Dash Rendar.......ignoring obstacles.....other ships ?

By Barry Harker, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello guys.

I'm sure this question has been asked before.

But,

Can Dash Rendar with the YT2400 card.

Ignore ships as well as debris clouds and asteroids.

For instance....overlapping or being able to complete a manoeuvre.

It says....

You may ignore obstacles during the activation phase and when performing actions.

Do obstacles include other ships ?

I'm asking as when one ship gets in the way of another.

It can't perform its actions.

But if ships are included as obstacle's.

That would mean Dash can still perform an action.

Even though he couldn't finish the manoeuvre.

In the main rule book.

In one of the paragraphs on page 14.

It mentions ships as obstacles.

So I'm just making sure what I can and can't do with Dash.

Thanks you.

All the best.

Barry.

Obstacles are defined as asteroids or debris fields (as per page 14 of the Rules Reference). Ships don't count as obstacles so Dash's ability doesn't trigger if you overlap another ship.

There is no reference to ship as obstacle anywhere in the Obstacle rule of page 14.

The only reference is IF you would over lap a ship during your maneuver and you must back track, you don't count the part of the maneuver that you did not use because of the overlap for potential obstacle.

If ships were considered obstacles, it would also come into play if Dash tried to HLC shoot a range 2-3 target with a ship in the way at range 1.

Ships are not obstacles - but they can obstruct enemy attacks with Tactical Jammers.

There is another exception here. In non-tournament play, players can use huge ships as a static obstacle. I suppose it's a floating derelict in that case.

The huge ship obstacle is not controlled by any player. It uses the rules for overlapping and obstructing described under the “Additional Huge Ship Rules” section of this rulebook. It does not move, and it cannot be attacked, damaged, or destroyed.

Yes, let's find all the edge case exceptions to the rule so OP has an easier time understanding the important rules! :D

Hey, it's one little (obscure) exception. But I think Barry got the answer he was needing by the time my post hit the thread. :)

It's like when someone asks about actions when you're stressed. There's always someone who's going to mention Tycho.

Well then, while we're at it...

Make sure you remember that Dash Rendar will ignore obstacles during the activation phase only. If he ends his activation overlapping an asteroid, he will not get to fire that round. Luckily for him, debris clouds don't have any effect during the combat phase so he can park on them all game long - which is why super-Dash lists often bring 3 large debris clouds as obstacles!
