Storage

By brownj23, in X-Wing

Hi All,

I currently store my x-wing with 4 of these stanley 25 compartment cases and 1 of the stanley 10 compartment cases.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005QWYF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

However I am starting to get annoyed with having to carry around 5 cases and a binder of cards.

Can you let me know the merits/advantages between each of these plano cases? Or can you recommend another case that will be able to store 70ish small base, 15ish large bases ships, and the relavant accessories. AND be able to support a few waves worth of future releases?

Thanks!

I love my 4 Stanley cases. I have cheaper, smaller, Tactix case for when I don't need to bring everything with me. I use one of those reusable grocery bag that is perfectly shaped for 4 of them if I actually need to bring them all with me. Straps could work too.

If anything, I'm annoyed at how much more expensive they are in Canada, otherwise I'd have dozens of the things for my shop too. It comes out to $21 USD to buy them here, I'd kill to get them at $12USD each.

im at the point where my little tacklebox doesnt hold everything so i have to leave a bwing, firespray, and ghost at home.

But i think im just going to get a bigger tacklebox. Its very very convenient to have those trays for all the tokens n crap. Most of the small ships fit in there too.

This is exactly the reason why I argue against the Stanley cases. If you keep buying (and who doesn't?), you end up with just too many of the dang things! It becomes unbearable.

In my signature, you can see a link to a threat where I show my Plano 1374 case and set up. I have recently outgrown that and gotten some Plano trays that hold the large based ships and epics. You can see all the stuff available to be fit into a Plano 1374 and you can see the extra trays that fit the other stuff. I love the Plano 1374 case. I especially like the large top section that can hold a lot of stuff. I've put an Epic ship up there, upgrade cards, movement trays, and all my large based ships until all that got to be too much. You can still see I fit a lot of those suckers in there. You can get the 1374 for about $20 at a local store and can often mix and match the trays that come in it with other Plano trays to find the best combo in the store.

There is also comments in the same thread for different options. Probably the best one that I have seen so far is someone buying some pizza delivery cases off Amazon and then getting a bunch of foam to fit into the cases. The pizza bags are 12" tall and you can fit a lot in. The foam might take some hunting around for, but otherwise it's an awesome system.

A single plano 5231 is enough for me to bring 2-6 lists with me in a single case. The rest of the collection is kept at home in a few pelican cases (freebies from work) another 5231 for upgrade cards, templates, tokens etc. and a card box for pilot cards.

I hate to leave anything at home as I never know what I'm going to play on game night.

Yes this is mean and why I want to get into a single case instead of 5 + card binder.

For general storage and travel, I use the P.A.C.K. Go from BattleFoam.

. . . but for tournaments, I carry the squads I plan to use, I use a Plano 5231 in a Boba Fett styled backpack

The backpack has room for a laptop, or large tablet, along with the Plano 5231.

I may look into an alternative for the general storage for my ever-growing collection, though, in the near future.

Just an idea of what the 787 holds. I like that fact I can fit all the cards in 2 Xenoskin Zipfolios and they fit on the back. Great if your just going to your local store and not carry it around everywhere.

Are the trays big enough to any of the large base ships?

2 trays are, the top tray in the 4 tray bay (picture 3 under the rebel logo) I have the falcon and YT-2400, and the tray on the left side (picture 4) where I have the Tie Punisher and Defenders will hold sizes comparable to the YT-2400. Not much, also if you don't mind your ships banging against each other.

Any of them besides the top have enough room for a ghost?

Get a 8 foot china cabinet with lights to display all your ships.

Thats how it should be!

No.

Right now I have 2 of the last Plano you mentioned here. ( http://www.planomold...-systems/137401 ) One for Armada one for X-Wing.

I also have 3 extra of the generic boxes that come with the Plano for additional stuff and two small clear totes. One of the totes fits both my Raider and my CR90 and then I can fit two smaller plano trays in there for the ships and accessories I need to play. The second tote houses un-punched cardboard for spares when I need to replace tokens as well as all my extra bases and pegs.

I grabbed one of the stanley boxes you have for my daily carry that will fit two or three squads.

Cards are in deck boxes, upgrade cards are in a single plano case, and dials/base tokens in another. I will be moving to a zipper binder however with coin sleeves for the dials, regular card pages for pilots and the new smaller card pages for upgrades. Just putting what I need in the Stanley for whatever I'm going to fly that game day.

My collection has just gotten to the point where I have too much to take to every game.

Why not just find a good storage solution home and then one good smaller solution for when put and about? Do you need to bring as much as possible each time you play?

I use eight of the regular Plano trays for the majority of my ships, along with a deeper tray for the Ghost, shuttles and Decimators, a smaller tray for mission tokens and a binder with all of the pilot cards. It all gets lugged around in a wheeled duffle from WalMart, with enough room for several more trays if needed.

I've been struggling with storage since 2012 lol. The problem I think, is with all the content. I have enough generics to field at least 100 points of every ship through half of wave 8. There is just too much to fit in a good portable solution. I'm looking at a rolling case of some sort (hard shell with custom foam) to get the collection all in one place so to speak, as 4 Planos and 3 clear totes plus binders is a lot (not even counting all the duplicate stuff that stays in the closet). Modular systems are cool too, but I hate all the wasted space from the plastic cases. I have almost an entire closet full of x-wing and x-wing related boxes (wasted space!), but I refuse to give battlefoam my money. Once I get the case and foam sorted out, I'll post a how to with pictures for the folks with a full-figured collection.

This is my philosophy. Granted, I don't get to play much, but I have a couple decent sized Planos for home storage, and a mini-toolbox with movement templates, dice, etc., and enough storage space for 100pts of stuff to bring to games.

In the dedicated GAME ROOM!

I have seven sets of bookshelves for minis, games and books, but will now look for deals on lit china cabinets to replace them!

Plano boxes on amazon, "customers who bought this item also bought:" x-wing Tie/fo, x-wing starviper, x-wing decimator, and so on for a few pages
