Clarification on Tie Phantom (or any ship) when "Cloaked"

By Frustr8tedInc, in X-Wing

1. Can the Tie Phantom be attacked while cloaked? I assume 'yes' since it is given two more agility when cloaked. This action is not stated EXPLICITLY, just implied by giving two more agility to the cloaked ship

2. If Question 1 is correct, what's the point of being cloaked if you can be attacked WHILE CLOAKED? So, I'm not really invisible, my enemy can see my cloak "shimmer", and therefore my enemy is allowed to fire in my general direction? Does that seem wrong to anyone else? By definition, cloaking should allow me to be hidden and invisible. Instead, I'm blurry and hard to see? Hmmmmm....kind of a letdown if you ask me.

Thank you!

1. Yes you can still be attacked when cloaked.

2. The point of cloaking even though you can still be attacked is to get that agility bonus and to be able to decloak. The movement from decloaking opens up a lot of opportunities because it can cover a lot of distance quickly and helps to make your ship less predictable. Thematically, your enemy is shooting at where he believes you to be (the agility bonus) and when you decloak you are revealing where you really were.

The "Blink in, blink out" combat style of cloaked ships means your pilots generally know where a phantom was a second ago* when it cloaked, and can thus make a pretty good guess of the rough area it is now that they're firing.

*In the case of a phantom with Advanced Cloaking Device, only a fraction of a second.

Shooting a ship that's stayed cloaked over several turns is a bit of a mechanics>fluff moment, but in most cases the mechanic makes sense and does a pretty good job of replicating how Rookie One fought them in their debut (Or so I gather- I never played Rebel Assault).

Cloak represents you being obscured to the point that you're actually a 2-straight template away from where they think you are

Except echo because she's extra good at it

Well, I agree with you. Phantoms are hot garbage- especially Whisper who can shoot first then cloak for free. We need FFG to actually make cloaking work so people actually use them.

If they made it you couldn't be shot at while cloaked, and with a 4 dice primary attack, that would be broken.

Especially in tournament play. People would cloak and if losing never decloaks. Then what fly in circles?

Yeah. Maybe we should change the decloak to the beginning of the combat phase … or something like that.

I think he doesn't realize you get 2 extra green dice when you're cloaked.

Yes.

This is it.

Make it like this and I might consider running both Whisper and Echo. Just the two of them.

Probably not a competitive list but would be fun as heck...
