Eh. I'm ok with the TIE/SF. If it's got a hyperdrive I can see it being a cool little recon rig.
The first wave I'm not really excited about...
Oh, I'm well aware of the cogs around the wings, the rear viewport and the dinky little antenna.
It's still just another cut-and-paste TIE. Saying otherwise is like saying the Black X-Wing in Heroes of the Resistance isn't just another T-70 because it's got BB8 in the back.
except they're completely different because the t-70 is still a a t-70, while the Tie/sf is a completely different ship
does still count as a tie fighter for the purposes of upgrade restrictions though
Meh, I'll let FFG themselves have the last word on the aesthetically dull TIE/sf:
" Although it looks almost identical to the TIE/fo fighter , the Special Forces TIE is an entirely different vessel..."
Edited by FTS GeckoI was pretty stoked for Collision Detectors. Free's up some design room in the dual Phantom list. Seems like a solid choice on Echo. Gonna enjoy using that card very much...
Until some chubby theme fluffing scrub decides to Seismic Torp the rock I just so cleverly decloaked over.
Here Phantoms, have a nice little boost. Now eat obstacle anyways! Mwuhahahaha!
Skrew Seismic Torps.
I think, for the lols, I'll proxy a repainted TIE Fighter as a TIE s/f and see if anyone notices.
(I'd use a TIE F/O but don't own one)

Yep. It's just another TIE Fighter.
Edited by FTS GeckoDefinitely getting 1 Fang fighter. It's going to replace Talonbane in my current list.
The TIE/sf is on my want list because it just looks awesome. While the other two ships are neat, The just don't fit in the kind of squads I want to fly, so I really don't see the need at the moment. If money were no issue, of course I'd get at least one of each, but as it is, I need to focus on ships/upgrades that directly help the lists I want to fly.

Fah!
My practiced, and perfectly loyal to the Empire and the Emperor, eyes see and appreciate the differences between it and our excellent standard TIE fighters immediately.

This wave has about the same number of ships that interest me as nearly every other wave since Wave 4, which is just one (the TIE Fighter/SF). I've managed to avoid getting a fair number of ships lately by hunting down and getting the single cards that have interested me, so it's not really something I feel is a negative. I've realised I don't have to have everything and besides, that may allow me some greater leeway when it comes to getting the big ships (I also have to fund my LOTR LCG gaming!).
Heroes of the Resistance is my biggest want at the moment, I've not been this excited for a release since the first of the TFA stuff and wish it was coming sooner.

Where is the best place to purchase singles, or actually a set of four?
No I'm not sure what I need, I'm not home.
I'm sorry to say that there's no special source for the cards, it's just ebay. I'm never especially hurried for a particular card, and so I just keep an eye on what's being sold in an auction and hope for the best. Most cards you can get eventually, with some patience. I was able to pick up virtually all the upgrade cards from the Decimator in the end for example. Not so much for the Epic cards though, Palpatine and even the TIE advanced cards (where there are 4 in the set) are still too expensive for my taste.
TIE/sf may not be mind blowing as an addition to the overall "Imperial" faction but it's a much-needed addition to the First Order.
The fang seems like finally the kind of ship I've been wanting for scum, basically what I was hoping to get with the star viper.
Arc-170 is okay, it's got its own unique feel and I'll take it over most/all of the remaining obscure EU ships rebels might get otherwise.
Shadow Caster is about as interesting as a large base ship can get, I don't love the visual design but that's not FFG's fault.
I'm definitely more interested in this wave than I was in wave 8 and about as interested as most of the rest after wave 4. I don't think a new wave will ever get me as interested as 2-4 did but that's just because there isn't much left that I actively want. Bring on the gunboats I guess :^)
I could do without the gunboats
H* the first order the st is a waste of an imperial release we could of gotten the gunboat or avenger instead.
This wave is awesome, and totally going to change the way people look at the mat.
Personally i play Imperial mostly, and am branching out into scum now, mostly focusing on brobots and slave 1. I like thematic lists, and try to keep things as close to thematic as possible. I am a collector though as well.
I will be purchasing 1 of each, with the exception being the Tie/SF which i will purchase at least two of(likely 4 after play testing). The shadow caster will likely get me to buy two as well, but i will wait to do so until we see the HOTR preview to see if we get another rigged cargo card and template in that release, as i likely wont be running two shadow casters often, if ever.

My problem with that is we do have the Starviper. That parricular design niche is filled (if poorly). Why not give us something different entirely? I don't mean to bash on the Protectorate Fighter or the Starviper, but they feel way too similar to me (disregarding point cost I mean). I suppose I can hope this means we will see a shift in the design niche for the Starviper whenever we get the alleged fix.
Personally I am picking up (at least) 4 Tie/sf. I'm really happu with the over all design (mechanically). It looks great, and it may inspire me to make some first order themed squads. May also inspire a first order gozanti.
I said from the start that the /sf is something I'd probably pick up one of, and that's still the case. The Protectorate and Arc I may get one each of for the cards (I may break out the former in a few lists, but the latter has little interest for me). The Lancer, I'm still torn on. It has some clever ideas, but I can't see myself dropping anything in a current list to fit it, or building anything with it in mind. It's something I'll probably pick up eventually, but I'm not rushing out for.
Basically, while I'm not super enthused by the whole wave, it's got decent elements. Rather than not buying it, I'm probably just not going to do my usual pre-order of multiples of almost everything (Wave 8 almost resulted in my death, upon arriving home with two boxes of ships...). I'll pick them up as they become available.

I notice the differences in the various TIE Fighters as if they were painted in international orange neon. But then I'm a self professed TIE fan boy.

I totally expect a Starviper buff to put it in a league above the Fang fighter. Hopefully access to evade like Defender or maybe white sloops would be nice.

NOPE... I needed them!
I think part of the reason I wasn't hyped at the beginning of this wave is that I got many, many upgrades for my primary squadron of TIE Bombers. Extra Munitions, Guidance Chips and Long Range Sensors open up so many doors for them to be effective death machines not to mention the Tie Shuttle Title to make one a support craft in larger games. Now that I have them all I've been winding down in satisfaction.
None of the ships when they were first spoiled got me excited right away. Even now after the Seismic Torpedoes have been spoiled the ARC is still in a meh list for me. The TIE/SF didn't catch my eye right away I wasn't sure how much different it was from the TIE/FO. When the article was released it has many of the qualities of ship that I fly which is their lack of mobility but they have some fire power. I don't normally go straight for an ace of a ship but Quick draw is just looking to be so much fun with Electronic Baffle and Rage. Destroy your foes with impunity. I'm more interested in the Scum ships now but mainly in the Shadow Caster.
There might not be as much explosives as before but there's still a few ships to add to my fleet this wave.
I don't like to be a Negative Nelly, but I have to confess that I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm an Imperial, and I am not that excited by the TIE/sf. The other stuff I won't pick up because it's not Imperial.
Frankly, while I loved TFA, I'm annoyed by the notion of crossing over stuff from the OT-era with the TFA-era. In my mind, I'm playing in the time of the Galactic Civil War in which the First Order just doesn't exist. Sure, I can conjure up some reason for why, which might include a time machine, a contraceptive and a rubber band, but... it just doesn't do it for me.
Now, I hope you Rebels and Scum have a good time. The ARC, the Fang, and the Shadow Caster look pretty neat.
You've probably nailed it ficklegreendice, especially regarding the mobile arc.
I look forward to facing each of the new ships and learning the new playstyles involved, I just don't see any must-haves for me.
My "meh" (as labeled by another thread) is probably due to being primarily an Imperial player.
Good flying all. Fly where the laser aren't.
You Imps have always been a dam-prob... why you gottah be so mean?!?!?!

Your loyalty has never been in question, and I'm sure we can sweep your doubts under the rug quietly. Your work for Imperial propaganda has been too valuable to overlook.
