Not too sure on what is coming.

I would add the Dreadnought and perhaps the Tartan?

Who would be down for an official 3X6 mat?

Just trying to think of things they could offer that isn't a ship to rain on some parades. :o

I just spent 100$ to get the 2 X-Wing mats so no they're good enough for me;)

I thought they were 40 each?

I can at least 95%, agree with you. The Quasar Carrier should be medium.

But ships like the Gladiator and MC30 are larger.

Longer, yes, but it is also much wider. It would be on the small end of medium, but I'm ok with that.

GENCONTHURSDAY...

Is the FFG panel at 1pm EST? It's our only hope!

Is tomorrow FFG's panel?

Imagine if the 5 missing SKU's are 2 new Rebel Ships and 3 new Imperial Ships! Balancing the ship count!!!!

Maybe 1 and 2 and 2 squadron packs.

Do you play X-Wing?

Nope. I just compare the two games. I tried X-Wing but I just don't like the easiness of the game and the 40k feel of "Flavor of the expansion"

I certainly wouldn't call it easy. In a lot of ways it's more difficult than Armada, because you have to predict where people are going to go when planning your maneuvers. Not familiar with 40K so I don't really know what that means by flavor.

Anyhow, the reason I asked is because most people that I talk to, who play both X-Wing AND Armada, have much less of an interest in squadrons. Not like they hate them or anything, but they feel like X-Wing is the game for TIE Fighters and X-Wings, and Armada is the game for Star Destroyers and MC-80s. In local games and tournaments, it's rare to see a squadron heavy build. Last tournament there was only 1 rhymerball, and below that the most you'd see is 4 squadrons. A lot of these people also play X-Wing. So I was curious if you played X-Wing because of your comments about 2 more squadron packs.

I don't want to be like a sith and deal in absolutes, but I would almost wager to say that no serious X-Wing player would want to see TWO squadron packs in wave 5. Of course now someone will chime in and prove me wrong, and when that happens sure enough I'll have a red lightsaber. =P

Being the odd RPG guy I love squadrons in glorious MARDA.

Not wrong, I mean, its an interpretation and all... But I find it absolutely silly that one would hold such a prejudice based on an other game they play... Isn't Armada allowed to be different on its own? :D

I think it looks very ragtag when they even in such big tourneys put two smaller mats together for Armada. Apologies to all offended, oc it works, but c'mon, where is the style??

Of course it is... that's exactly WHY I made that claim..... because releasing a ton of squadrons wouldn't feel different to me. It would feel like releasing the same stuff I already have. More of the same.

Now maybe if every squadron (or at least most of them) happened to be ships that weren't in X-Wing already, then it would be something new... but chances are they'll do ships that we have in X-Wing, like Z-95s, TIE Defenders, TIE Phantoms, K-Wing, E-Wing, VT-49 Decimator, The Ghost, TIE Advanced Prototypes. etc... I already have all that stuff, as do many x-wing players, so that wouldn't necessarily feel "different" to us. Just speaking in generalities here, because it's all hypothetical.

Well, of course they'll be "much the same"... Its Star Wars, isn't it? Its not Armada's fault that X-Wing has Layered on Expansion after Expansion after Expansion for the past 4 years :D

I mean, I am completely biased in the other direction to you. I play Armada, and nothing else. X-Wing has absolutely nothing to do with any levels of my excitement or disappointment.

I feel its a **** shame you let such a thing as "I have a Ghost in X-Wing Scale, I don't need one in Armada scale" be a determining factor of excitement for you... Because that just seems crazy to me.

I mean, it explains some levels of the 'disappointment' you express at times... But its just a **** shame, man. :)

HAHAHAHA

For me the predictions are not the hard part. I don't like some of the tactics. Like purposeful bumping and such, just boring imo.

Hmmmm we had a tournament this last sunday (Mikael might have a write up about it already. . . huh. . . he does not. . . Imperial slacker) and I think every player there brought squadrons. Yup, 6 out of 6 players had squadrons. In my area we went from little squadrons to having lot of them due to Mikael beating people over the head with them and he is an X-Wing player as well.

If people dont want squadrons, too bad! I want new toys. The squadron game in Armada is complex and has so many variables to it.

Eh, I look at that differently. Sure X-Wing has those fighters and other ones but they are singles. They are not squadrons! I tell every X-Wing player I teach or show the game that their game of X-Wing is a small in comparison by pointing out that there game is played on about an inch of our range 1

That's not what I mean though. Even in my examples, everyone has squadrons, but everyone doesn't have SQUADRONS. What I mean is a squadron-centric build. Flying with 85+ points of squadrons, plus titles or upgrades that give enhancements to squadrons is what I'm talking about. Even I'll bring at least a TIE squadron or two just to delay a rhymerball. Rebels have an even better version of a distraction with Tycho. I don't count that as having Squadrons in terms of them being impactuful to your fleet planning.

Back to the lack of enthusiasm for squadrons....I think part of it is the quality of the squadron miniatures as well.... I've grown to expect AMAZING quality from FFG, and the squadrons just look cheap when contrasted to the detail, paint quality, and sculting accuracy of virtually everything else they've done for Armada and X-Wing both. (I would also throw out other miniatures they've done but most of the rest isn't painted, like Imperial Assault, Descent, Doom, Drakon, Wiz-War, etc).

SW Rebellion is similar too. It gets a pass though because it's a standalone board game, rather than a miniatures game... but still Imagine they came out with a "Super Armada" miniatures game, that dealt primarily with Super Star Destroyers, space stations, Death Stars, Planets, etc. And they had these tiny, poorly sculpted Star Destroyers and Rebel Frigates that you could buy also... Don't you think that you MIGHT feel less enthusiastic about those?

And we've already got SOOO many squadrons with 8 more on the way in a few months! Wouldn't you rather get 5 new ships?

Another thought - What if they did LARGER Flotillas? Say a Medium Base with 3 CR-90s on it? Or a Pelta in the middle with 2 CR-90s on the sides?

if it had completely different Mechanics to account for it. (Ie, Epic Armageddon vs. 40K)

Then I'd be just as enthusiastic. As it is a different treatment to a different game.

You "give a pass" because Rebellion is a "Board Game".... I "give a pass" to Armada, because Armada is not X-Wing. They are different enough for me. They're not different enough to you... Which, as stated - is perfectly acceptable as its a personal opinion. I was just trying to understand the mechanic behind it.

Personally, X-Wing brings up nightmares of CFS at Point Cook/Laverton, given impossible mock engagements to maneuver out of in the 2d plane... Which is why I never considered playing it at release... Armada has opened the door for me to consider it, because Star Wars is Star Wars... But there's still something about the game that turns me off it... Even when I have the money in my wallet and I'm staring at the boxes on the LGS shelf.

Guess I'll be that guy then!

I consider myself a serious X-Wing player (I'm the one who organise the tounaments around here and am currently organising a Team Epic one, I participate in tounaments up to Regional (made top 8 in the last two years) and I try to play at least once every two weeks (gotta share playing time with Armada and Imperial Assault)) and I would love to see another squadron pack or two in Armada. I'm currently experimenting with squadron heavy build because I love what they bring to the table. I feel like a fleet battle must have at least a couple squadron in it, it would not feel like Star Wars without squadrons.

And the gameplay is so different from X-Wing that I don't get why a X-Wing player would not want squadrons in Armada. Sure, it's still a X-Wing, but the ressemblance stop there. They move differently, they attack differently, they defend differently, they interact differently...

For me, this picture represent what is Armada, and notice all the squadron everywhere.... you just can't get enough...
