looking for opinions on what you guys think are the best squads are from each faction.
best squads?
Since FAQ2 there are no best squads. Let's be thankful for that.
I'm looking for opinions,
they can't all be equal in all ways
meh, post what you wanna play and you will get opinions. There really is no such thing as best. so many options.
My opinion is there isn't really a best squad right now.
The strongest atm I would say have Zillo and 2x elite stormtroopers, take your pick from there though
yeah don't be lazy come up with your own ideas
The best squad is one you like and know how to play. It is not the same best squad as some other player's.
I'm looking for opinions
* Empire is the cheapest entry in competitive lists
* Trooper lists work for both rebel and empire, but not for mercenaries (currently)
* Rebels will get a boost via the new Skismish mission (more cheap high pierce on unique figures)
* You need to practice with a list (IMHO more than in in X-Wing) to get a feel for how it's dynamics work against different lists.
* Currently Skirmish has a very wide skill range. Even if you can't invest time and money, you'll still see success if you are motivated and persistent.
* There are no real best lists, since missions have so a large impact on list performance. Starting with a trooper list will bring you very far currently.

...um...I think he said "the best squads from each faction"...oh wait, this was sarcastic. lol
Seriously though, the meta is wide open right now for IA Skirmish, which is AWESOME! Compare this to last year's meta which was dominated by 4x4 and Rebel Blast. Man, I can't wait to see what happens at GenCon!
Jacenat's post above is golden. If you're not sure where to start, then a trooper-centric list is a good start. The most important thing is to play and test and see what you prefer.
I guess I should have said good squads instead of best.
some of the comments made, when I'm asking opinions are just rude.
not the forum experience I'm use to.

You met with rudeness due to the laziness of your question.
It's like showing up on a DJ forum and asking what songs you should be playing.
Realistically there just isn't enough info or enough high end competitive matches being played to know whats "best".
There are popular lists, that tend to do well because they are popular. Generally, each local area will be different. In my experience, each area has a handful of stronger players that tend to stick to their favorite lists, thus those lists and players are the best in that region.
from what I've seen in from various tournament reports is that it varies greatly between regions.
And now that a new wave has been released only a few weeks ago, there's even less data on the "current" best lists.
Generally, trooper lists still do well.
2x Elite Stormies (sometimes both with Cross Training) make a good solid base for any imperial list.
More experienced players can do some great things with Bantha lists.
And generally, the standard Luke, Leia combo still works petty well, though you don't see as many Rebel lists winning as the Imperial and Scum.
Bottom line is: There is no best squads. Everyone does things differently, and that's a great thing for this game.

okay.......then.......your wrong and........yer-a-dik.
how is asking opinions of others, being lazy?
just wanted to see what other people thought................
but I see now that some of you have very little thoughts at all.........

I'd agree there's no single "best squad" like there was a year ago, but there are definetly squad archetypes that do better than others.
Locally, the consensus seems to be that the better archetypes are variations of:
Imperial Troopers (2x eStormtroopers, 2-3 rOfficers, season to taste with rRoyal Guards, eSnowtroopers and/or Heavy Stormtroopers)
Blazing Troopers (variant of the above with Blaise and Cross Dressing)
Wookie Points Denial (Gideon w/Mission, Threepio, 2-3x rWookies, 1-2 eSabs)
Bantha Stroll (a Bantha or two with Beast Tamer and Devious Scheme, borrowed Gideon, usually eTuskens to double down on Jundland and Brawler cards, Hired Gun padding and season to taste)
Beast Machines (variant of the above with more emphasis on HK Droids)
You can still get fairly good results with Twins (Luke + Leia, usually with Reb Troopers and/or eSaboteurs) and Rebel Trooper lists, but IMO those are more of a "Tier 1,5".
This does not mean anything else you build will be rubbish. The gaps in power/utility between list variants are not vast*, you can play different stuff and still win, especially if you're an experienced player that knows attack/defence math, proper board positioning, the importance of board control, activation and attack priorities and basic command card strategies. I'd just call the above combinations more stable and consistent.
*Except maybe for Mercs, but not really as a power level issue, it's just that they lack the wide array of choices that Imps and Rebs have. As they stand right now, they're not really a faction, more like a catch-all bin of oddball stuff that has some very good pieces with little to no synergies. The Bantha is good since it happens to stomp Troopers flat and can seriously maul middleweight uniques, but I find it frustrating trying to scrape together a consistent list around it.
I'd encourage you to experiment. A good place to start would be:
Imperials: 2x eStormtroopers and Rule by Fear
Rebs: Gideon, Diplomatic Mission, Threepio and 1-2 groups out of: eSabs, eRebel Troopers, eEcho Troopers, rWookies
Mercs: Temporarily Allied Gideon and Threepio, Devious Scheme.
Those are the real faction staples (or borrowed staples in the case of Mercs) that show up in every single consistently winning list. After you include those, go crazy with whatever you like the sound of. Who knows, you might come up with a new archetype for your local meta. I sure was surprised at how adding Blaise and Cross Dressing improved on my usual Imp Trooper list when I first experimented with it.
If you are really really unsure on where to start, I'd second the thought of a Trooper list. Not because it's necessarily better than the other archetypes, but because it will teach you a lot about board positioning and line of sight, and (especially in an Imp version) has tremendous stability and redundancy built in and is slightly more forgiving in the hands of a new player.
Edited by Don_SilvarroBantha Rider (with Beast Tamer) seems like it's worth well more than 9/10 points.
Bossk is well worth more than 8 points/9 if you put him into an imperial list.
Gideon and C-3PO, always worth the 5/6 points.
Greedo is worth more than 4 points.
The Elite Rebel Trooper double action to move and focus ability is great.
Elite Rebel Saboteurs are powerhouses.
Hired Guns (with Last Resort) can usually take out 2/2.5 points of damage with them when they die, so you tend to break even with them automatically.
You can just stack a bunch of value pieces together with some force multiplier units like elite officers or Gideon & C-3PO. Bossk and Greedo are already worth more than their point values, you stack focus onto them from Gideon & C-3PO and they get NUTS.
There are also other ways to play. Vader for example isn't really worth 18 points, but if you use him with a bunch of elite officers you can leverage his curb stomp dice more than his single activation would normally allow you. Not necessarily the best, but playable.
