Galaxy in Turmoil cancelled

I'll just sum up the bad news, LucasArts (what's left of it lol) had to issue a cease and desist to Frontwire studios over what was essentially the fan-made Battlefront sequel people wanted. Basically, EA has the sole contract from Disney to make SW games, Frontwire is not allowed under any circumstances to release SW IP material.

They had a polite meeting, and Frontwire only needs to cut the SW textures and stuff and make whatever they want, but it's a kick in the balls for people who wanted a real Battlefront sequel. It also means you're more than likely not seeing anything like a flight sinulator like TIE Fighter, or anything better than Jedi Academy, Rogue Squadron, or Kotor 2 for a long time. Or ever, as anyone with common sense knows how well EA handles things.

And is anyone really surprised? The fact that they came to a compromise is actually a decent result.

Pretty **** stupid to try and publish star wars stuff without licensing in the first place.

A kick in the balls maybe, but hardly unexpected and not necessarily wrongly either.

Probably feared the fan made version would overshadow their own shallow attempt at a game.

Well Bioware is owned by EA so a KOTOR type game could be a possibility.

Not in the scope of the original, and certainly not the quality of either 1 or 2. Tor was pretty bad until FTP, and that's pushing it.

Legally yes, justifiably no. It means you can expect rushed and half-assed products and the best you'll get is tolerable or mediocre. EA is nothing short of predictable, so anything that made good and great Star Wars games isn't going to happen. Thanks Disney.

You try making a Fantastic Four movie, see what happens. It has nothing to do with Disney, this would always have happened, they have to protect their IP or lose any protection at all.

I'm amazed a group of people could ever think that making a game based on the Star Wars IP without permission from Disney/LFL would ever be allowed.

I mean that is monumentally stupid on their part really.

And yet there are so many monuments to stupidity...

If they touted it as a star wars mod for something on steam rather than it's own game it would have been fine.

Still as I understand they are making their own universe based on it, and whose to say it won't be better for it?
