Finally got to play my 5 TAP list, and I think it's a new favorite.

By joyrock, in X-Wing

5x TAP w/ title, guidance chips, and proton rockets.

An even 100 points with a huge alpha strike, great blocking potential, and enough durability to last quite awhile. Of course, I'm not great at the game, so my maneuvers left a lot to be desired, but still a ton of fun to fly.

Did you drop the prockets straight away or did you target lock up in the first round of shooting?

In both games I played, I ended up dropping rockets the first round without TL, but just from one ship.

It's actually a competitive list too.

I've been thinking of replacing one of the TAP's with a Scimitar Squadron bomber with TIE Shuttle, Fleet Officer, and Intel Agent.

This way you can see where they're going, boost/barrel roll accordingly, and still fire off your prockets with Fleet Officer focus.

This thread is dangerous... I suddenly have an urge to buy three more.

I actually like that idea a lot too, but for now I'm going to stick with one list and focus on my essentials. My last game I got a huge lead so was playing more loose with asteroid manoeuvering. I hit asteroids eight times, though still only took one damage. Gotta work on judging them lol

I actually bought 5 on launch with the intention of running this exact list for fun, but never actually got around to it. I'm almost tempted to take it with me tomorrow night, but I have nationals stuff coming up so I should probably play something vaguely along the lines of what I'm taking there (whatever that will be).

How about this? Should be easily as durable. at R3, Auto and TL into evade. Then R1 focus and pow!

All PS5

At 5 they should be great vs 3scout, and will be shooting at the same time as Manaroo. Or if you want, down to PS3 to block manaroo.

I only have one, just isn't enough. Ive only flown the Inquisistor 3-4 times. I just love my crackswarm.

is definitely my current favorite. I had thought about running five, but I think I would miss the Inquisitor too much.

Yea, I wish I could run that list. I'm pretty sure even I could win with it lol.

TAP?

Y'all need to ease up with the acronyms.

Hold on, I got it.

Yeah I flew mine for the first time last night, and I must say me likey!

I built two Empire lists and me and my roommate flew against seven TIE's using the HotAC AI (the point of the whole exercise was to practice using the AI) and we won, but it wasn't easy.

List was the Inquisitor TAP, plus Vader and Juno X1's with various lovely toys. Juno got smoked mid-game, Vader was down to 1 hull (but murdered the crap out of things), and my TAP lost a whole 1 shield while netting a few kills. It's a nimble little minx.

5-ship lists are so fun to fly. I just wish there was more competitive variety at this price point.

One thing is for sure, your procket tie fighters list is definitely better than 5x 20point PS1 Fang fighters. I was hoping the fang fighter would have a good build at 20 points for 5 ship goodness. Turns out it doesn't :(

I've flown the five TAP's with Adv. Homing Missiles and GC, it synergies better with the Title. Also is a lot of fun to kill ships while they still have their shields intact. :-)

Adv Homing Missiles synergizes better with the title, but it isn't nearly as threatening. Even with the target lock, most aces are going to laugh at it, while non-aces will usually be getting less damage than with Prockets.

I played against 4 Barons at my Regionals on the weekend, and it was hard going. The minute you'd land a bit of damage on one, he'd peel away and run. Meanwhile, the other three circle around and come in for strafing runs. Ended up being run in circles. Managed to kill one and get another down to a single hull before Cracken killed himself on debris (the good old roll a crit and draw double damage on a shieldless Z-95 trick) and robbed me of the action economy I needed to chase the others down.

It helped that my opponent knew exactly how to fly the list and make the most of its strengths. It was a good game.

Is the damage from the prockets really enough to offset the lack of autothrusters? I mean, a range-3 joust is going to (sans AT) see you lose at least one TAP before you even have a remote possibility of getting into procket range.

And even then - while it may work okay against some lists, it feels sort of like the type of thing that would be completely hosed against aces. Range-1 in that forward arc is just...that's a very, very tiny portion of the map that 15% of your lists cost is 'only usable' in.

Per the OP's OP, it's a nice alpha strike. 5 prockets firing is plenty o' dice, plus you have titles for survival, and a sexy dial. It's not insane, but it certainly can be fun as all get out.

Autothrusters isn't a bad option by any means, but I prefer the raw damage.

At range three, you aren't exactly a sitting duck - that's four dice and either a focus or an evade, and a good chance to close the next round.

And this list is fine against aces if you can get a single good prediction in. Against most aces lists, one good turn of shooting can be game ending if they don't get that action. They WILL get chewed up if you can't block, though.

I have seen four Barons with Crackshot, title, Prockets and Guidance joust a triple jumpmaster list.

They went from range 4 to range 1 and removed two jumps in that turn.

They lost a Baron in return.

Now I will admit that the red dice were a little hot (20 reds and something like 18 hits with guidance) but ****. The match was over. They just racked up and went again. Ha ha.

This thread is dangerous... I suddenly have an urge to buy three more.

I have 2.. I like the shuttle idea.... so I would need 2 more, I love the TAP....

OP do you work for FFG and this is a plot to get us to buy more TAP's??????

D*** YOU!!!!! Which Online store has the best deals at the moment.......

Edited as it looked like I was being a raging idiot with the auto **** for some words.... Starts with a D not an F.

I agree... this thread is a conspiracy plot started by FFG, and kept secret by the US government, to trick people into buy more TAPs to raise money to further their alien hiding agenda....

Might I suggest coolstuff games? They tend to be the cheapest and offer free shipping on orders over $100.

That's not hot dice, that's the power of a focus token + guidance chips. The odds of getting 18 or more hits out of 4 5-die procket attackers with guidance chips is ~68.3%. The odds of getting less than 16 hits is ~5.5%.
