Is dual Firespray (Scum or Imperial) feasible at all?

By rr2r, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello!

With my latest purchase of a second copy of Slave I box, I departed on a journey to find a feasible, and if I dare to say, hopefully even good dual Firespray list. I have an unexplainable soft spot for that ship, and even though it fails me often, I keep on flying it when I don't feel like trying anything new and shiny (good). My usual go-to was HLC Krassis Trelix, with various other ships thrown in (Phantom, TIEs, Vader, Juno), but I tried Fettigator and Kath as well.

I see some old posts about dual scum Firespray lists, as well as Kath+Bossk and Kath+Dengar ideas, but most seem dated so would not have access to all the current cards.

Is anyone out there who currently plays dual Firesprays perhaps, or at least experimented with some lists on paper? I am just interested in finding out what people think about such a squad. I know that a lot of people mention the upcoming Tailgunner card as a fix/must have for Firesprays, but I would think that even without that one some builds should be viable?

Thanks for any posts you wish to make!

A pair of connor nets might be nice for control. So Emon, Bombardier might be worth looking at. As well as Slave 1 and Andrasta titles for Extra munitions or multiple bombs.

Kath Scarlet - Push The Limit, K4 Security Droid, Connor Net, Slave 1, Extra Munitions - 50 Pts

Emon Azzamen - Bombardier, Engine Upgrade, Connor Net, Andrasta, Thermal Detonators, Ion Bombs - 50 Pts

So you should be able to Push The Limit with Kath to get focus and evade and use K4 security Droid to gain target lock, whilst running from your opponent and possibly dropping a connor net.

Emon Azzamen can drop a choice of bombs all orientated around some form of control either Ion Tokens or Stress.

The list I'm currently running:

Boba: VI,HLC,Engine, Glitterstim

Kath:Expert Handling, Engine,K4 Droid

Ideally Boba hunts aces and maybe gets stuck in the scrum, while Kath tries to get people to chase so she can do her thing.Being able to shift arcs and be semi unpredictable are key to getting the most out of your firesprays.Well that, and staying out of corners.I don't try to force the lead/lag situation, but your opponent will always be thinking about it. The only changes I'm really thinking about with this list is swapping Dengar for K4,and homing missiles/extra munitions for the HLC.

The thing about Firesprays is that they're a pretty solid Swiss Army Knife. They're decently good at everything, but not outstanding in one particular area. This puts them in a really odd spot. Dual Firesprays is going to be tough, but honestly I personally think that if you trick them out to be "anti-meta" they can be quite scary.

Kath Scarlet (Scum) (38)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Dengar (3)
Glitterstim (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Boba Fett (Scum) (39)
Veteran Instincts (1)
4-LOM (1)
Homing Missiles (5)
Glitterstim (2)
Extra Munitions (2)
Guidance Chips (0)
Slave I (0)
Total: 98
This is my current anti-meta list.
1. Going against Whisper? No problem, you have 98 points for initiative bid and Boba is Pilot Skill 10. Homing missles for those pesky Imperial Evade tokens and 4-Lom to lock the focus token down. All they have is Palp. Boba frequently hits 4.
2. Going against Defenders? No problem for the same reason as #1
3. Triple Imperial Aces? (Ex: Vader, Inquisitor, Soontir) Boba and Kath are both very scary on their own. The aces are very low hp and must avoid boba's token lockdown, while trying to avoid kath at the same time. This fight usually comes down to flying
...on the way to work, ill be back... haha

Thanks for all the info so far. I always have problems coming up with pilot combos that go beyond 3 cards. This is great :)

I love running two naked bounty hunter firesprays with the inquisitor carrying ptl, title, autothrusters, and proton rockets. The firesprays are big beefy blockers that don't need to turn around to keep you in arc.

@Xavi17

Do you find it worthwhile to equip a Seismic Charge on Fett (or Kath)? Or would you rather keep the initiative bid?

mine is very similar, I put adaptability on boba so both are iPS9.. swapped GS for ID and added some bombs

edit - and be patient and avoid auto thrusters if possible, puts a serious damper on homing missile

I was thinking of seismic charges. Honestly I think the initiative bid for Kath comes in much more handy.

Yes.

Absolutely, I plugged them in my blog last month as the winner of the Spanish Regionals took Scum Fett and Kath. :)

there are some cool scum list for twin fire spray now that the scum crew list is growing

I am going to absolutely try this once my purchase show us - Firesprays for the win :)

@rr2r

Dont worry, you'll be fine

Firesprays being swept under the rug actually helps you out. A lot of people dont know how to fly against them and you can take advantage of the opportunity. Im no seasoned player, in fact, i just got into x wings in April.

I absolutely love the Firespray and I took it to a tournament not too long ago here:

http://lists.starwarsclubhouse.com/get_tourney_details?tourney_id=1700

I ended up placing top 8, finishing in 6th place! Not too shabby for my first tournament and only playing the game for a month.

what helped me the most was the fact that i was the only firespray out there. A lot of the people here at this venue were veterans of the game, but I did catch quite a few people off guard because you simply dont see firesprays.

My Z-95s blocked really well, the Y-Wing was just consistant damage every turn. what came out to be deadly was having my Z's block ahead of Kath and then performing a hard 2/3 with Kath. Often times i lined up the rear arc at range 1. Thats 5 dice with Dengar's rerolls plus a focus token. Not many ships can walk away from that!

Practice and have fun! :)

I ran some VERY successful dual firespray builds back in the day for both factions. Scum was obviously better though.

They've gradually become weaker to run due to all the super aces and turrets around. Plus those 20 hit points at 2 agility can be a bit squishy. Not to mention all the ships that keep getting buffs or fixes besides the firespray makes it even tougher to just run the two of them.

My second Firespray came in the mail today. I am planning to repaint both, but of course will try playing them as soon as I can :) I am hoping that with some luck I will be able to get a decent record and some ideas to come back to this topic with.

If I were to run a dual 'spray list, I would go with Boba and Emon. Kath can hit hard, and tail gunner offers her a nice perk, but she doesn't really 'counter' any of the top meta lists out there. Emon does, however, and he can hit pretty much as hard as Kath if you build him right:

Boba w/ Veteran Instincts, Dengar, engine upgrade, seismic charge & glitterstim = 51

Emon w/ K4 droid, concussion missile, conner net, slave 1, extra munitions & guidance chips = 49

You don't need bombardier on Emon. His ability allows him to drop that conner net (actually 2 of 'em) anywhere you please as long as you are used to how his ability works. He's also tough enough to get off both concussion missiles before going down, and they inflict 4 damage basically every shot unless you are extremely unlucky (and even then it will be 3 hits).

Between the conner net and Boba's PS 10, you have the edge on imperial aces and even can give Dengar a really hard time...

Other than the crime of Boba not being in Slave I, I like that list a lot.

when I was looking through my package, I was actually genuinely surprised that there was another pilot card for Firespray besides Boba and Kath :P

Do you guys find that maneuvering two large ships on a board can be more challenging than using small ones, or a combination of one large ship with smaller escorts?

Not really ... only two ships makes it fairly easy. And the firespray has a fairly good dial for a big ship as long as you don't force yourself to take greens every turn (which is why dengar is way more awesome than K4)

New tail gunner card will go well on (scum) Kath. Might be trying to make too much out of an ability though. I'm not sure if it is something you should actively try to pull off all the time.

Tail gunner would be good on firesprays if they weren't in scum with so many other really good crew options.

I just thought of this,

Fearless KS + BF

99 points

PILOTS

Kath Scarlet (41)
Firespray-31 (38), Fearlessness (1), Tail Gunner (2)

Boba Fett (43)
Firespray-31 (39), Fearlessness (1), Dengar (3)

Black Sun Soldier (15)
Z-95 Headhunter (13), Feedback Array (2)

If you want to play with some of the new toys something like this could be fun. Charge in with Fet using EU if needed. I am sure the list isnt optimized but would be fun yo try out.

Firespray-31: · Boba Fett (39)

Fearlessness (1)

Autoblaster (5)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Tail Gunner (2)

Glitterstim (2)

Firespray-31: · Kath Scarlet (38)

Adaptability (Increase) (0)

Autoblaster (5)

Tail Gunner (2)

Glitterstim (2)

I'd like to try something dumb and aggro like

Mando Merc

> Fearlessness

> Autoblaster

> Cluster Missiles

> K4 Security Droid

> Feedback Array

> Guidance Chips
