Firstly, come on FFG, it's the Union Aerospace Corporation, not the United Aerospace Corporation. The logo is all over the place in the video game and even splattered across a bunch of Bethesda's merchandise.
Now, onto the meat of my post.
I see a massive amount of potential here and I can only hope that this game is popular enough amongst the board game community that FFG expands on it.
This new DOOM board game has such an incredible chance to become my favorite board game just because of the IP it's dealing with, and I know there was a previous DOOM game released by FFG, but it didn't quite hit home with me, mainly because it was based off of my least favorite entry in the video game franchise (not that Doom 3 was bad, just not on par with the others in MY opinion). This version is based off of not only my favorite iteration of DOOM, but my favorite video game of all time.
Being that it is a board game, I understand everything from the video game can't fit in one box, so we're probably going to get only a portion of the Demons in the game rather than all of them, maybe missing some of the staple weapons from the game, and seemingly not getting the Doom Slayer either, and that's why I'm hoping this game reaches a lot of hands and garners a lot of positivity quickly because I want it to get fleshed out to its max potential.
Even if there's only one expansion in the future, if it could contain the last few demons in the game and perhaps (ohmygawdplease) the actual Doom Slayer/Doom Marine himself rather than a generic UAC marine, I would have a gamegasm.
I'd love to see something along the lines of a two-player only expansion that gives the Doom Marine player super buffs, something akin to the Demon Runes and Weapon/Armor Upgrades featured in the video game campaign. That kind of progression system would fit perfectly into the board game to make for a really fun experience in my opinion. Imperial Assault has a basic progression system for the heroes and the Imperial player, so I don't see why it couldn't be done for DOOM.
Not only would campaign expansions work wonders, but FFG could easily replace Imperial Assault's Skirmish mode with something akin to a Deathmatch/Arena multiplayer styled mode in this game where each player controls his own team of Marines fighting for control of the power ups and weapons on the map and *gasp* the gimmicky Demon Rune power up from the video game would probably work a LOT better here in the board game. Imagine that.
I want to see this game blow up in popularity. I'm sure it's not going to sell nearly as much as Imperial Assault since it's DOOM and not Star Wars, but man, one can hope.
