The first wave I'm not really excited about...

By StarWarsDad1138, in X-Wing

Now that we've had all four Wave IX previews, I have to say I'm somewhat underwhelmed. A few upgrades have my interest piqued, but I found most of the ships largely uninteresting.

Does anyone else find this wave a little lackluster?

What are you looking forward to? What do you plan on buying and why (apart from the collector in you)?

I'm looking forward to the Shadow Caster. Interesting abilities and some stellar S&V crew. I can't wait to see brobot & [fill-in-the-blank].

I go back and forth on the Fang, but will be skipping it for now at least.

The ARC doesn't interest me, but I certainly don't see it as negatively as some here on the forums. The combination of crew & astromech should be interesting at least.

That leaves the TIE/sf. I'm not sure what I was hoping for, but that's not it. I like that the Empire is getting another ship with (effectively) 3 attack dice; I like a few of the upgrade cards. I am not impressed with the overall design. I'll probably buy two to play with, but don't see the need for more.

My count:

1x Shadow Caster (if I was still flying Scum)

2x TIE/sf

I was super excited for the TIE/sf, now I just don't care. Rebels and scum definitely came out on top... again.

I like em all. After I get the rest of Wave 8 bought (and the Assault Carrier), hopefully by the time Wave 9 hits the shelves- I will get at least one of each. I plan on getting a total of 4 Fang, 2 ARC-170, 2 TIE/sf and 1 ShadowCaster.

Fang and Shadow Caster look like amazing fun and I will absolutely be getting them ASAP.

The ARC-170 and TIE/sf don't really get my fires burning, but they do look like they offer some cool options and fun pilots.

Orange you happy to get a new Poe?

To me this is just a wave of ships to have fun with. Ships meant only for casual matches.

Order of interest -

Shadowcaster

Fang

ARC-170

TIE Special Forces

I knew there was something significant missing in the Wave 9 announcement and it was this. It was this thread.

And I'm looking forward to them all, like I welcome all new additions to this game ;)

Shadow caster and Fang fighter have interesting new mechanics or new approach to the game, regardless of them being really competitive or not.

They follow the trend of Scum getting great cheap crew upgrades and unique EPT and Illicits that multiply their versatility.

Too bad Scum isn't my favorite faction.

ARC-170 and TIE/SF belong more to Wave 2-3 than to Wave 9. They bring barrel rolls and double arcs to the table, basically. Along with pilots and upgrade cards that move between "meh" and "not worth the paper it is printed on".

And I'm looking forward to them all, like I welcome all new additions to this game ;)

The Shadow Caster is close, but not quite there. It'll be a pain on the table, during the adjustment period at least, and likely longer.

it does seem to come up every wave, doesn't it...

I'm also definitely NOT projecting doom and gloom or pronouncing anything as D.O.A.

getting closer and closer to bingo...

I wasn't saying "this wave is junk", simply that it has failed to waken any real sense of excitement. Every other wave has had something I couldn't live without. This one... not so much.

I have wanted to play Scum since I first started, which was Christmas 2015, but the ships they had available didn't suit my play style and ended up playing for the Imperials. With the release of the Fang it allows me to play the faction I love and in ships that suit my style. I like the Mechanic of the Shadowcaster, as well as it's ability to throw multiple ships around in one turn, albeit in a very select opportunity.

I really cannot wait for this wave to hit the shops. I just wish the cut back on the ridiculous guns on the ARC, those need to be scaled back.

Can't wait to get my hands on the ARC, personally.

VT and R3 should bring my Y-Wing squadron a breath of life. Not to mention what Seismic torpedoes could bring to generic X-Wings for fun.

Before the previews, I was only really interested in the ARC-170, and planned on getting two.

Following the previews, I'm now looking at one ARC-170 and maybe one Fang. I'm not in a rush to pick up either, though.

There just doesn't seem to be that much utility in thus wave. The ships are very self-sufficient, and ARC aside don't offer a great deal of new options for existing ships.

Utility shmootility. Get the fang and ARC because they're dead sexy looking :D

This is sexy wrapped in awesome and rubbed with butter.

Meh, I already have about 10 TIEs of various colours. I appreciate the game mechanics are completely different, but another palette swap is hardly inspiring.

The ARC looks vaguely interesting but no more than that. The Tie/SF seems really uninspired. It looks hard to fly in a way that gets mileage out of its abilities. I don't fly Scum so the Fang and Shadowcaster are of no interest to me.

The kindest thing I can say about Wave 9 is that I won't have to buy ships I don't want just to get the upgrade cards. <_<

The TIE/sf is a really interesting ship to fly. I tried a Quickdraw, Backdraft, Specialist and Wampa list on Vassal and it did some interesting things.

I'm really looking forward to the Fang too.

The tail gunner expansion may be interesting in itself too, but right now, I just want it for Scum Kath.

The Shadowcaster looks novel, but I don't see ever wishing for two of them at this point.

This toöic should also be in bingo

Yeah I said before I wasn't interested and now everything's been shown I'm still not, sf and arc are meh and the scum ships are okay but I don't need either.

So yeah first wave I'm not buying anything from.

I'm wildly excited about the Fang, it's the ship I've always wanted for the Scum. And, to be honest, the ship I've wanted in general, something that actively rewards by tendency towards rushing forwards to joust at Range 1. I'll be picking up 2 immediately, then probably 1 or 2 more...

The ARC and TIE/sf both seem pretty great, and I've always enjoyed flying the Firespray so more auxiliary rear arcs are good by me. The ARC is going to be my go-to Rebel stress dealer I think, and both of the named /sf pilots have caught my eye. Probably getting 1 of each, then picking up a second of each once I've got a bit of spare cash.

The Lancer is probably the ship I'm the least excited by, although the mobile arc seems pretty cool. I'm interested to see what the generic costs, and how the Gyro-whateveritis works. I'll be getting 1 at release, but I can't see myself wanting or needing more than that.
