What Is Your Favorite X-Wing Podcast?

By Spacenin, in X-Wing

As the title says, I want to know your favorite podcast about x-wing. I'm wanting to listen to one for a while, and want to know you guy's favorites. Please tell me why you like the podcast as well. And no bias, so if you are part of a podcast, don't respond with your own.

I listen to Scum & Villainy and Mynock Squadron. I like different hosts on each show (on S&V, I like sozin and Antigrapist's POVs quite a bit; on MS I like all three main hosts, but I particularly appreciate Dee), and on both shows I like the overall balance they strike between competitive seriousness and whimsy.

I listen to Nova when I have a decade or so to kill and they're covering something I'm particularly interested in. Mostly I like MMajorJuggler's contributions there, because while he and I don't always agree, he is always reasonable. (And I mean that literally: not "he is calm and collected," though he generally is, but actually "he uses reason to reach and support his conclusions, and he re-evaluates his conclusions with new evidence." That doesn't sound like a big thing, but it's rare.

I personally like the hosts of the Bay Area's Drunk Dials, and I absolutely love the concept of the podcast, but alas I can't listen to it because I throw up a little bit in my mouth every time they say the full (unbelievably stupid) name of the podcast.

I listen to Nova, S&V, Mynock, Back to Dials and Radio TCX.

TCX is a great starting point. I love how they are direct and to the point. The other podcasts can get long winded at times, which is fine for when I am on the road, but there is never a moment in TCX where I feel the need to hit the skip ahead button.

Tough call on the best. My favorites are Scum & Villainy, NOVA Squadron, Mynock Squdron, and The Kessel Run.

I also like the Jodo Cast, but they're not X-wing only.

As a casual player, I heartily endorse The Shuttle Tydirium podcast. Mynock Squadron is good too.

Radio TCX and Back to Dials are the best. 186th is really good too.

Listen to them all!

My favourite, because I like their style and I have enjoyed their coverage on things like Epic and more casual formats, is The Kessel Run.

I also listen to Nova Squadron Radio, Scum and Villainy, Back to Dials, Mynock Squadron, and Cloud City Radio. I think it is hard to pick which is best out of those. I started listening to Nova Squadron before the others. Cloud City Radio is less meta relevant since it does seem like in the UK they do have a slightly different meta, but it is enjoyable to hear about different lists from there (I just wish their audio quality was better). On Scum and Villainy I have really liked every host who has been on the show (the have rotated members quite a bit). I really like the "commercials" on Back to Dials.

One of the podcasts had a "beginners" segment, with one of the hosts S.O. which I enjoyed, but it seems to have stopped. So if they are reading this, bring it back!

The newer podcasts I have not had the time to try.

Kessel Run is probably my favorite followed closely by Mynock Squad.0

You can only get One Minute of Gordon™ on Stay on Target, so that one.

I think that it is great that posters are not just listing their podcast playlist but why they listen to each one. When trying to decide how to spend my listening time, this perspective helps me out.

Back to Dials: The first X-wing podcast I listened to. Can't remember how I found them. Still my favorite.

S&V: I like the pirate theme although they seem to mostly prefer Imp lists. I enjoy their format, and Sable's insights I find interesting.

Mynock: I drop in and out with these guys. While they have good content my listening time is limited and Grumpy Dragon can be grating at time.

Based on the other posts here I may have to try Kessel Run and/or TCX. Sounds interesting.

Lots of good stuff, trying Mynoch Squadron first because S & V isn't on itunes (that I can see)

We are, here's a link .

Evergreen squadron!!!! I may be biased though!

I started with Nova Squadron. Still listen to them, Dr. Bob is my preferred caster of that crew. The bromance between hosts gets super annoying super fast, though. Earlier episodes have a voice that I miss now that has actually popped up on other webcasts, though I can't remember his name at this moment. They're hella competitive, so if the hardcore tourney scene isn't for you, steer clear. With sage advice such as "fly better" and "stop sucking hind taint" (I paraphrased the latter...), beginners won't find much useful information here. This is top tier X-Wing gaming podcast material.

Stay on Target - being of the southeast, I enjoy this podcast. Simple and to the point, they engage in some good casual gaming as well as small scale tourney material. If I have one gripe about this one, is that there's too much cheese on the party tray. Tone down the flavor, and just get on with it. There aren't any ewok cabin crew. Stop goofing.

Scum and Villany. Mynok Squadron. Back to Dials. I listen to those too.

You may be thinking of a previous Back to Dials podcast. Only sometimes do they have a "beginners" segment and they only seem to release once a month.

Stay on Target!! 100% more Gordon than any other podcast. Also respects the Bothan sacrifice.

Yeah... Mynocks.

1) Scum & Villainy (because bounty hunters & pirates)

2) Back to Dials (fly even better!)

3) Radio TCX (nice fast paced format. Bravo!)

4) Nova Squadron on occasion with lots of skipping (I remember they had good Hoth Open coverage)

.

.

Mynock Squadron (so cheesy.. so beefy.. Dallas Parker saves it. For some reason I do end up listening often)

Evergreen Squadron.

After that I would say I enjoy all of them but gravitate to The Shuttle Tydirium (for casual), Gold Squadron for some fresh ideas (digging the draft concepts), TCX for the quick pace (but what is with the pandering at the end of the last episode - do they need some love???), and 186th for the witty banter and tactics. Then you have the super elite tournament guys but did enjoy the last Kessel Run's take on Epic. I have lately been moving away from the bragging and battle reports are sometimes losing the meat and potatoes...what were in the lists and how were they played. What did that mean? For example, Paul Heaver did a good job on Nova's last episode breaking down what it meant on what some of his opponents were doing. Thanks.

However, I think Scum and Villainy along with Nova Squadron hosts are probably the.....most....professional voices. I do like the good Kentucky boys on Stay on Target....

.....man....this is too hard...so many good Podcasts out right now. I quit. They are all the best. Chicken Out.

I've listen to most of them a few times (there's so many now, though, I can't really keep track) but the only one I consistently go back to is Shuttle Tydirium. Their show has enough variety in both subject matter and opinions of hosts to keep me interested.

The Shuttle Tydirium podcast, these guys just click with everything I play the game for there opinions on how tournament and the meta vs playing casual is 100% in line with how I feel. Love these guys

The Shuttle Tydirium. I enjoy the content and banter, just a bunch of guys talking about our game.

Thank you guys all, I have been listening to all the feedback. So far I have:

1. TCX: Nice and quick, good for me

2. Scum and villainy: Because I play this faction most

3. Mynock: Overall very popular

4. Shuttle Tydirium: Casual, I play casual mostly.

Nova isn't on there, not because it is bad, but because it just is too long for me. The others you guys are suggesting I will try out eventually.

My favorite is Nova by far.

Scum and Villany and Mynock are pretty good. I have listened to a few others on occasion, but these 3 are the only regulars.
