Non-Tournament X-Wing at GenGon

By Chris Maes, in X-Wing

So, are there any non-tournament X-Wing games at GenCon? I mean, 100v100 + 6 rocks are fun and all... Epic tournaments better... And Team Epic tournaments better yet...

But how about something less...limited? I mean, something with a purpose, story, background, objectives... in short, "meaning". I enjoy all of the above, but I want... MORE.

So, is there any of that going on? 'cuz I sure haven't heard any talk of it.

Nothing that I have seen, mind you last time I looked for games on Gen Con site was a month ago. While I would love to play a game or two of X-Wing at Gen Con I still think I'm too new to the game to not become a burden to my opponent.

But that's kind of the point! ... to enjoy a game , make a friend nad generally have a good time going "pew-pew" with toy spaceships. Or have I missed the point of XWM, somehow?

There are non tournament special type Xwing actually. Multiple Death Star runs. A star destroyer assault. Various oddball events. Wife and I tried for a hunger games event but it sold out immediately.

Most of this stuff is sold out now though if you hunt you might find something.

Also, team epic is no-tournament and FFG.

Yeah, not sure how you're searching, but there are a bazillion Death Star Trench run events, though they sold out faster than the NA Championship.

Nah, I never spent that much time looking, since I cannot attend. Mostly, I was just curious as to what the support for non-tournament X-wing was at the mega-conventions like Origins or GenCon. It has been ages since I was able to attend either one. Glad to hear that it is not only supported but very popular.

Two years ago a couple came by my table during the tournament and I asked if they played, and they enthusiastically told me about their growing collection and their new Huge ships. So we set a time to come back later in the evening and we played through the entire CR90 campaign Thursday and Friday night. Several others had pick up games in the evening using the new ships they had just picked up in the exhibit hall. I was too late to get the Decimatior and YT-2400, so all I got was a 3rd TIE defender, and it was fun to put them all on the table during the campaign.

It was a blast! It's easy to find people that want to play, I think.
