I really really like VF, it gives troopers a big boost in damage the first turn making the alpha strike from a single group capable of killing or seriously disabling one of the big heroes in a single turn, and the best part that i absolutely love about this card is the 2 additional movement, it gives troopers a huge mobility boost. However with the new cross training i'm not really sure i want VF anymore, is it worth to give up that focus and extra movement for the spy cards? Are the spy cards really that powerful?

I would use Elite Wing Guard instead of Elite Snowtroopers. They hit harder with their rerolls and +2 damage..

I don't like lists with 5 activations. I wouldn't use that list, it's just not my style of playing this game.

I don't like Vader's Finest that much, because you essentially loose the first turn to focus. And I think two points are too expensive for that. Still, I've seen players being successful with this, it's just not my style of playing this game.

Spy cards are really good, but not good enough to be worth the points of Cross Training. If you want to play these cards, then play ISBs and Blaise or Rebels (Saboteurs and Leia).

Do you prefer less or more activations? Why?

too much vader's finest, you lose too much ground for focus. your opponent will set up objectives and you have to walk in. the focus stormies will be really only effective the 3rd round unless your opponent is all up in your base. chances are 2nd round when u move only once nothing is in range.

i've effectively used one finest group, they basically jus mop up when they arrive.

Yeah: Use your 6 points of Vader's finest on figures that you can move and attack with. Like Blaise or Regular Stormtroopers.

If the opponent has more activations than you, than he will have the last activation on turn 1.

Six activations seems to be the current benchmark for competitive skirmish lists. I'd never go below that number. Seven or more clearly has an advantage, but I don't build lists specifically for that - I take figure utility and synergies into consideration and build for six activations, if I somehow end up with points to spare for a 7th group I consider that an added bonus.

You can sign me up with the anti-Vader's Finest crowd. I would consider the card if it was 1pt (and probably still pass on anything but maybe regular Heavies), but I just can't see how such a conditional Focus ability is worth 2pts. In your above list, the 3x VF is 6pts, that's a whole extra deployment group.

I'd disagree with the Wing Guard and Spy points DerBaer made though.

eWing Guards and eSnowtroopers isn't a 1:1 comparison, since they're completely different pieces. eWing Guard, just like eStormtroopers, are a straight up "damage-per-second" unit, while Snowtroopers are a utility piece that is meant to provide Trooper lists with extra survivability via the extra pip of health (which is more valuable than it appears on the surface due to how the attack dice math works) and Blast/Bantha mitigation via the ERG ability. I wouldn't say one is necessarily better than the other, it depends on what you want to do with your list and what is played in your area. I played eStormtroopers, eSnowtroopers and rRoyals for a long stretch of time until Bespin came out and considered that one of the better Trooper builds. Protector and ERG and then Reinforcements made them come out on top in any Trooper vs. Trooper grind matchup that was common at the time.

Speaking of Bespin, I consider the new Spy cards to be absolutely phenomenal. Trooper builds lose a lot of their teeth when you pull out their Reinforcements and Grenadiers. Banthas are a lot less scary without movement cards and Jundland Terror. Luke can be caught out in the open and shot to pieces if you deny him Son of Skywalker. You can do all that with the new Command Card denial Spy cards. What is true is that Command Card shenanigans don't win games on their own and aren't worth the trouble on their own, which is why I don't believe in ISB Infiltrator lists. What does win games is combining Command Card shenanigans with stuff that's already good at winning games - like, say, Troopers and Reinforcements and Grenadier. Which is why I consider Cross Training pure gold, despite being sceptical when it was first previewed. I dubbed the list I'm currently playing Blazing Troopers. It's built around 2 Cross Trained groups of eStormtroopers and Agent Blaise. I've been playing Imperial Troopers since the day after the Royal Guard nerf and can honestly say that it now feels like everything that's ever been good about Troopers with some Even Better sauce poured on it and then a cherry put on top for good measure.

I see, so 6 pts is too much and it's not worth to take VF. I took the VFs out to take Blaise and put in some spy cards instead.
