GENCON Hyp Train

By KennedyHawk2, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I thought they'd use thrawn and Mara to replace tarkin and Vader, fulfilling the same roles but with the freedom of not having their endings already written.

Thrawn is now canon but Dave Filoni at Celebration said that they weren't adding Mara Jade, at the very least not this season. So we will have to wait to see if she makes it into next season or finds her way back into canon through a book, or comic.

Already who is left for notable rebel allies besides a new luke and han?

Yoda, Nien Nunb, Admiral Ackbar, Wedge, General Madine, Mon Mothma, the whole Rebels crew (Kanan, Zeb, Ezra, Chopper, Hera, Sabine), the new characters from the Sequels (Finn, Rey, Poe, BB-8), Mace, Qui-Gon Jinn, young Obi-Wan...

Oh god I hope you are joking. Mon Mothma the leader of the Rebellion with a team of randos fighting stormtroopers? REALLY?!

Characters from Episode 7? This is IMPERIAL Assault, not First Order Assault.

Mace? Qui-gon? They weren't even alive during the Rebellion!

You asked "Already who is left for notable rebel allies besides a new luke and han?"

I gave a lot of examples....and you focus on the ones who aren't 'suitable' according to you. Fine. Here are some characters who were alive during the rebellion (and are suitable to fight troopers):

Yoda, Nien Nunb, Admiral Ackbar, Wedge, General Madine, Kanan, Ezra, Hera, Sabine, Chopper, Zeb (all these already mentioned), plus Dash Rendar and Kyle Katarn (if they go EU), Ahsoka Tano, Sato, Airen Cracken.....

Plenty to choose from.

Nar Shadaa... Nar Shadaa!

I want a real cloak and dagger element, Bespin was a good start, but, in the words of Oliver "Can I have some more?".

The smugglers moon is so full of character and life, there are many missions that can be creative and provide a real story driven campaign.

I know what the new expansion is gonna be...so I hope they gonna spoil it on Gencon

See? This guy gets it. Lets see something original for once. Not just ___ movie.

While I have not much interest for Rebels and never watched it, from a Game Perspective, I hope that the Big Box will be Rebels or Rogue One. Endor and the Palace don't warrant a new Tileset, in Fact there are already Skirmish Missions on Endor using the Forest Tile (Endor Wilderness, Rebel Saboteurs). I'd also like to play those Wave 7 Figures in an official Campaign where it makes sense (They might have ditched the Timeline Rule, but I'll still use it).

I am hoping for the App, of course. That's my biggest wish. I think there is already a lot of variation, it's already hard to get to the table to play all those Heroes :)

I would expect Jabba's Palace to be a big box - the Rancor has got to make an appearance! I'm betting on the Sarlaac pit being a tile, so there would likely be more tiles like Jabba's palace and his Barge too.

That said, what are they going to do for Endor? It was a big battle essentially - Hoth was too and that left out AT-ATs and snowspeeders for good reason. Another AT-ST seems unlikely, so unit-wise we have Ewoks, rebel commando's and Biker Scouts (minus bikes?) Oh and the technicians in the bunker. The Emperor put "An entire legion of my finest troops", so maybe a more elite stormtrooper version? It was all about the AT-STs on Endor and they already gave us that so I'm not sure...

I think Endor is a small box. Emperor, speeder bike x2, rebel commando (separate pack), Ewok swarms (6-8), two Heroes, no mercenary units.

Jabba's Palace should be the big box, but hopefully take place part Tattooine and part city planet. Rancor, Gamorreans, hopefully Gran with thermal detonator, weequay pirates, and some type of imperial police unit for the city planet.

More elite stormtroopers. Maybe the 501st. The problem with that is, then the Ewoks would probably be tougher too. I cannot abide the idea of an Ewok being better than a Stormtrooper. They better come three to a base and a unit of 3. Even then they need to be holding blasters. Also, the BoE would give a chance to have the Imperial Army troops that others have wanted.

I don't think Kyle Katarn survived the EU purge. I think he's been gender-bendered into that, so far, stupid character for Rogue One.

I know I'm a minority here, but I really hope we don't see the Emperor. I know all the skirmish players want him. He doesn't fit in the game. Just like I don't think Mon Mothma fits. This is squad level combat. I don't think Thrawn would be good either. We know that Darth Vader gets into the weeds from time to time, but the Emperor isn't going to go out on the battlefield. Are the heroes going to be able to kill him? I don't think we need speeder bikes either. There is just no room for them on the IA scale. I do think we will see Gamorreans (for goodness sake we have Ugnauts), and probably a mix of pirates. I said in an early conversation, I'd like to see the next box expand the story of how Han got to Jaba's Palace. The heroes are the initial force that have to pursue the competing Bounty Hunters who are trying to get Han. Maybe the last mission could be helping Lando infiltrate the palace. So long as 4-LOM and Zuckuss are in it, I'm good.

Well according to the radio play of RotJ, mara jade was undercover at jabbas.

Yes, that is true. Whether FFG will be allowed to include her is another matter. It all depends on who Rey's mother is. If they've decided that Luke had a wife and she is gone now, and that it was Mara Jade, we might see her.

Come on FFG just get it over with and dissapoint me already...

Things I don't want in this game:

1) Anything Prequels. While I don't hate everything prequels era (especially Cad Bane), it is a completely different era and just doesn't feel right.

star-wars-gif.gif

2) Non-Battlefield Leaders. I love Thrawn, but he belongs in Armada, not Imperial Assault. Admiral Ackbar... are you kidding me? You can make a case for Yoda and the Emperor, because without a doubt they can fight - but it still feels weird.

3) Nakedy women. This game is very family friendly (I have 5 kids) and I hope they keep it that way, it's extremely rare to find a miniatures games where women have clothes on.

4) Luuke and the other dumb EU things. Not all EU is crap, but some of it is.

Things I want in this game:

1) Terrain diversity. I don't care so much if it's Endor, though that would be nice, but I love the fact that the terrain tokens are so diverse right now that most of the time you can tell what expansion something belongs to by just looking at it.

2) Rebels. They are canonically part of the story of the Galactic Civil War and also give us Ahsoka, but most importantly they give us Hondo Ohnaka - who I really want to see show up as a Scum leader.

***INTERMISSION***

Let us all pause and reflect on some of the deep thoughts of Hondo Ohnaka:

tumblr_inline_mk0k1fYE2I1qz4rgp.gif

Hondo:Even a Sith Lord is no match for my warriors. He put up quite a fight. Blasters, cannons, that glowy thing, voom-voom…
Obi-wan Kenobi:You mean a lightsaber?
Hondo:That’s it.”

As my sweet mother always said, ‘Son, if one hostage is good, two are better. And three, well, that’s good business.’

But you know what I always say: Speak softly and drive a big tank.

Hey! Hey! Someone scrape that guy off the floor. He sprung a leak.

I may not be as young as I once was, but I’m older.

Hondo:And I may be a pirate, but I do not like taking children into battle.”
Ahsoka:That didn’t seem to bother you when you attacked us.”
Hondo:Well, today is a new day, and lucky for you, today, I like children.”

Oh! The thanklessness! What an accusation! I am gone! I will send you my bill!

Maul:Filth, you will pay for your insolence.”
Hondo:Insolence! We are pirates! We don’t even know what that means!

Oh, the stories I could tell. So many of them true.”

Hondo:Does this mean I am not getting my finder’s fee?
Ezra:You never were.
Hondo:Perfect answer. I am so proud of you right now. I’ve never had a student learn this quickly.

***INTERMISSION CONCLUDED***

3) Rogue One and any other Galactic Civil War Movies. Rogue One looks amazing and gives us a lot of cool characters, like old Saw Gerrera!!!! (The young one was annoying to me). If we rely on the OT only for characters, like Patrick said we are going to run out quickly if we haven't already.

saw-gerrera-rogue-one.jpg?w=474

Things I could take or leave:

1) Good EU stuff. There are some cool EU characters and while I'm not dying to see them in this game, it would be a pleasant surprise. Imperial Assault has a very EU type of feel to it, so why not? But please, can we stay away from clones, okay?

dash-rendar.jpg 970b87bd35b6edcd79282ffec7d3550c.jpg

2) Post-Galactic Civil War. If they put it in, okay, if not - okay. I understand this is Imperial Assault not First Order Assault, but the First Order rose from the ashes of the Empire and while that doesn't make them the same there are admittedly a whole lot of similarities. But more importantly than all of that, the only way we will ever get the greatest Star Wars character of all time is if they allow Post-Galactic Civil War content.

I'd be just as happy if the new Mara Jade never got with Luke.

Wait...

You now what it will be?

Please tell us!

@Boba rick, I don't have enough upvotes to give that post. Is this hondo guy in rebels? I've been thinking about watching it but have been dissuaded partially by my distaste for clone wars. Just couldn't get into the story telling style.

Hondo was a good character in The Clone Wars. He was one of the few characters with any depth. He has been turned into a bubbling buffoon in Rebels. But Rebels is a kiddie show, so it isn't that surprising. Yes, there are a couple decent moments in Rebels, but 90% of the time I've groaned more than I've been the least be engaged. There were groan inducing moments in Clone Wars, and I wasn't partial to some of the lore, but it was far and away better than Rebels.

I agree that so far he's not as good in Rebels as he was in Clone Wars, but I still like him and there's time for him to get better.

A kiddie show in which heroes have their eyes cut out, Inquisitors are cut apart and blown up, and Minister Tua gets carbombed. Even though it can be juvenile at times, Rebels still tells some decent stories, and Episode IV was hardly more believable.
