Cloak action is nasty

By JimbonX, in X-Wing

Man Cloak is awesome. I understand why Whisper is so popular. Add 2 green dice and boost or barrel roll on 2. Awesome

I wish T-65/B-Wing and Starviper, could do something similar. A s-lock action where you lock wings and use primary attack as green dice (3 dice instead of 2) and open the wings up to make a boost, barrel roll or T-loop on speed 1 or 2, before revealing the maneuver.

Anyway. Cloak is so nice that I might buy another Phantom so can fly with 2 Phantoms.

The starviper can do something similar, with the Cloaking Device illicit upgrade...

Actually Starviper can do that with illicit Cloaking Device upgrade.

Yes Jimbon, yes it is.

I hope you're using the revised version of the Cloak rules though.

One StarViper can cloak, at least. Provided you give it the Virago title.

only problem with cloak viper (apart from the EXTRA inflated cost) is that scum doesn't get ADVANCED cloaking

just your basic, everyday cloaking :( (that likes to **** you over from time to time)

But you can use S.P. Accelerator. 2 points to get free evade after cloaked or decloaked. That's is good too.

eh...you're gambling four points on a random chance of failure when you could just take thrusters on the viper

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird when a Scum ship with Cloaking Device cloaks on a first turn when there's no chance of combat happening? I get you get the benefit of decloaking and doing some crazy repositioning at the start of the next round, but you also risk losing the device before you've benefited from the extra agility.

honestly, I think it's crazier when you cloak when there's a chance of combat happening (though not necessarily on the first turn)

you really have to be a HWK with no TLT in order to think that an extra green die is worth not being able to fire back

or you have to be matched against Dengaroo and in Dengar's arc :P

You're gambling 5 points if you aren't filling the System slot.

I usually run it on 4-LOM with sp accelerator for turns when he can't shoot and others can. Free evade + 2 greens is WAY better than 1 dice + evade/focus. Put that with the mist hunter title and it gains some interesting dodging capabilities.

Guri loves cloaking device--especially in a mindlink squad. She doesn't have to choose between focus and cloakus. At range 3 she's got 6 greens, autothrusters, and focus. Then she skips gleefully into range 1 and starts clobbering folks.

The only scum ship that really wants cloak is Palob :)

Actually, any of the protectorate fighters would benefit from it.

If they had illicit, which they don't because stupid honor.

Still, old teroch with cloak :D .

I'm going to second the reminder to double check which version of the Cloaking rules you are using.

When you got to wait around to see what lower PS ships were doing before deciding where, and even if, you wanted to Decloak it was really the bomb especially if attacking would let you cloak again for free. Then the revision came which requires you to decloak at the start of the activation phase before you know where anyone is going to be; there are some limited advantages to this but generally is much less favorable.

Cloak is pretty sweet, but decloaking is where it's at my friend. ACD for the win.

It's even more fun on a HWK. BlockHWK FTW!

I am a fan of Echo.

Advanced Cloaking Device.

Fire-Control System.

Recon Specialist.

Veteran Instincts.

The decloaking at odd angels combined with a pilot skill of 8 and gaining a fee Target lock makes him pretty tough. The 2 focus allows him to use one to attack and one to defend.
