfort because it's your only friend, are you really playing Call of Cthulhu correctly?

Yeah, from a flavor point I get that. But how will this game measure "mental trauma" and the edge of insanity as a mechanic?

Guess we'll have to wait till the rules come out. I'm thinking you end up with madness cards in your deck.

Bob: "**** I'm almost out of bullets! I hope i draw a new weapon or a means to escape."

Bob: *draws card*: "Ah, Dendrophobia. To bad."

Bob: "The trees or comming at me!" *empties pistol inbto a nearby tree.*

Guess we'll have to wait till the rules come out.

But...but...I thought rampant speculation was the norm around here...

A perfectly reasonably response to fighting a dark young.

Yup!* I didn't know about the works of HP Lovecraft when I bought the CoC RPG. If I were to sum up what made me interested in picking up the book, in one word it would be "Dendrophobia". (And yes it also involved toughts about Dark young.)

* Except bullets aren't gonna do a damned thing to them before they stompsmasheatmaimkill you. ;)

Yeah, most mythos creatures are pretty much immune, or regenerate from any amount of damage. But as anyone who's seen Cast a Deadly Spell knows, byakhee have nuts. So there's that.

Hmm, I was planning to buy Warhammer Quest in a few weeks, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just wait for this one instead.

They are going to be pretty different, so first of all you should ask yourself what do you want/expect from the game.

There are a lot of rumors about GW not renewing the license to FFG for Warhammer products (we haven't seen announcements for Conquest in ages for instance) so, possibly WHQuest could be a dead end. Wait for GenCon and see if there's some official statement at regard (I'm confident some will ask Chris in the Q&A time after the InFlight report)

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I'm inclined to forget about Warhammer and just focus on Arkham Horror LCG. I hope GenCon will solidify that thought.

I'm also hoping the LCG allows for item purchases between missions, like Warhammer does. I like the idea of slowly outfitting my character during play. Seeing that they have the ability to equip items, I'm positively excited. :)

As a big fan of Lovecraft and card games I'm very excited for this, more so than MoM. CoC has been out and looks cool but I'm limited to solo gaming and this is just that. The theme is great and I love the deckbuilding and campaign aspects. So far my main two tabletop games are Friday and Eldritch Horror so I was wondering if I should get MoM 2nd Edition and then this is announced. My collection will be more skewed in one direction but I have more on the way and they both look like a lot of fun. Card games are really fun for me and I love the feeling of holding a hand and playing cards like in Pokemon and other TCGs which I lacked in Eldritch Horror. This game has that and more though so I'm very excited to see the rest of the previews and get my hands on my first LCG.

While I think the LCG format is very cool I'm hesitant about the larger price. With the rate of expansions from Eldritch Horror I've been able to get one or a couple for my birthday and Christmas and maybe one from selling something but with how LCGs release I don't know if I'll be able to keep up. I'd love to have all the content but looking at the LotR LCG's full cost including all expansions it seems like a lot and frequently for one game. You don't have to buy it of course but the game is built with it and mind and it seems you should get them in some order. I'll still get this for sure but I don't know if I'll be getting as many expansions or as often.

The price will be like most LCGs (and you never pay full price if you know what's good for you!), but you can expect the first cycle to be delayed. Then it'll be roughly monthly once it starts, and a short (or much too long) break between cycles. Deluxe boxes will now appear when ready, rather than having a set position between small packs. If you only follow this regularly it's manageable. If you follow LotR and other LCGs, like me…good luck.

Expansions for Eldritch Horror are at least 2.5x the price of the small LCG packs here though. You get cheaper packs more often, rather than having to wait for one big box to save up to. Even the larger deluxe expansions aren't that expensive. The prices at MM are ~$13 and ~$24, respectively. $13/month with an extra $24 twice a year isn't bad, and there will be quiet months with no releases for the game.

That is good news for my wallet. A monthly pack is doable.

Thanks for the explanation, it's reassuring. This will be the only LCG I invest in for now so it should be more manageable. With Eldritch Horror it's easy for me to get one small box around $24 or so and then get a big box for the next holiday making it only twice a year and about $70. Using your math it could be 2.5 times that each year which is big but if it's enjoyable content I won't have a problem. The monthly, small purchases are great for a lot of people I imagine and I can keep the price for them at $10-15 with Amazon Prime but I just don't have a source of income for it. I should be able to sell some things like usual though and get money where I can, allowing me to afford them and look forward to a monthly update.

Yeah, monthly works great until you slip ;)

I like to support proper gaming stores. I'm sure you can get great deals from Miniature Market, CSI or similar. Maybe even find places which do trade-ins.

There's too many LCGs I have to support. Not to mention three miniature games with regular releases from the company too! There should really be some sort of FFG visa card or mastercard.

It's almost to the point where we hope they kill more games. Almost.

Curious to see what you guys think now, after couple of months:)

For me - I'm having much more fun with this game ?. Deck building is much more manageable for me, I like the slow progression of your deck, the way the deck is closely associated with 1 character. Solo with 2 investigators is easy to manage. I prefer the way scenarios are implemented with a map of location cards, which feels more thematic and story driven, than with random locations drawn from a deck. The act/ agender deck works really well and I like the way the designers have manipulated this so far.

i will sell all my LOTR LCG when I get around to it!

wow, actually i was looking to an answer similar to this one :) to make sure i have not made mistake by picking AH instead of LOTR

Despite some obvious inspiration for certain mechanics, I honestly don't feel like they're even similar games, much less the same. I'm definitely liking AH more at the moment, but that's mostly because I love persistent campaign games. Well, that and we've been playing Battle of Carn Dum, which is highlighting everything I don't like about LOTR.

I do still enjoy both, but for very different reasons.
