The expansion we've been looking for...

By shmitty, in Star Wars: Armada

I've been writing some about the Corellian Conflict campaign over on my blog,

First up was a post about the new spoiled objectives. LINK

Today I added a post about what I think this expansion means for Armada in the big picture. LINK

I'm plannig to add another post about my guesses on the campaign itself later this week.

Next week is GenCon. I will be coming back with copies of the Wave 3 & 4 ships and hopefully an interview or two to add to the blog.

Waiting for the next reads! Always cool to hear your thoughts.

I'm looking forward to reading your posts.

I'm excited about the idea of campaign sets for Armada. I've been feeling like they've topped out on the ships to bring to the game, and the campaign sets seem like a really great solution.

As always a good read schmitty. Feel like you nailed it.

Jamming Barrier: would not this be a good objective for a fleet that's comprised of lots of squads and light ships? Like a rebel Neb/MC30/3xGR-75+squads list? Those kinds of fleets do not have a really good yellow objective ATM.

No need for an interview with anyone when you win the thing.

Though if Q is going I think he might have a thing or two to say about that.

Edit: Because I am not going to GenCon, I am officially designating you in charge of getting a "Breakfast Squadron" going on Day 1.

Important considerations for selecting a venue:

- Breakfast

- Inexpensive

- Room for X-Wing players to crash breakfast because an Armada player invited them along.

- Everyone is invited.

That sounds worth trying. I tend to play my lighter fleets at high speed, so I wonder how long it would be useful.

I'm sure if Q is there I think he will be the heavy favorite just based on past results. It's almost too bad he's such a nice guy as it makes it tough to root against him. I do hope we get a match though as it would likely be a really good game.

I'm hoping for interviews with the devs, especially for Corellina Conflict.

I'd thought about breakfast, but with prelims spread over 2 days I wasn't sure it would catch everyone. Maybe a dinner after the finals on Saturday?

Or two breakfast Squadrons?

Waffle Wing Report In.

Pancake Flight you are green for your attack run.

A dinner meet Thursday might be the best way to bring everyone together from both days. That would be fun. For breakfast, I'd be much more inclined on the day that I'm not playing.

I'm also really looking forward to meeting the regular forum participants who will be in attendance.

My first thought was also to use a carrier fleet where you're trying to do more damage with squads than ships. Theoretically, it makes sense, but it does seem like it may be difficult to pull off in practice.

Another thought is that this might be a good objective for a close/medium range fleet (such as CR90B/Torpedo Frigate/Raider swarms) to protect against long range threats. You could try to set it up so that you would cross the barrier at medium range....or better yet, so that the opponent would cross the barrier first at medium/close.

Or you can set it up to make one flank less tempting, especially for a VSD fleet, or any other fleet you intend to fly slow.

One thing I do know is that having more objectives is going to really stir things up. I imagine playing first player will be a bit harder because it will be a challenge to practice against so many options. And a campaign is definitely what I've been wanting for Armada. I'm really looking forward to it! :D

Hmm...Jamming Barrier could also help against a Rhymer ball.... It wouldn't be the main reason I add the objective, but it would be interesting if it comes up.

its exciting times to play aramda

Any idea what expansions one would need to play the full campaign?

I don't think there's going to be a "You need xx expansion" for the full campaign, other than to be able to play 400pt Games anyway...

To get the most form it, you're going to want Imperial + Rebel fighters packs, so you have the fighter bases to replace with the Unique ones, but beyond that - "What you have, if you're playing normal games." is probably going to be good enough :)

If there is anything required I'm hoping it's the flotillas. Seems like the perfect setting for some convoy style games.
