Marauder and the Lightsaber

Yeah... never said that it was a good plan, it rather a mind disturbing plan, since he thinks that his 370 XP Char is just in the starting grounds...

BTW, I was thinking about confronting the players with some kind of mirror match... just to show them what they could have done with some proper thinking... then again, after building three alternate versions (same starting conditions, career and no career the players didn't choose yet, and the same equipe) but then again I could already predigt the outcome... I think, they would be utterly devasted and couldn't bring it on... ya know, the all have to have fun rule... and so... <_< )

Just have a talk to him; that is the most effective way to deal with it. Personally I think if you have a lot of ranks of parry and reflect, you honestly prefer the defensive dice perks more over more raw soak. I mea, honestly, he's spending an awful lot of exp doing noting but getting mildly better at something he should be already good at! Melee combat. It isn't powergaming so much as he's being really greedy for all the juicy talents, when he's paying a huge price to get what he wants.

Sure he will have juicy talents but he won't really have the raw skills to match.

Isn't 'lightsaber' as a combat skill only something introduced in FaD? I don't have the book in front of me at the moment, but if you're playing an EotE game, wouldn't those talents apply because lightsabers are considered melee because lightsaber as a combat skill doesn't exist?

I may be horribly wrong.

One of the things , I believe this system is trying to do is to minimize the gap between FS and non FS, previous systems had force users way ahead of other players. A tricked out lightsaber is light years ahead of the best tricked out melee weapon. A way of balance for this is to have the melee spec(s) have a way of narrowing that gap, by allowing things like frenzied strike and feral strength. At least this is how I see it. Allowing them to use them on Lightsaber checks just widens the gap again.
