Wave 3 and 4 Shipping Now!

By Caldias, in Star Wars: Armada

The Canadian Nationals are going to be bonkers with wave 3 and 4 legal and the meta still in flux

Did FFG update their "legal for tournaments" list yet? This aint the old west anymore the "legal if it's released" rule does not exist anymore.

Legal 11 days after release for north american tournaments. Distributor rules.

(Well its something like 11 days)

In any case, we should be pretty much right in that window. The new waves should hit stores here in Mid-August at the latest meaning there will be 2 or 3 weeks between the waves hitting and nationals. The meta will be FAR from settled by then. It will be like the wild west baby!

That makes it really interesting (as well as November Worlds). Is it in Toronto? (An offtopic, but I'm curious. How did Toronto Regional go?)

Yes it is in Toronto.

Toronto regionals went well enough, but not for me. I sucked. (not to take anything away from my opponents)

I feel I played so poorly I thoroughly deserved to lose the 2 games I lost, and a little bad luck made me win the one game I won by a much smaller margin than I could have.

My very first game I almost tabled my opponent (he had 5 squads and a TRC corvette left and I had only lost 1 ISD) and then my other ISD that would have comfortably gotten out of TRC range and out of the uncontrolled squadrons (4 As 1 YT2400) at speed 1 took a last shot from a soon to be vaporized Salvation and drew the much feared Comms Noise. My now speed zero ISD spent 2 turns getting pounded and died before the turn I had another Nav dial plotted and my 3 desperate raiders fell just short of catching the last corvette before the game ended. (6-4 win)

My second game I deployed well and started off so well even my opponent was sure I was going to table him, then I inexplicably (still no idea how/why/wtf I was thinking) activated mottis raider and plunked him in front of one of my ISDs, so instead of having 2 ISD front arcs lined up to shred his 3 vader VSDs 1 at a time as they strolled into me I had a lone ISD for way too long and it got plinked to death. Naturally both ISDs got killed (plus 2 raiders) and I only took 2/3 VSDs thanks to objective I only lost 7-3. It didn't help that I kept forgetting to flip and use my dials, it cost me a crucial engineering command and an extra die in a CF that might have denied a VSD an entire round of shooting (me beating myself again).

Third game my opponent outplayed me and by that point I was barely thinking, flew a raider off the edge and again deserved the loss. (7-3)

I should have used my bye. lol. I will do better at nationals, mostly because how the hell could I play any worse????

Hate those days where your body shows up to compete but your brain seems to have been left behind. Always the next tournament though!

Everyone's regionals were Weeks ago!

We are the last regionals in the World after all :D

Toronto Regionals was won by a DeMSU fleet (2 GSD, 3 Raiders, no squadrons).

I just got a compulsive urge to update a spreadsheet.

The guy that won is a great competitor and a really cool guy. The Toronto scene is pretty supportive and transparent, good competitors that get a lot of games in and are competitive without being jerks. Hopefully someday I can build a local scene in my city something like it...

I was at the Toronto regionals and had a great time. Well run and very good competitors. The majority of builds had nearly a full load of squadrons, with a small chunk of squadron-less builds. Lots of Rieekan Aces builds.

Thanks for the kind words!

So basically the extended "on the boat" status for wave 3 was a sham. It's been sitting at FFG for weeks. The short on the boat status for wave 4 was in actuallity the real time span for that status.

If I had to guess, I would say that Wave 4 production went better than expected and when they realized that the shipping to distributors phase was going to be only a 2.5 weeks appart for the 2 waves they decided to hold on to wave 3 so they could ship them out to distributors together and save some money and logistics headaches.

That was my assumption weeks ago. So many people were mad that FFG had to pull an audible.
Indeed, and I care about zero percent. I'm just happy as a pig in excrement that wave 4 is coming so fast! I am literally going to save for the next 3 or 4 weeks it takes these to get into Canada and then go bonkers buying.
Good! I am happy becuase I can do the TIE Fighter video now. . . Just got to find a way to balance it out. . .

We are ahead of schedule now which makes up for the 4 months we had to wait for wave 1 so I am happy with that. The data is balancing out.

I am also a huge fan of the TIE-Fighter short. Here was my take on an Armada conversion.http://kdyards.com/expansions.view.php?id=1323

I haven't had much chance to playtest them yet, but you are welcome to give them a once over. Enjoy.

I went through the short several times for just the joy of it and my mind does what it does and mentally compared it to the cards you created. Others can weigh in here as well but let's go through them.

Ada, from where you get her ability, she is only really attacking a single squadron. I think it would be better for her to increase the damage each Hit does to a squadron by 1.

Neel and Rosh are good.

I would personally change ge Gaunt to the effect of the Liberty title. All he does as a Commander is replaces an upgrade card on all ships which no Commander does as fast as I can tell. The closest is Madine with his Nav Team Ability.

Exterminator for 8 is fine and can activate 7 TIE Fighters or Interceptors.

Inhibitor is ok but all they really did was turn on the Target Scramblers against the single squadron.

Violator. . . God's. . . The raw power to strip side shields at Red range, to push through free crits at Red range. If you used the new Fire Control Teams to get 2 crits you could see just some really silly combinations there. 9 seems so cheap for that ability. . . Needs testing I think.

Spot on analysis I think.

Violator ... no ... just no ... and I tend to almost always play Imperial.

I have raised Violator's point cost to 18 until I can playtest.

A good stop gap for now but I dont know. . . the ability to have APT's at long range with screed makes the cheaper ISD 1 AMAZING!

I agree, Crazy Crazy.

Fundamentally changing a Red Upgrade into a Black Upgrade and Maintaining the range... I don't know if that can be fundamentally balanced...

or wether its just pointed at "Tax me for doing it, I don't care."

Welp. There goes more money.

Welp. There goes more money.

Well, it was just sitting there gathering dust anyway.

As an armada game, the tie fighter short is using Opening Salvo as its objective, Imps adding black dies.

I have contemplated Opening Salvo with Screed and black crits. There are a few problems I found in development. Screed prefers to go first. The ships wanting to be in the list are VSD-1s and GSDs. This means most openents want to and can outrun the list. Opening Salvo is one of those objectives players tend to avoid like the plague. My other two obj. tend be Hyperspace Assault and supp. positions. I feel supp. position tends to be picked and is the weakest obj. of the list. I kinda hope CC brings a blue obj. better suited for this type of list.

Dude, Toronto is in Canada. Of course they're competitive without being jerks. It's in their DNA.

Dude, it's Toronto :P

As a western Canadian it's our moral responsibility to act in harmony with our Torontonian neighbors to make them feel welcome :P (I kid, and naturally, I apologize.)

I love you.

Stores in the Portland Vancouver area are stated August 11th for release.

On topic, I called two local stores in the past 2 days about release dates and neither of them could give me a solid answer. It feels a bit nebulous which is a little strange, but the 11th-12th sounds about right as I heard that was our common restock day. I think the Imperial vet release from not long ago was the next day but that's just hearsay. Anyone else got word on that from up here?

Hoping that's the case as I have a tournament on the 13th and I'd love to get the new goodies in before then (standard summer one, so no 11 day waiting period).
