Bounty Hunters vs. Jedi and avoiding intra-party conflict?

By Finster, in Game Masters

So why does everyone assume that it is the Bounty Hunter's imperative to not turn in the so called Jedi? I ask because I view it as the Force Users responsibility to maintain their cover, put another way if a PC were playing an Imperial Spy would it still be on a Party member to not turn them into a Crime boss for a reward. I would embrace the incoming PvP because it lets the characters grow while resolving the issue. Also the pay for a force sensitive is extremely good and since I mes with players that commit crime on a regular basis ie Smugglers and Thugs type characters. I wouldn't **** over a Bounty Hunter on this since it seems to me that in universe the Empire does honor its bounties.

The same imperative that compels people not to make Lawful Stupid Paladin-types in a party made up completely of criminals, or vicious elf-hating orcs in a party full of pointy ears. Because this is (for the most part) a cooperative game, and dicking over the other players is annoying. Far from 'resolving the issue', it makes it a hell of a lot worse as the party devolves into infighting.

If scr*wing over other Players turns you on maybe RPG'ing isn't for you go play a PvP MMO or fire up CoD.

These are all great ideas but I would just tell the bounty hunter player not to start trouble at the table

Just a quick thought here. The Empire has twisted the idea of Jedi and Force users into something foul. They preach that the it was the Jedi who tried to overthrow the Republic, blamed the Jedi for the clones and the Clone war. They even had Jedi leading both sides! To the mass public Jedi and Force users are something evil and dangerous. The Empire is using a "Mein Kompf" strategy blaming the Jedi (Jews) for all the problems in the Galaxy. But not everyone thinks this or believes this. Most of the galactic citizens had never seen a a real Jedi or Force user before, and may not buy into all the propaganda. (Not many Germans were Jew hating Nazis) perhaps the bounty hunter knows more of the truth of what the Jedi were and represented, and won't turn in a bounty just because it's there. And as already said, you need proof they are in fact a Force user to get that bounty. And as already said, it boils down to group and player dynamics. While some conflict can be fun and interesting, turning on members of your group usually never ends well for the players or the characters. While watching Jayne in Firefly was great, it was scripted out and played out with actors that knew the script. Rule number one: Don't be a Richard Head.

I know it's been mentioned before, but I had a group where one of the PC's was a bounty hunter and another was the group's pilot and he was pro-Jedi because he was raised by an exiled padawan that escaped Order 66. He wasn't Force sensitive himself but was always curious and wanted to help people, which was opposite of what most of the group did.

During the finale of the campaign we played The Jewel of Yavin (SPOILER) and I introduce the Jedi character Elaiza. Even though she wants to interfere with the same goal the PC's have, the pro-Jedi PC wanted to help her because he knew that it was for a good cause, not just making money.

Mind you this campaign was running for just over a year and the characters had a good feel for each other by that point, if one went down, they all went down kind of mentality. Even though the rest of them were pretty greedy, they agreed a smaller payday would be better if they could help Elaiza achieve her goal.

How about taking a different approach and have the Bountyhunter turn in the Jedi early on in the campaign. Before the empire shows up give him a reason to change his mind and go on the run with the Jedi. For example you could have his ex contact him asking for help to find his missing force sensitive kid she never told him about and he needs the Jedi's help to find the kid. Once found the kid can be motivation for the BH to keep both the Jedi and his kids safe.

Of course both players would have to agree with this before hand.

Enjoy your game.

Not even started playing aaaaand PvP. Wonderful.
