New obstacles

By chr335, in Star Wars: Armada

Well we know we are getting at least one new obstacle in the campaign. Do you think we will get any more and what effects do you think they will have.

I have two ideas and ion Strom if you land on it roll one blue die on a hit exhaust a defense token on a critical exhaust all of them. The other would be something like a black hole land on it and reduce speed by one to a minimum of zerone. These two cannot be moved by experimental upgrades.

As least three: dust field, unarmed station, armed station.

Well, Dust Fields will be new Obstacles.

There is what appears to be a duplicate of the Station in there already.

And the "Unarmed Station, Armed Station" are Cards, of which we can see half of...

In future campaigns I would like to see

  • Space Slug. An asteroid field with more bite (literally). Take asteroid damage as usual then roll 1 red dice against a ship that ignores shields. Also roll 1 red dice against each squadron and braces cannot effect this.
  • Comet. An obstacle combining a 1" diameter asteroid at one end with a 4" long teardrop shaped dust field tail. It moves at speed 1 at the end of each turn. Take damage if you land on it or if it lands on you.
  • Nebula. A large area of the table maybe 2-3 feet across. Any ship with a down shield rolls a blue dice against itself in the end phase. Hits cause a damage, crits & accuracies do nothing. No squadrons may use brace defence tokens while in the nebula.
  • Black hole. These are big (actually they are infinitely small but lets not get into that). There is one off the eastern (short) edge of the table with the eastern table edge representing the certain death event horizon. In the end phase of each turn measure the number of feet that the closest part of a ship, squadron, token or obstacle is from the eastern table edge. 0-1 feet = distance 4, 1-2 feet = distance 3, 2-3 feet = distance 2, 3-4 feet = distance 1, 4+ feet no change. Units move the indicated distance straight eastward in the end phase. Anything touching the eastern table edge is spagettified.

Wtf, how do I 3D model a dust field?!

Some combination of liquid nitrogen, iron filings and superconducting magnets?

Or just apply PVA glue to a painted black base and sprinkle fine sand over it. When dry varnish it with watered down PVA again to seal it.

I would like rules for them moving around in the game ;)

The spoiled Blue objective from before Armada's release had moving obstacles, but it was dropped before the final version of the core set. So I would expect to see something similar in the Corellian or future releases, whether it's campaign specific or a new objective.

Grav Shift Reroute.

"Every Day I'm Shovelin'" (Obstacles where I want 'em....)

Wtf, how do I 3D model a dust field?!

I am thinking I really stretch out a couple of cotton balls so they are real wispy, then spray-paint them black so they are hard to see, and then sprinkle dust over them so the dust appears to be suspended.

Maybe glitter not dust, to make it more visible. Important note: I am not normally a big fan of glitter except on strippers

Glittering twilight vampire strippers?

I'm old school with my vampires. They should be evil bloodsuckers how burst into fire in sunlight

When I'm playing with my friend, I'm using 3D meteors that I bougth separatly.

The biggest one have around 10cm by 4cm of thickness. The malus attribution for those "new" obstacle is when you ram them with your ship, you receive a flip dommage card ("critical dommage"), reduce your speed by 1 to a minimum of 0 and you remove the rock after the impact.

It bring's something more (with the speed malus) that you have to think about it ;)

We really enjoy this addition to the game.
