Getting ready for my first tournament

By StriderZessei, in X-Wing

I'm getting ready for a tournament in a couple of weeks, and my friend who was present for it a few weeks ago said the top three lists were:

1. Wedge, Wes, and Corran

2. Biggs, Kaanan, and Ezra in the attack shuttle (my friend's list)

3. Three attack shuttles with Juke

I don't have much experience playing against any of these lists, and don't want to make a complete and utter fool of myself.

So my question is, considering I don't know the exact lists there, which of my lists will fare better? Furthermore, could I make changes to either of these lists to improve their chances?

1.- Dash Rendar (58) YT-2400 Freighter (36), Push the Limit (3), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Kanan Jarrus (3), Outrider (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

-Lothal Rebel (42) VCX-100 (35), Fire-Control System (2), Autoblaster Turret (2), Hera Syndulla (1), Han Solo (2)

100 pts. total

--or--

2. - The Inquisitor (35) TIE Advanced Prototype (25), Push the Limit (3), TIE/v1 (1), Autothrusters (2)

-Soontir Fel (35) TIE Interceptor (27), Royal Guard TIE (0), Push the Limit (3), Autothrusters (2), Stealth Device (3)

-Omicron Group Pilot (33) Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Sensor Jammer (4), Emperor Palpatine (8)

99 pts. total

Gonna say you should take the imperial list if only to give imperials a good showing. How rebels are so dominant is interesting considering they are hurting in most regions. Perhaps you are in the west, Colorado maybe? Rebels seem to be more popular in that region.

Palp Aces should perform well against most of those lists if you are comfortable with the dials and a decent arc dodger.

I rec the Palp Aces too. Although, I'm really not a fan of Inq.

I would run with your Palp aces, but considering the new defenders, your local meta and uboots, I would consider switching to Reinforced Deflectors on the shuttle or even taking Jax over the Inquisitor.

Well, at least if I want to keep with most of your Palp aces version. I actually went with my Whisper, OL, Yorr last tournament, which is a total different flavor of Palp aces. Turns out that is the mynock special now and uses Kallus as crew on whisper, I wish I would have used him instead of intelligence agent. *grin*

Speaking of different flavors of palp aces: Wampa is super strong against corran horn and attack shuttles. They suffer greatly from only having 2 hull against a ship which can ignore their defense and shields every attack if Palp is used on that attack. In that case you run Wampa, OL and the Inquisitor together with a palp shuttle.

What do you prefer over Inq?

Vader with VI and Engine.

Most try hard list ever.

Rewards good decision making and some patience. Rewards a really good understanding of damage math.

Brings the highest PS to the table with a bid, so almost every game you'll be going last and that won't change during a tournament. Making it easier to focus for a long day.

Hull in case you run into auto damage like Vader or Autoblaster.

Darth Vader (29)

Veteran Instincts (1)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)
Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Royal Guard TIE (0)
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Emperor Palpatine (8)
Total: 99

Play something you're experienced with, good with, and enjoy playing, with the last being the most important consideration. Best advice for any tourney.

I second this. If you are lack experience playing against certain lists, you don't want to be worried about remembering your own abilities, so play something that you are comfortable playing. That way you can save all your concentration for figuring out how to deal with your opponent.
