Not making it to a tournamnet tommorow cause of my stupid job.
What's your most heart-breaking loss?
This years store championships. I was running palp-mobile Soontir and Carnor with identical builds. Against BBBBZ I had destroyed a B in the opening pass and taken a hit to Soontir through sheer against the odds failure of green dice, but was feeling confident.
The Bs had slip up and 2 were chasing Soontir around while Carnor and OGPalpatine focussed on the other B and the Z. As I was assigning my dials a mate came over having lost horribly and I stupidly stopped to talk to him about his game. I placed my dials and my opponent asked me if I was set, having lost focus I said "yeah" without checking the dials. Both interceptors were doing hard 2s in different directions Carnor left, Soontir right. When the time came to flip Carnor's dial I noticed that I had assigned him a hard 2 right. My stomach sank, fearing that I had given each int the wrong dial. Lo and behold Soontir hard 2'd off the board.
The shuttle died pretty quick to the focussed Fire of 3 Bs, Carnor survived and killed the Z and badly damaged another B but by this point I had left myself too much to do and ran out of time.
Not my biggest loss by a long way but one I feel most keenly because of the circumstances; a stupid mistake, Store Championships and no one lets me forget the incident
Last game of my local SC this year. I am 2-0, decent chance at taking the thing (tiny tournament). I fly against double IGs using Redline, OL and Soontir. A matchup in my favour, with Soontir who can take two IGs almost on his own. Well...I did take a stupid risk and put Soontir over an asteroid, which would have put him into a prefect position for the next few turns, free shots with no retribution - at worst I'll be unkillable on two hull, right?
Well, I got the crit that makes all hard turns red. Barely hang on to the game until I forgot about the crit. My opponent then put me on a course that inevitably led me off the board. Was on tilt after that and lost my last game, too.
A while back I had a game with Kavil and some Binayre pirates (5?), forgot my opponent had proton bombs and ended up drawing 4 direct hits and a munitions failure on kavil.
RNG hates me so much.
Had one of my HLC crackshot brobots (I think b) left against an ello asty with a few hull left. Was only able to get ello in arc this turn by not removing stress from last turn, and then I popped glitterstim figuring this was my last chance.
Ello shoots and I pull the crit that doesn't let you attack this round.
now I'm double stressed facing the board edge and a turn later ello t rolls and finishes me off.
Life.
I seriously don't know why I wake up and get out of bed.
I lose so often they all just sorta blur together.
Hello me. How did I make it to this thread ahead of me?
My opponent rolled perfect defense every......... single............ time.........
After a hard fought game v palp aces at a wave 7 store championship, it came down to my 31 point tactician warden v just the shuttle when time was called
So I won (modified win of 31 v 29 points left) and was ecstatic that all that hard effort and tension paid of
Except I had forgotten that that shuttle also had a sensor jammer
Edited by ficklegreendicePre phantom nerf - Fighting for the wooden spoon. Due to a bad Procket roll I'm down to Soontir Vs Mauler and Whisper, I take out Mauler and I'm flying Soontir like the Boss he is, dodging Whisper and chipping damage through. time is almost up and there is one turn left.
I pull a move putting me at R3 with Whisper going across the front, fearing a run and hide strategy to win on time I boost in the direction of Whispers travel to still have a shot if a forward de-cloak and 4 Straight is pulled. Whisper de-cloaks towards Soontir and 1 Hard in to a bump. No Shots fired..... Sad Panda, and proud owner of 1 Wooden Spoon.
My most heart-breaking loss is also my most proudest moment.
Showed up to a tourney at our local comic shop, and with Regionals happening elsewhere in Texas that very weekend, only two of us showed up. We played because there was still swag and bragging rights up for grabs. Besides, If I win, then I win my first tournament ever!!
But I didn't win. I talked all manner of trash, tried to get into the mind of my opponent, all to no avail. And lost.
It was heart-breaking because I was oh-sooo-close to finally grabbing that brass ring and winning my first tournament. But it remains my proudest moment as my son - my 10-yr old son - won his first tournament, and beat his trash-talking dad to do so.
And if I could go back and do it again - I wouldn't change a **** thing.
I lost my phone at a store championship I felt I had a good shot to make the cut going in to round 4 (of 5). I lost my head after I lost my phone, and made some absolutely boneheaded maneuvers that cost me the game against those Brobots. It was a day of loses.
I gambled on a fart one time and lost while playing X-wing.
My worst was flying a triple defenders list against a friends BobaRoo list. Blanked almost all of my evade rolls. And the game was over by the 3rd turn of shooting.
But it did let us get in a third game that evening because the game was so quick.
I'm so glad to hear someone else is flying BobaRoo. And using the name!
Going 5-1 at regionals and not making the cut....
My loss happening in my final matchup simply cause their list countered mine. By far my best day of flying though.
My local tournament last weekend that I would have won. Was running a Dash+Lothal list. Lothal was dead, but I had wrecked the other guy and he had a lone almost dead defender left (that I out PSed) and Dash was still at full health. Then I did something utterly stupid and thought Dash was pointing the other directino, and instead of skimming along the outside of an asteroid like I thought I was doing, I instead was flying off the map.
Regional in 2015. Corran blanks his evades and dies early and Dash solos the other guys entire list till hes at Chewy with 2 hit points left and Dash takes a old damage deck remove secondary weapon crit. I lose when I cant get any dmg past evade+c3p0 with Dashes 2 dice primary. Missed the top cut because of that crit card
Edited by ShazbotRegional 2015, too. Last game of Swiss, the winner makes the cut, the loser goes home.
I'm with "Rebel Death Star" - Dash and Jan Ors - against Chewie and Leebo. Jan is wounded, so it's Chewie down on 3 hulls.
I got the "no action" crit on my 2 hull Dash 3 turns before and i had not been able to clear it missing all my rolls, nevertheless I got an open shot on a 1 hull Leebo. 5 dice, no mods, but still 5 dice: blank blank blank blank focus.
He fires back with Mangler: 2 hits. Guess my defensive roll? Yeah, blank and blank.
Poor Dash goes down in flames, Jan eventually kills Leebo but get killed by Chewie.
I crashed my head in the wall, while laughing with my opponent
