While a ship has at least one stress token, it cannot execute red maneuvers or perform any actions (even free actions).

• If an ability instructs a ship to “acquire a target lock,” this is different than performing an acquire a target lock action. The ship acquires the target lock without performing an action, and it may do so even if it has already performed the acquire a target lock action this round.

As I read it the acquire is not considered a free action therefore a stressed ship can still perform the target lock. It seems to be equivalent to being assigned a token apart from the restrictions of range for the lock.

Am I wrong?

You are correct. 'Acquiring a target lock' doesn't require actions and can be done whilst stressed.

if it was than Hobbie would be completely pointless lol. In fact hes the pilot that made me wonder if i had that rule wrong.

"Acquire a TL, remove a stress" - first time i read that i went "...thats impossible..." - nope because i didnt know about the ruling on it.
