By Fringer, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am really excited to try this out...just installed it :)

You've got my interest.

Are there any way to use the generator on my smartphone?..

Are there any way to use the generator on my smartphone?..

Sure. Set up a VM on Amazon Web Services that is running Windows, and then connect to that instance remotely using an RDP client from your smartphone.

Easy-peasy. ;)

Very interesting, however besides the guide that tells me how to get my characters on there, there is no other instructions of help area that talks us through how to use said application.

I just put my force sensitive character on there, and although he has the seek basic power only, the dice pool section states that I have enhance and as such adds a force dice to all relevant dice pools.

So for now I will stick with a PDF of the character sheet, but I eagerly await and watch as this application improves.

I just noticed a problem with the SWCharGen 1.7.0 character sheets (not sure if this is your problem).

Datapad adds all talents, instead of just those purchased, due to changes in the XML since 1.6.

I will fix the bug.

Hey, lookit that, I'll check it out. I'm already a mostly paperless GM & player, but more tools are always welcome.

Confirmed: made a starter Droid Mechanic, and saw (to my surprise) that he had a Soak value of 8. He had Brawn 3 and Combat Armor (Soak 2), plus being a Droid, he should have had Soak 6. On the Datapad talent list he got 2 ranks of Enduring from Mechanic -- it seemed to count it twice? Talent tree only has 1 possible rank of Enduring, so not sure why it's being duplicated.

Droids start with an automatic rank in Enduring.

I know, which still means he should have had Soak 6. 3 (Brawn) + 2 (Armor) + 1 (Droid). He had not taken the rank in Enduring from the Mechanic tree.

Ah, I read that wrong.

Run with it, see if your GM notices!!* "Bank error in your favor: collect 200 credits." ;)

*Don't do this.

Yup, not good at all.

I have an update which will fix this, just waiting for it to pass review by Apple.

Any other problems I will look at after that.

Awesome.

App looks really nice, by the way. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

Version 1.0.10 is now available from the App store. Here is a list of changes:

- The setting "Locked" (which allows you to hide XP and cash) and "Hide Talents" (which allows you to hide talents that are "implemented") are now global, and work correctly when changing characters/accounts.

- Added version information to setup dialog.
- Added SWCharGen 1.7.0 data.
- Fixed bug: When reading SWCharGen 1.7.0 character sheets, Datapad was loading all Talents instead of just those purchased.

How would we go about adding the descriptions to the datapad? My generator has all of the relevant fluff info filled in as well as talent text and it would be nice if the datapad would show that, how do I edit that in?

Is this Apple only? Because I would really like to use this without dropping several hundred that I don't have on an iPad. It's cool if it won't, dunno how complicated it is to make something that would run on other platforms, but thought I would at least mention.

It is iPad-only. You can’t even get it on your iPhone.

But used iPads are pretty cheap, if you want to go that direction. And still cheaper and more portable than a desktop or laptop computer that can run OggDude’s Character Generator under Windows.

A refurbished iPad is at least $229. A starting laptop from Dell (and probably other vendors) is around $179.

If just wanting to read something, the iPad is decent. But if you're doing other stuff, the laptop is better as the keyboard isn't getting in the way of the screen :)

Can we get an android version?

1. Go to the Data Editor, select your Data Set and export it. This will produce a .ZIP file.

2. Login to the fringer.space web-site and upload the .ZIP to the Data Set section.

3. Go to your iPad and click "Sync with Server Now".

You should now see all your customisations in Datapad.

Can we get an android version?

Would love to do it, but I just don't have the time at the moment.

(I also don't have an Android device).

Time I definitely understand, but there are virtual host programs for building android apps for various devices that get around the issue of having the hardware :)

Historically the issue has been that iOS and Android devices do not use the same development systems, so it's basically writing two applications rather than being able to write one that works on both.

Hopefully that will improve over time !

Actually, there were development platforms that allowed one to deploy to both systems. Apple changed their TOS for the app store and put in checks so that you had to use their development tools, which took that away.
