The Shadow Caster is Full of surprises... Apparently

By Pimpbacca, in X-Wing

So if we take two of these we can dump 4 pieces of trash on the map. Man that's going to be fun with 10 things on the board. I wonder if that is going to be a strag to combat everything.

Do hope someone makes acrylic versions of this...not sure I fancy buying 4 ships...although if it doesn't turn out to be that popular, I guess it might be possible to buy the tokens from websites that specialise in selling components

Is it just me or this is the wave with the least amount of spoiled dials in a long time (one) ?

**** FFG, why u hate Vassal? :(

Personally, it bugs me when people play the ships on Vassal months before the official release, so I'm glad they've kept back more dials this time.

Just curious: why does it bother you ?

Good question. I'm really in no position to tell people what they should or shouldn't do, but for my part, I only use what I own when I use Vassal. If the product isn't released, then nobody owns it yet, so it seems dishonest to me to use the unreleased content. And then you've got a bunch of players playing with stuff and announcing what is good in the expansion and what isn't good before most players have even had a chance to hold the ship in their hands. That also bothers me. Again, people pronounce judgment freely, before they've even played it anyway, but once people have games to back up their views, it starts the group-think before people even play with the ships.

I beat a Vessery, Omega Leader, Tomax Bren list with R3 Astro Luke, R3 Astro Wes and Ten Numb on vassal. Think we can conclude R3 Astro is pretty amazing. :P

I can feel you though. If you don't have the cards, how can you justify using them? But, I think you just have to look at vassal or TTS as a giant proxy-ville. Everyone is playing with printouts.

And don't forget- you are missing a huge piece of the game with vassal- the physical model, which, imo, is where the heavy majority of the value of the expansions really sits.

For me any revealed upgrade is game for proxying. Pilot cards and ships themselves have to wait for release.

If I wasn't already addicted to keeping an Outlaw Tech on my G1-A's, I'd say Latts on 4-LOM would be nice since I'm usually knife-fighting with him anyway.

Ditch their stress for an evade result, give them the stress I took earlier from a red at end phase; it's the neighborly thing to do.

DISLIKE. More anti small ship tech. No anti large ship tech. Large ship buff: kill the rocks! If you're so bad as to get on them.

Definitely a 6k post well spent. Whew.

This is another thing I don't really get.

I mean tournaments is written right there in the rules so anyone participating is expected to have the cards, but in a casual game, why would anyone be bothered that the guy across the table running Palp doesn't have a raider tucked in some drawer at home ?

Why there is Asajj Ventress as a pilot? I thought that XWMG is set into era of Rebels and Episode IV till Episode VII. Asajj died during Clone Wars.

I don't recall an episode of The Clone Wars where she died.

Someone said on Facebook there is a canon occurrence of her flying a Lancer after she becomes a bounty hunter.

Ironically in the example showing how the cargo chute works, they chose Tycho as the pilot who was countered by dropping the debris cloud. Tycho doesn't give a flying fart in space about flying through debris.

I almost feel like they intentionally threw that in to see who's paying attention.

I also marvel at the people who say Tycho doesn't care at all about debris clouds, stress doesn't matter. Stress doesn't, but roll a few Crits when you fly through them you might start to care

Ysanne doesn't work if you're stressed, she only works if you've lost half your hitpoints

5/16 < 1/2

And IGD on Moralo Eval with a Mangler and Bossk and Gunner flying with IGB is going to be HORRIFIC.

Why spend the points 5 points on Gunner for Moralo?

Because Soontir then has to evade three shots before he's safe. Note that unlike Gunner and Luke, IGB *doesn't* stop you shooting again.

So you shoot with a primary, miss, trigger both upgrades, resolve IGB, then Gunner. Pain, all the pain, lots of pain.

counterpoint:

Gunner says "...you may immediately perform another attack..."

Triggering Gunner and then resolving a different trigger instead doesn't sound like "immediately" to me. It's possible that by not doing Gunner immediately, you are forgoing the chance to use the Gunner trigger from the first shot.

Now if you miss with the IG-B shot, you could trigger Gunner off of that shot and actually use it, but I don't think you could use this combo to set up two attacks that hit.

12.5% chance of that happening is hardly a worry. But yes, when it does happen, it stinks.

meh

Overall, the Ghost is a better ship for similar cost.

It has:

> 4-attack

> more hitpoints so it lives longer

> system slot

> extra crew slot

Wave 9 is mostly a fluff wave

Asajj Ventresse died in Dark Disciple - novel which is canon.

Ah. I meant to read that one and then it fell off my radar. I'll definitely have to check it out now.

Its comparing apples to oranges. Besides the fact that theyre different factions, you completely left off the strengths the shadowcaster has over he ghost:

Mobile turret

Actually has agility

2 illicit slots

Ability to tractor opponents simply by hitting with its primary (or without attacki g at all for ketsu)

Actually has pilots with an ept slot

I think the word 'immediately' is old language that really had no bearing on the order of things, since you had to always Shoot, then Vader, then Gunner, then Vader.

Yuo are correct though that you do not trigger both abilities on the initially missed shot, as in Step 9 of the timing chart, you only get to choose 1 ability to resolve that performs another attack. If you choose Gunner, you lose the second HLC, because Gunner prevents subsequent attacks. If you choose the second HLC, it would have to miss to then trigger Gunner. If the second HLC hits, then Gunner no longer has a trigger.

The Valonqar killed her

Anyone else notice that the laser cannon to the left of the cockpit is bent out of shape in the spinning model?

Pretty sure this is the idea. It's an expensive approach, to be sure, but it lets you perform up to three high powered attacks against a target. Barring the need to have multiple dice modifications available, very few ships would be unscathed after such an onslaught. But like I said, it's an expensive insurance policy.

How about this list to generate 3 Stress off Prim/Sec then IgD with sec then gunner. So if you dont hit you do 3 stress or do a crit :)
