Seismic Torpedoes! Remove obstacles!

By Dagonet, in X-Wing

And im still waiting on that upgrade card that makes large ships squirm when they see it.

Theres literally no reason to take a small ship over a large unless you are playing imperials and have aces, course then again the imperial large ships are easily the lousiest in the game so thats not saying much. Best rebel ships? Large ships (or are surprisingly a small ship ala kwing). Best scum? ALL their large ships are insane, even the firespray is pretty good its just never seen because its overshadowed by the bs they could take instead.

there needs to be some upgrade cards that do zilch or close to zilch to small ships but royally piss off large ships (MIRV missiles come to mind, 3-4 dice, after modding your dice double the results if attacking a large ship). Theres plenty of crap that aggravate small ships and dont do a bloody thing to large, but none the other way around.

As a joke, we used:

"Gjallahorn" - Epic ship only - Unique

range: 3 - 5

Dice: 4

Attack - Target Lock: Discard this card to perform this attack. The defender cannot spend evade tokens during this attack.

Mod: Wolfpack rounds

After you perform a secondary missile weapon attack, if the attack hits, add two hit results and assign one each to another ship/s at range 1 of the defender. Any excess hit results not allocated are then re-allocated to the original defender.

It was erm. . . a little bit brutal to isolated ships, which we found large ships to be most of the time.

Help?

Sorry I can't find it, I didn't read all seven pages of this topic though and I'm not near my game kit.

Wasn't there an expansion, perhaps the Decimator or YT-2400, that creates debris?

If you know of it please let me know, thanks.

maybe a mission, but nothing added debris to the field until now.

Decimator and YT2400 both come with tournament legal debris fields which can be used instead of asteroids. Neither adds debris to games in progress though, they provide options for setup.

Maybe I'm loosing it but I thought there was a mission that what a certain ship (can't recall which one) destroyed another it could opt to leave debris. Maybe the Raider or Decimator. I'll have to look at the missions again.

Found it

Mission 11: Interdiction.

It came with the Decimator and a special rule Total Annihilation . "When the VT-49 Decimator destroys a ship, the Imperial player places one of the debris cloud obstacle tokens in the play are such that at least part of the debris cloud overlaps the base of the destroyed ship.

That should have been a card/upgrade :)

Who knows, they might be testing.

if jammers worked on small ships you'd probably see a lot of use out of it. Even bareboned large ships are the first thing to die usually, but a basic TIE can easily go ignored for quite some time.

Granted, would have to have a higher price tag for small ships for that very reason (13pt academy bumpers that also grant you bonus dice!). 3pts i think would be fine since you know its only going to be used on speedbump ships anyway.

Actually, I'd kinda have liked Seismics to work this way against asteroids...so killing an asteroid creates debris, and killing debris clears the space...but both with the same splash-damage effect

...might have sat well with Collision Detector, ignoring the debris crit roll

Next option: Firespray w/ Slave I title.

Blast a rock to damage and enemy. Next round, move forward past where the rock used to be, and drop a debris field back in place using Rigged Cargo Chute.

I just realized that the Seismic Torpedoes are Primary Arc only. So much for a VCX-100 launching them out its special arc.

Don't know why they did this...isn't the VCX the only ship able to launch torps in another direction...and if the shuttle isn't fitted, the one that could make the most use of the seismic to try for [damage on] small-bases attacking from the rear ?

Missed opportunity :( as really can't see [m]any more ships having alternate Torp launch arcs...

Nera Dantels can do it.

LAME!

I think I found a use for a Torpedo Slot on my Y-Wing in HotAC. :)

I did that in my b-wing in HotAC, i fired the torpedo on an ion storm cloud, turns out that storm cloud was where the escape pod was, so my pilot was probably like "hey, they were dead before i fired the torpedo"

Seismic torps, they're all fun and games until the only things they damage are your ships and don't hit a fat space cow sitting right next to the asteroid
