Attanni Mindlink

By Firespray-32, in X-Wing

I ran a mindlinked Manaroo / Kavil / Kaa'to squadron in our league, and ended up near the top of the standings (got nuked in the top 8 playoffs but that's a sad tale of woe).

Mindlink between Manaroo and Kavill can make him the only ship on which a blaster turret is worthwhile. Oh so worthwhile. Target locked, focussed 4 dice turret attack.

Hahahahaha.... imagine an entire 300 point epic fleet of mind-linked ships!

Imagine one /D with flechette cannon ruining it all.

I have been running mindlinked Sycks since Wave 8 dropped. With the new "Fang" fighter I naturally looked at upgrading. Now looking at it, barring a stupendous dial, I am not sure it is an improvement. Consider the TPV Scyk with ML and mangler canon at 24 points. 3 red dice at any range without range effects, 3 HP, focus, BR, TL, and Evade. The standard plan is to focus and evade nearly every turn. Compare that the the PS 5 Fang with nothing but ML at 24 points. You gain an HP, but the attack dice are the same when you balance range one vs range 3 and you loose the crit. The real problem I see is that you trade the evade action for boost. That evade token is worth 1 HP each time you use it, not just once. You want autothrusters? Either drop to PS 3 or consider a 3-ship build instead of 4.

I cannot say for sure until see the dial, but I am thinking that the Scyks might be better for a ML swarm than the new Fangs. Of course, they suck at everything else, but that is not the context that I am evaluating them.

You have made very excellent observations about the new Fang fighter generic pilots. Losing the evade action is a big deal, and their title will not make up for it on most turns of a game. Even if Fang fighters are slightly better than mangler Sycks, that won't be good enough. In this time of Dengaroo and Palpatine, Fang fighter generics are all 3 points overcosted.

To be clear, Mangler Scyks, by them selves, are not as good as similarly costed Fang fighters. However, I believe that Mindlinked Scyks are better than Fangs due to the action economy.

Lots of food for thought. I've no Jumpmaster, one Kihraxz and two Scyks though so this'll be an interesting one to build for.

Without a Jumpmaster, how are you using Attanni Mindlink? Are you just looking for ideas before you get one? Are you using proxies? Are/Did you buy them individually from a second-hand seller?

I only have one Jumpmaster, but I bought two more Mindlink from ebay. I think it was worth it because I don't see myself picking up another Jumpmaster for another year or so. I think it was $7 with shipping to get my two.

No official tournament play so I never buy ships for cards. Ever. I'm also a player that changes build every game so constantly refilling and finding upgrade cards is a pain so I moved to only physically using functional components a while ago (the pilot cards). Once you've done that you effectively have every upgrade card in the squad builder. Other upshot is every preview article is effectively a new card release.

The JumpMaster never struck me as that interesting: if I want a torpedo bomber I'll use an actual bomber and I don't particularly want another PWT.

Once you get started on Mindlink lists, you'll never go back. They add another dimension of planning and complexity to the game. It also allows a lot of creativity in list building, as ships that are generally considered rubbish are actually useable with Mindlink. You see people getting top 8 finishes in Regionals with the most bizzare lists thanks to Mindlink.

So,m once I pick up the ARC-170 I'm thinking:

Palob Godalhi - Attanni Mindlink, Autoblaster Turret, Vector Thrusters

Gand Findsdman - Attanni Mindlink, Mist Hunter

Black Sun Ace - Attanni Mindlink

Black Sun Ace - Attanni Mindlink

I've been having a lot of fun running a mindlinked Palob / 3 x Black Sun Ace squad. I'm thinking swapping out an Ace for the Findsman gives the list a couple more tricks up it's sleeve (and Vectors on Palob will help make sure I can exploit his ability).

A shame the Mist Hunter's barrel roll doesn't seem to work on the benchmark site - still, fun shenanigans to be had.

Looking forward to giving this a try on the tabletop.

Y U NO GIVE PALOB MINDLINK FFG?

What are you, nuts?!!

Especially when there's still a point free in the list!

And if you've got 3 copies of Attanni Mindlink, you definitely have a 4th sitting around somewhere.

Eh, not really.

Only one max was going to be doing a red maneuver anyways.

Yeah, you stress all of my ships, but only one of them has to do a green in order to give all of them all a focus. It's a hindrance I suppose, but Mindlink itself mitigates that problem and when I'm not facing weaponized stress it's a massive benefit.

It's an interesting idea for Epic. I wish epic events were more feasible and common, I wonder what the meta would be if 300 point lists were the norm. There would be a lot more variety. Alternatively, it would just be a quest to out TLT your opponent.

Next time you play Epic, put some sort of limit on TLT. I let my opponent know I had 8 TLT cards, so I ended up facing 8 TLT ships. It was not fun, haha.

I ran this a couple times. Worked pretty good.
