Ion Cannons

By Vann Harl, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello folks

might need someone to draw me pictures to explain this newbie question:

"if this attack hits, the defender suffers one damage and receives 1 ion token."

So, if I "hit" the enemy ship, does the Ion token and damage apply? That's the way I read it, Even if the enemy ship has shields.

But if the enemy ship has force shields do they shields negate the damage and the Ion effects?

Cheers

"force shields" do not exist in this game.

The sequence is thus:

Roll 3 red dice, modifying as normal. The defender rolls whatever their agility value is in green dice, plus one if there is an obstruction in the line of the shot, modifying as normal. After this, compare the results. If there are any un-cancelled [boom] or [kaboom] symbols left on the red dice, the attack has HIT. THis is the definition of Hit in this game - the symbols on the red dice are not referred to in the rules as hits and crits, but purely as symbols.

If the attack has HIT, cancel all the dice (ignore all of the dice results entirely) and deal 1 damage and 1 ion token to the target. If the target has any shield tokens remaining, it loses one, else, deal it a damage card. THe ion token is applied either way.

Any time a ship suffers DAMAGE it must remove shield tokens before dealing cards. ONLY if an effect directly tells you to deal cards would shields be ignored.

Being "hit" is not the same as taking damage cards.

Great, thanks thespaceinvader, that's perfect. oops Force shields meant "shield tokens"

You should take a look at the timing diagram in the new FAQ, it might clear up everything regarding hit/not hit, suffering damage, damage cards and shield tokens for you.

Specifically these 2 steps:
