Awesome New Dengaroo Tech!

By Caboose2900, in X-Wing

So, this just came to me last night. Dengar has infinite focus. Bodyguard uses focus. Seems perfect for our focus flinging bandage man.

"But bodyguard says higher pilot skill, and Manaroo is lower pilot skill."

I know I know. I was getting there before you so rudely interrupted me. The second part of my two part tech: Decoy. Manaroo gets Decoy, steals Dengar's pilot skill, and there ya have it.

I never said this tech was good, just that it was awesome. And I think that is pretty awesome. I mean, Manny now has a permanent countermeasures. That's pretty cool.

Dengar wants that lonewolf pretty badly though.

So... you Bodyguard Manaroo and I shoot Dengar who now has no Lone Wolf. K.

Indeed. The problem is that Dengar wants his high pilot skill because he's doing the bulk of the heavy lifting - he needs to shoot first. Manaroo's survivability mostly comes from boosting or barrel rolling to not get shot at at all - tying her to range 1 of Dengar puts her squarely in the gunsights of the enemy squad.

This wouldn't be that bad actually, but you're giving up PtL on Manaroo and giving her a range 1 tether to Dengar.

Manaroo can no longer just run, and since she'll be right next to Dengar I'll just never shoot at Dengar and kill off tokenless Manaroo right away, ignoring both Dengar's counterstrike and Manaroo's Bodyguard defensive boost.

So actually, this would be pretty bad. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but you're straight up downgrading the list.

Dengaroo players have to remember that it's important not to give me shot selection between both Dengar and Manaroo. If you give me shots on both, now I have no incentive to attack Dengar and trigger his ability when Manaroo is sitting right behind him with no tokens.

I know this is a bad idea. I just thought it was a fun interaction. If Bodyguard didn't have the strict range restriction then I could see Manaroo taking it and Rec Spec to give Dengar a permanent Countermeasures. But I know that wouldn't be that great either. It's just kinda sad that Bodyguard is such a bad card...

the one time Luke and Palpatine agree

"your overconfidence is your weakness"

"YOUR FAITH IN YOUR DICE IS YOURS"

never invest in bodyguard; never invest in more green dice

This DOES bring up another point that has likely escapes attention (probably for obvious reasons):

Contracted Scout gives us our lowest PS Bodyguard carrier (and has a crew slot for Recon Spec too!).

Might be we can actually make the marginally useful Bodyguard EPT fit into an averagely useful list with:

Contracted Scout + Bodyguard + Recon Spec (+R5P8 or similar for good measure).

Im not quite sure what Scum ship would be best to protect, though. Dengar in some form would be good. Any HLC carrier would be solid. Just a thought!

This wouldn't be that bad actually, except for all the restrictions and opportunity costs that make it very bad .

Xizor.

Except that, ironically, they'll just shoot the Bodyguard who Xizor would've shunted damage onto anyway. Shoot the hard target which will defer the damage, or shoot the easy target? Really tough choice there...

Better yet you can give Manaroo Bodyguard and recon. Due to the timing, she can give someone the +1 agility from bodyguard, then pass them a focus too. Not sure why you'd do that, but you can.

I once flew Manaroo with Recon and Bodyguard. I remember protecting Kaato Leechos in his Z-95 who lived way longer than he should have. Now we just need a scum ship that has 2 EPT slots, then Attani Mindlink + Bodyguard can happen.
