Aside from the Academy Pilot.
It seems the EPT slot is essential for tournament play, maybe it would be better it FFG stop printing ships without it.

First of all there is such a thing as people playing games besides Tournament play.
And yes. Pilots without EPT are seen, besides the Academy Pilot, I have seen B-Wings, A-wings, Z-95, K-Wing and Phantoms at tournaments over the last few month.
try playing epic .... lots of generic fighters
Gold Squadron Y-wing, bandits, and tala Zs (and their scum counterparts), Blue squadron B-wing, Prototype A-wing, Bombing Warden K-wing, Lothal Rebel, Omnicron Group Pilot, Tie Shuttle Scimitar or alpha strike scimitar/gamma sq, Acc Corrector Tie Adv, Delta Sq. Defenders, Trandoshan Slaver Party bus...
So, ya, a lot of generics without EPTs that are fine.
Now NAMED pilots without an EPT... THAT needs to change. Biggs is the only one seen consistently.
Yes

Well, and ones without EPTs at all: Miranda, Yorr, and the occasional Ghost, for example. Though that's probably unfair.
Yes, plenty. Academy Pilots, Z95s, K Wings, VCXs, A Wings, Y Wings, are probably the most common and I think TIE Defenders and potentially bombers will be joining the ranks in upcoming tourneys.
Certainly quite a lot of them are just too expensive to bother, but plenty of them aren't.
I do it plenty. I'm not interested in tournaments, though.

WHO DAT IZ...
Yes. Paul Heaver.
Edited by FTS GeckoIt's ok that a lot of ships have no EPT, so it's still something special when a ship has one
I have no idea about tournaments, but I use lots of generics in my games.

it's not
the idea that ships are viable based entirely on their ept slot is a massive fallacy. Rather, it's a combination of things they have access to
Jm5ks are exceptionally viable due to a combination deadeye + salvaged + g-chips + double torpedo slots (i.e ALL their upgrade slots apart from illicit, which can be feedback array, and crew slot)
even Crackswarm wouldn't be the same without Howlrunner
Edited by ficklegreendiceNo, but if there were high ps generics I probably would. I'm more interested in shooting first than I am pushing the limit at ps3.

This is the important part: Ships are good because of their base design, points cost, upgrade options, and synergy with other ships.
* Base design - Decimators are meant to be fat-ass hard hitting turret ships. That;s what they're used for
* Points cost - The generic B wing (Blue Squadron) is very efficient and 4BZ uses this to great effect, as does the basic Academy pilot TIE fighter
* Upgrade options - Omega Leader is superb with his upgrades, as is the Stresshog Y wing, or the contracted scout (And also all the other JM-5Ks, they're also pretty good!)
* Synergy - Howlrunner, Biggs, Palp-shuttle and more. These all massively benefit their squad due to their bonuses inherent in their ability.
Now, an EPT can give great benefits - some ships wouldn't be the same without them such as the contracted scout or the Black Squadron TIE with crack shot. However, an EPT is not really everything. In fact, the extra cost applied to a ship when given an EPT is not always a good thing: I think the Glaive Squadron defender is a great example of this. It's arguably worse than the basic Delta because it's more expensive and although you can run crack shot, juke, push the limit, predator, etc, you lose out on some great things, such as unblockable white 4K's (as long as you prepare for them the previous turn) and great blocking ability, as well as consistent defence that's just as good as the Glaive's.
I personally love Deltas, and Black Sun Enforcers. No EPT slot to be found.
Prototype pilots are great for 15 points. I love fitting one in where I can.
The days of TLT/Stressbot Y-Wings weren't THAT long ago, surely?
I use low PS generics myself all the time. In fact, non-EPT, low PS generics have been my tournament-winning squads. Quantity over quality.

Sorry should have made it clear I meant named pilots piloting ships that have other pilots with EPTs.

Um, what?
