Anybody had success playing imperial assault with their children? Obviously the game is far too complicated for younger players as is. Anyone had any thoughts on how to bring it down a few notches? My 4 yr old, while extremely smart for her age, asks me to play all the time and I'd love to play a simplified version with her.
Off the wall topic. Playing IA with kids.
People have posted similar questions before and some ideas are as follows:
1) No Command Cards
2) No point list, just play with 4-5 deployment cards
3) Ignore difficult terrain
4) Exchange strain for straight up damage
5) Ignore mission objectives
Keep it simple at it's best. Move figures, attack. First one to defeat the other's army wins.
But make sure she knows so she has an understanding that as she gets better, additional rules might get added.

Hoodie's response is right on the mark.
I started games like this when my daughter was about 6.
She caught on fast and it really helps them: developing math skills(dice) movement, decision making, concentration and focus, following rules, high level cognitive skills (planning ahead), social skills and best of all playing with Dad and his toys!
And, how could I forget, developing imagination!
