The Problems With This Preview Article

Why has nobody pointed this error out?

"its triple laser turret could have been represented in the game by either a 360-degree firing arc, as with several other turreted ships like the Millennium Falcon and VT-49 Decimator."

THEY DONT HAVE 360 DEGREE ARCS. This is like newb-o mistake numero uno, and you just reinforced it with your dumb article.

It's shorthand for "360 degree auxiliary firing arc" I would guess.

still really incorrect

firing out of arc != 360 arc

stuff like thrusters and crackshot really care

because its much easier to say than "ships that have a primary weapon capable of firing in all directions even outside of their firing arc"

because its much easier to say than "ships that have a primary weapon capable of firing in all directions even outside of their firing arc"

'Primary weapon turret' is too much tech talk for the article I guess.

How about: "its triple laser turret could have been represented in the game by either the ability to fire outside it's primary firing arc, as with several other turreted ships..."

I think the section that mentions Ketsu's ability to deal with two opponents using the Shadow Caster Title is flawed.

From the article:

Combined with the Shadow Caster Title upgrade, then, Ketsu Onyo can use her ship's tractor beam projector to completely nullify as many as two enemy attacks by slamming her foes onto nearby rocks, or by boosting them so they no longer have her within their firing arcs.

Ketsu's Ability:

At the start of the Combat phase , you may choose a ship at Range 1. If it is inside your primary and mobile firing arcs , assign 1 tractor beam token to it.

Title:

After you perform an attack that hits, if the defender is inside your mobile firing arc and at Range 1-2, you may assign the defender 1 tractor beam token .

In the example given, the Tie Interceptor in both Ketsu's primary and mobile arc is affected by her ability. It then suggests that the Tie Punisher behind her is affected by the Shadow Caster Title's ability.

Only problem is:

The Punisher wasn't the defender, the Interceptor was.

Am I missing something here?

Yeah re-reading the article, they don't say either of the TIEs are the target. They just say which one gets effected by each card effect.

Interceptor gets hit by Ketsu's ability, Punisher is shot at and shadow cast.

I remember something about in the now Legends canon that Ventress faked her death and had the pilot of the ship fly as far away from the Clone Wars as possible. So if she did die in the current canon then that means there's still a few things from the Legends canon getting into X-Wing.

Oddly a good thing to have happen Yes?

They're all Galactic Civil War era pilots.

Ventress died in the Clone Wars.

NEXT UP ON THE NITPICK EXPRESS:

The first card that is unusable with just the ship it comes with and the Core Set:

swx56-ig-88d.png

You need the Aggressor expansion to use it.

But this way you can get the synergy with only one Aggressor and one Shadow Caster. You're not forced to buy two Aggressors if you don't want to.

I LOVE this card!

Pair Houndstooth with IG-88B.

Good times.

There are a large number of pilots in the game that died before Poe was born. You can't really nitpick individual bits of temporal inconsistencies because the entire game is one.

Some, while no t confirmed as dead, have not appeared since TCW - Latts Razzi, Moralo Eval.

A non-comprehensive list of characters who died early in this game:

Died before Episode IV:

Asajj Ventress

The Inquisitor

Dead by the end of Episode IV:

Raymus Antilles (dies before Luke even meets Obi-Wan)

Biggs Darklighter

Dutch Vander

Garven Dreis

Jek Porkins

Backstabber

Mauler Mithel

No one made zombie remarks when they put Darth Vader in the game... Just saying

Well, Vader did survive death to become a super cool force ghost. And then for some reason he had a ghost lift to look 30 years younger. Maybe Force ghost Vader is flying that advanced?!

Isn't Biggs walks the dogs total necromancy? Biggs was dead before B-Wings hit the scenes...

Well new canon had a bwing in Rebels, so thats no longer true

Still waiting for the rest of the dead Y-wing Yavin guys Tiree and pops. And Dac, Luke's gunner, and Zev Senesca.

Died before any non-Scum faction existed:

  • Asajj Ventress

It's not actually possible to use Ventress in a match without a time travel plot unless you're playing Scum vs Scum. Every other pilot and crew can be used to their canonical context with a decent supply of game components if you so choose.

It's her clone. If they can make a whole video game around that kind of plot then it can work for this game. Also please never bring up time travel and SW.

Soon Ventress can fight ARC-170s, that's close enough to the CW. Throw in Y-wings, Z-95s and beat up 30+ year old tramp freighters and you're set. Empire can use Firesprays and maybe shuttles. Because fluff is so important.

You'll care when they add zombie Geonosians in the Nantex Starfighter expansion.

Not criticizing your point, but I would hardly call Force Unleashed II a "whole" videogame, or its plot anything close to working.

Ugh that game still infuriates me.

.As of Wave 9 X-Wing has 197 pilot cards. 197. Yes, I did count all the cards just for the purpose of this comedicy nitpicky post.

But still, 197.

While we are at the topic of nitpicking.

As of Wave 9 i am counting 205 different Pilots. Somewhere you lost 8 Pilots ;)

And including HotR i am counting 213 different Pilots.
